I think you mean the Southern Walnut Creek Trail (sidewalk) that runs around the east side of Austin. CharDog submitted a plan about 10 years ago to build trails there. The City considered it until some tennis pro named Andy Roddick said something about building a tennis center on the flat land at the top. PARD put the whole thing on hold while they developed a "Master Plan". We are still waiting. I would not hold your breath on anything happening in my lifetime.

Ahem, Chardog and Myself. I call that area 7 mile hill. (distance from Bolm trailhead) Made lines on Google Earth, then Char helped me bring ARR clout to the COA parks and meetings. I was the project champion but red tape took the wind out of my sails. The proposal was rebranded from 7 mile hill to Skyline Trails. Char's idea. Anyways first we were told it's a go, since greenbelt land needs no environmental impact studies, or master plan. Then they decided to designate that hill as parkland instead. Boom Crickets.  It was to be the first downhill system in the region, but has very minimal emergency access. I should dig up the google earth files. There were maybe 7 shoots and the paved trail was the climb back up.

As a Strava racer, I think that your rational ignores the instance of cyclists being bit by off leash dogs.

I don't ignore that. I already said don't let mean dogs off leash in another comment. That includes ones that bite or have any violent tendency. It's up to you weather you blast by them or not to get a KOM, and in actuality there is a trail speed limit which I'm positive strava users have to ignore in order to rank. Me, I stop riding if it looks sketchy and let them pass.

Exactly. I'll find the arrows, remember "stickers away from the disc," whatever it takes to know which way they go. Hold the tire up to the rim, pretend like it's rolling down the trail, etc. Mount the tire, and then realize the next day that I still managed to out it on backwards.

There's obviously a failure point in the process somewhere in there, but despite my efforts I still have no idea where it is 😄

If you start to pedal and the bike rolls backwards, you will know they are def on backwards!

It's across the road on the trail approaching the park from the loop 360 direction

Oh that's Boatright if I remember correctly. We tried to route the EB through there with orange silverware years ago.....because the EB wasn't tough enough already.

  5. I like how all the tough gun rights guys are the first to go crying to the government for help.

on a posi note....I'm down to 183 from 200 lbs, have my crockpot fired up 4 nights a week(any dried thing + onion + sausage), playing tons of music, and STILL killing the Nut on a nightly. I vowed this was Year of The Tay in Jan and I was not gonna be a spectator as much. Well with no sports on, I got my way. and....

Keep in mind if you do need help out there for some reason you better be prepared to handle the scrutiny that will come with it.

“Wait...the parks were closed and some mountain biker thought they could go ride around the lake anyway? Who do they think they are? “

Make your own call but this is one weekend where I’m choosing to not ride a trail in a closed park. It doesn’t pass my “how would this look on the news?” test. Same reason I never went on that middle of the week cruise and left my teenagers at home alone no matter how cheap the ticket.

Not just "some mountain biker" I'm talking ME man. That shit is closed for Easter parties. Prob could do a Dragonslayer and remain isolated. I mean it's Georgetown. No one even rides it it's so tecky. But yeah lets all pass each other on the streets. What about driving on 35 with the windows cracked? Is that cootie central also? What if a trucker just coughed out his window a mile ahead of me? Also there is sometimes sarcasm in my posts.
