1. Been scouring through all of these comments and searching online all day yesterday because I have the time.
I think the Smith Venture is going to be the winner. At $110 its at a great price point for a MIPS helmet, its lightweight, has 20 vents, and gets decent reviews. Thanks everyone for your input.

I’ve been wearing the Smith Venture for three months now and I really like it. Much cooler than my Troy Lee A1 I had before it and fits glasses much better as well (probably to be expected from a goggle/sunglasses company).

2. After spending several years in Lubbock, I have to say that my perspective of dust storms must not be the same as most. I was expecting something more like this:

I grew up in Plainview, just north of Lubbock. This dust storm wasn’t shit. It didn’t even rain mud.

3. I really wanted that bike when I was 12! If it was priced $150 I’d snatch it up for something to tinker with

1999 Gary Fisher Joshua was my first Mountain bike. I believe there’s a high school kid in town who is riding it.

4. First time this has happened to me
Noticed a flat yesterday after putting this bike up last Saturday. Almost every spoke is leaking on the front wheel.

Best plan of action? I’ve never had to deal with this before.

ETA: could it be as simple as a poor tubeless tape job that’s took 200 miles of riding to really uncover? Or is this a bigger problem? Would I start with re-tapeing?

I think your wheel has rabies.

I wonder if the heat has something to do with the tape degrading.

5. Mine seems to catch a lot of loose, flying rocks. I can often hear them bouncing off. Especially with new tires. After catching a flying rock to the top lip I think it’s worth it to have one even with very rarely riding through mud and water.

6. I got in a good couple hours this morning. Trails are primo. I pedalled from the house before 7 and was on singletrack before 7:30. I was surprised how many folks were out that early but it was way better than the other times I have gone.Get you some!

I was on the trails between 7:30 and 9:30 and it was great.

7. I have a GG Smash as well, And I’ve walked it on this feature to test and it’s just too long. I haven’t had a chance yet, but I’d guess my hardtail or old Felt full suspension could make it.....with the right rider.

The Smash is a long bike. Mine drags on the ground sometimes when I put it on the lift at Spider Mtn.

8. I rode this trail 3X last week and put it back each time. The trail is now flush with neighbor hood walkers and dogs with legs too short to get over these.

I call BS on that. My corgi can clear that log easily.

9. Whats the weight on the Fairdale Macaroni? My almost 6yo needs a bigger bike. Shes 3"10  and 46lbs. Her current ride is a 14" Royalbaby Stargirl and she zips around on it. I like that Macaroni color though because my younger ones can abuse it as well when they're ready (3yo, 1yo)

Top Considerations:
Specialized Riprock 20 (coaster)
Fairdale Macaroni
Craigslist deal
Commencal Meta HT 20+ (lulzzz)

I haven’t weighed the Macaroni. I would say it’s equivalent to a smaller, solid BMX bike. A lot of the parts are from a Sunday BMX.

10. Anyone running bigger tires on a 29er? I’ve been running 2.3s on 30mm rims but am curious about going up to a 2.5 or 2.6. I’m considering an Assegai up front to replace a worn DHF but don’t want to add too much rotational weight.

11. 2nd new bike day in a month and it feels great.
I sold the big Norco 29er enduro sled because honestly it was way too much bike for what I like doing and I’ve decided I hate 29ers. That’s the 2nd time I’ve tried to force the 29er issue, and I’ll never do it again.
Took all the funds and sunk it into the purple Salsa Fargo and was shopping for a do it all 27.5 hardtail. Landed on a Diamondback Sync’r Carbon. Honestly, at full price it was a great build, but when it went 30% off it was a no brainer.
For the record number 2 on my list was the Nukeproof Scout 275.

I think I need some new tires. It’s hard to hell how much they’ve worn until you see some brand new Minions.

12. How much more difficult is Double Down vs 1/4 Notch? Nothing on 1/4 scares me or anything and I want to try DD but I also don't want to end up walking 70% of it because I suck.

I think of it as two sections. The first starting at the end of 1/4 Notch and ending at the bailout near the bridge. I would start with that section first. Starting at the end of 1/4 Notch that first section of DD is mostly downhill. There are features you will walk but you’ll eventually find the right lines and conquer them one at a time. It’s a great trail for progression.

13. Big thanks to HoneyBadger and his continued work on Peddler's Pass.  Rode it for the first time in a couple weeks and it is just getting faster!  Primo conditions yesterday.
I was pretty excited yesterday to take the top spot on Strava for Peddler's for my weight class.  Finally broke 17 minutes.  Felt like I was flying.   Weight loss helps!  Dropped 45 pounds since Jan 1.

Awesome! 45 pounds is like 1.5 bikes.
