Thanks. The signs are going to look so good. Hopefully, I'll have the "Test Mule" finished today and I can post some pictures. I've been trying different techniques for painting the letters, the picture doesn't do it justice.

This looked great before the paint. Even better now. Great work and keep it up!

You never have to ask if someone rides a single speed, they'll tell you within the first 30 seconds of meeting them.......

This is all too true. When you drop gears I think your ego inflates proportionally by a value equal to the gears lost. I am working on funding for a scientific study to back my hypothesis, but until then it is merely conjecture.

I'm trying to figure out how to enforce this new "Ban all SS'rs"

It wouldn't be effective enough to just mandate that all MTB's have a derailleur. there would have to be some type of analytics software that show recent movement, then uploaded to the authorities?

Of course the fines levied should be severe enough as well.

    A lot to ponder here

I didnt know the SS hate was so strong here. Should just combine that with ebike hate. I am going to start riding an E-SS now.

What I got out of that story is that single speeders are extremely damaging to trails.

    🙂

I see what you did there. I guess I should stop pedaling and just get an ebike...

So is it time to have a discussion about banning single speeds?  🙂

This would be a very sad day indeed...

That'd be the best day of my life

What do you have against single speeds man? Best day of your life is quite the assertion and I sense some deeply set hatred is present. Were you run over by a single speeder as a child? Maybe your family dog?

If they don’t hurt my access to trails, I’ve got no real issue with them.

I think this was really what I was getting to. I now believe they SHOULD have equal access. I think they are a great addition to the bike world for the right uses. Prior to yesterdays ride I did not fully understand and thought they would just aid in the destruction of trails.

Also, I have an old friend who is just getting back into biking and instead of getting a real bike he purchased an E-bike....I keep blowing him off to ride with him because I feel ashamed to be riding near him.

Does this make me a bad person?

    Following up on this one:

I went out on a ride with my friend and his new E-bike. I have changed my opinion of them drastically after doing so. I still have no desire to ride one, but it was great being able to get on a bike with my friend who has not ridden in 5-10 years and he was easily able to pace with me for 15ish miles. I rode my single speed at Brushy and never felt like he could easily just speed off without me. I also noticed that I spun out more on hills than he ever did (not sure what mode he was riding in). The e-bike delivered very steady/even reliable power that never broke loose once on the dry dusty scree out there while I spun out at least once every steep climb. I can easily say he did less damage to the trail than I did yesterday. I can also say skill and fitness is worth far more than that electric motor, but it did make things interesting and really leveled the playing field. I can not speak to the legality of it, but I no longer think they do any more damage to a trail than we do. I can also happily say that I would love to go on a ride with him again. Is it a bit of a cop out for someone who just does not want to work to get in great shape? Yeah, but my friend has no where near the time I do to ride and it was freaking fun to both get out and push our pace for a really solid 15 miles and both be whooped by the end of it. That was much more enjoyable for both of us than what could have been 3 grueling miles of suffering for him and the equivalent amount of time waiting around for me.

I think just like One Wheels this needs to be addressed at an official capacity by the state/city, but I for one am on board. It gets more people into a sport I love and ultimately grows it and hopefully the volume of available trails with it.

I will also add that while we were riding he was discussing getting a second non motorized bike as well which tells me that the e-bike is really just a gateway drug.

Juniper ridge trail was always in need of a widening. Why don't one of you guys with a saw take care of all those trees that have been smashed so often by bars that the bark is ripped off? Then at least it would be rideable.

This type a talk is frowned upon in these here parts boy. Best you get used to them tree gates or else we will have sic Bartman on you.

  9. I have no intention of ever riding an E-Bike, but I hope if I ever have to ride one due to some medical condition that people are nicer to me when I am on one than I am to E-MTBers right now.

    Glass houses blah blah....

  10. I have ridden out at spider a half dozen times and the most recent one I decided to take my Honzo ST out there just to try it. Man was it freaking fun and now I will be hard pressed to decide on a bike to bring out there. Ill be honest and say I was a bit nervous about riding the double black on it, but it rode just fine. It was certainly very different than my squish, but I would almost venture to say that the blue was even more fun on the HT. I do not think there is a perfect bike for that place now. Does FS make the chunk a bit easier? Maybe, but it is def not going to make it any more or less fun.

Checking sealant levels and refilling every other month, the mess (no one here can say they've never spilled a drop of sealant), the "one more thing I have to buy and keep on hand". Sure, it's not that hard to do any of this, but that's the case with most modern conveniences. We all lived with paper maps before GPS. We all lived with tubes before tubeless.

I bought one of these and have had 0 spills since. Its awesome for initial fillings and refills. Just take your core out and fill with desired amount.

Mine is spinny compared to most of the ASSes I know. This topic came up a few times previously and supposedly some are riding Lake Georgetown, 4C, etc on 34x17 and such nonsense.

I've ridden everything with 32/20 previously and anything I had to walk probably would have also been walked if I had a big ol cassette on there. I mostly ride SATN and Walnut on occasion. Might go to 32x21 if I plan to ride something new/ techy and if I don't have to try to keep up with the monsters who push big gears.

38x16 on my CX bike with 35mm tires for roads and gravel races. Singletrack quickly overwhelms that bike but it seems some trails too.

Everytime I ride BCGB, it's with a bunch of ridiculously skilled people who I hold back or I get lost/ injured riding on my own.

I need bigger legs apparently, though the way I ride I would rather spin the gear I can climb everything on (with difficulty). I still ride as fast as the geared riders I go with so it works, but I would like to be able to do more ASS rides too at some point.

34x20 on a 29x2.25 tire at the moment. I tried a few different gear combos and that one is just spinny enough to make it through chunk, climb long hills, and not get totally left behind when trying to keep up with a group of gearies. It also allows the shortest possible chainstay length in the slots on my frame, which I like because wheelies.

Always impressed by people who can turn that big a ratio. Do you ride greenbelt or 4c much with that ratio? I like my 32x22 for most of the tech I ride and cannot fathom anything higher.
