  1. Well, great success.  I bought a Spawn Banshee 16" on Craigslist.  It took my daughter all of 10 minutes to get used to turning the pedals in a full circle and then she was riding like she had done it before.
The 16" bike is big but with the seat slammed she can reach the ground.  I'm glad I didn't buy a smaller bike.  By the end she was pushing off to get started without my help.
I'm not entirely sure she's physically capable of using the brakes.  I tried adjusting the reach, but cable v-brakes aren't something I have much practice with.  Brakes are a bad habit anyway.

Pond Springs elementary. My daughter learned to ride her bike on that blacktop. We live down the street. She’s on a Fairdale Macaroni now. 952443f41077bc8f8c47056cbb6ca35a.jpg

  2. I left the house early this morning worrying about viruses, jobs and homeschooling and came back home thinking about techy spots on Deception and sweet jumps on Snail. Beautiful morning on the trails.

  3. I'm thinking about a huge probably 20 inch tree that is starting to lean just after you hit one of the drop onPicnic. It will fall one day and get turned into a sweet feature. What tree are you referring to? Is it a recent lean or fall? Does it need to get removed for safety? Or is it maybe just a tree a bit in the way as is?.

The one you can see above my right glove? That sucker is getting hard to duck under. It’s near the two drops toward the middle of Picnic.3fc122caa04f180c845e8991ff2c44a2.jpg

  4. Anyone have a favorite feature at Brushy? Mine has to be the left drop at the beginning of the north end of picnic. It’s not the most difficult drop, but is exciting because you enter pointing down, drop for a few feet and then land going downhill which just shoots you down the trail. Makes me smile every time.

It took me a few times rolling up to that one before I finally went for it. It’s not as bad as it looks but it took me a few times before I could really match the landing angle. Landing rear wheel first will really snap you forward. 4102d929154d2d305015822ae6367cd7.jpg

  5. Wow. just wow.
The reason for the closure was a property owner complaint to the County Commissioner, Terry Cook, commissioner1@wilco.org https://www.wilco.org/comm1
In the mtg y'day Wilco Parks and Rec director Russell Fishbeck 512-943-1922, Cell 512-409-1124 russell.fishbeck@wilco.org and Michael Young Supervisor 512-943-1923 michaelyoung@wilco.org advised Cullen and I that they intend to close this section of trail. They asked that we work with the local communities to help communicate, faciliate, and ultimately maintain the closure. We asked they give us advanced notice before doing so, in order to get communication out with dates, maps, description of the closure.
They agreed to give us a heads up before proceeding with the actual closure.
They also were not interested in discussing an alternative route further from the houses. It was also clear they have no intention of allowing any future ARR development on their parks.
With this latest development, including their willful deceit I am no longer going to continue to be the Trail Steward. I cannot continue to work with these folks, from day one they have made us feel like a thorn in their side.
My decision is not a knee-jerk reaction, it's not based purely on this occurrence, and it is with extremely heavy heart (more than you can imagine) that I step away.

Thank you and the other builders/stewards who have helped create and maintain these trails. I can definitively say that having these trails 10 minutes from my house has changed my life for the better and has drastically improved my health (mental health probably more so than physical).

  6. Picnic, quarter notch and snail are good to go. Be careful though, some of the rocks on quarter are super slick. I’m sure double down is fine if your slick rock riding skills are up to par. I was too nervous to try.

Just got back from riding Picnic and 1/4 Notch. Picnic was good. Just one small puddle that’s there often. 1/4 is getting slick again from all this moisture in the air. Saw a dude go OTB on a small ledge while his helmet-less friend looked on. They had one small commuter light each.

  7. I’ve been five or six times and always end up riding the lift with someone who has driven a long way to get there. Seems like a lot of their traffic is out-of-towners which is cool. Dallas, Houston, Oklahoma, etc.

  8. Planning a trip up to Bentonville for my 40th bday coming up in May, and wanted to see if anyone had recommendations on AirBnBs they've used before.  There seem to be a ton up there, so hoping to narrow it down a bit.

I can’t find the place I stayed a couple of years ago but any place close to downtown or Crystal Bridges will have access to trails with no driving.

I turn 40 in May also. I think I’m just going to stop counting birthdays.

  9. I used to ride almost exclusively at night. It’s definitely a different beast, as I’m sure most trails are. I never sleep well after night rides for whatever reason. Too juiced I guess.
First ride today 3 weeks post vasectomy[emoji15]and according to the physician, “the toughest he’s done in 2-3 months...” but yeah no pain! So relieved.

Trail is great right now. I almost went flying into the first G-out coming up Rim Job when I just had a feeling it might suck. So glad I did because the rocks were slick as hell. When I went down basket as I was rolling away one of those large green softball sized things tried to tweak my front tire out from under me. Hazards everywhere!
So glad to be riding again!

Sounds like you had a good post vasectomy green scrotum ball dodging ride. Those scrotum looking green balls are everywhere out there!
