It didn't exist for awhile later. It's the preferred way to go traveling E to W .

Has anyone ridden up that way W-E?  I've hit the drop at really high speed but always bitch out when it comes time to pull for the step up.

Squeeze is right before Ray's. Ray's, then Jammer, Satellite isn't a feature so much as a section, but it's a distinct transition into the Hollows - that's where "Satellite" is...there was literally a Dish Satellite thrown in the woods there.

Wow.  Jammer definitely doesn't look like that anymore.

It looks like the drop and immediate step up at the start of the hollows didn't exist back then?  Or did these guys just prefer to go through the skinny/rooty section?

The Colorado hikers vs bikes issue does seem to be mostly around Denver.  Only ever had one issue with an upset hiker between Breck and Dillon and none around Winter Park.  However along the foothills just west of Denver it's a different story.  Strangely never had any problems around Boulder though, I got more dirty looks when carrying in my rock climbing gear than when in my bike.  With Brushy you never know what you're going to get from the hikers and bikes some great people but a fair number for dbags. Maybe it's the proximity to metro areas.

My buddy lives in COS and at one point there was a guy wielding a hatchet chasing this biker.  Nuts.

IMHO, maxxis EXO and EXO plus are pretty durable for here. From most aggressive rear down:

    DHR2

    dissector

    aggressor

    rekon

    ikon

Lot of people swear by the aggressor as a good rear tire for CTX. If i could run wider than 2.3 i'd be all over a DHF/Rekon combo. Had DHF/Griffin and recently swapped to hans D & rock razor with an insert. Night and day for rolling resistance.

My other bike has 2.6 DHF & DHR with insert and feels like the parking brake is on🤣

100% on that last point. I put 2.8 DHR and 2.6DHF on my hard tail and it feels like pedaling through mud.

thanks for the help. I finally got this tire seated and after the pain in the ass I just went through I will definitely be switching on the next run.

It's a Continental product. no joke: a warped Conti tire is very common. take it back and buy something that does not suck.

I’ve loved the tire in the past but I haven’t tried a ton of other options. Any recommendations on a similar tire or just any rear tire that is good on the chunky stuff around here? I run a minion DHF on the front but had a lot of bad luck with the DHR.

  6. Follow up question on the new tire. When I spin the wheel, it looks like my wheel is way out of true. Looks like it is bouncing all over the place. But then I did a zip tie against the rim and spun it and the wheel is perfect. Is it normal to have this issue? Anything to be concerned about?

Watched a guy on a 160mm Pivot clean the cradle W-E. He took the right side over the boulders. Made it look ridiculously easy.

That's crazy.  I tried that several times and kept ending up ass over elbows at the last boulder.

I've only ever been able to ride cradle W to E, and that was a while back.  I'm not sure of the best line E to W.  Do you go wide then cut to the left?  I avoid riding the slot but I wondered if here maybe instead of going left, the best choice is the slot then pop up onto the left line.

I've always found riding the cradle W-E is harder. I could never figure out the turn at the beginning and just recently started getting it within a couple of tries.

Going east to West, it's just a matter of getting up to the high side right away rather than riding in the crack.  There is a small section at the start where the low side (low side = left side if you're looking at the crack from E-W) is higher than the right side and you can kind of wheely over to the high side.  Then you just take that across and drop down toward the end. That probably Didn't make a ton of sense, but I'll see if I can get a video at some point.

Speaking of such things, when you see someone like that likely above their head, do you stop and watch?  Do you say something?  Do you move on?  I've seen many riders at the top of Cru Jones trying to psych themselves into riding it, with varying amounts of peer pressure.  I can't bear to watch so I just move on.

I go the route of moving on nowadays too.  Just try to mind my own business unless someone is intentionally f'ing up the trails.

not sure if it was a messenger bike, but I saw a guy on DD with some skinny wheeled bike with a basket on the back. He also had some kind of boom box going full blast... and no helmet of course. I told him “nobody wants to hear that crap”, but it was so loud I don’t think he could hear me.

Man, I don't know how I missed his lack of helmet, but that's whom I was referring to.  He had someone w/ him that had a nice bike too.  If someone showed up with no helmet to ride w/ me I would tell them no way.  I don't need that on my conscience.

At first I was happy to see people getting off the couch and using the trails. Now I'm over it. For the first time I made a conscious decision to avoid all the brushy trails Sunday morning, just to avoid people😢

Agreed x1000.  I don't even get near Brushy on weekends.  For what its worth, if you stick to double down and rim job you can avoid most of the knuckleheads at least.

I had asked a few weeks ago about the appropriate speed for hitting the big drop on Snail.  After running out of excuses, I finally conducted my own trial and error exercise.  Seems obvious in hindsight, but it turns out you CAN go too slow on that drop.

Like everybody else, I hit it too fast the first time.  The second time, I slowed down way too much in an effort to find the "right" speed,.  As I started dropping, I remember thinking I may not clear the gap.  Luckily, I did clear it, but ended up with a super, super scary nose heavy landing.  Third time, I went back to not worrying about going too fast, and it was just fine.  I guess the lesson for me was, as always, don't overthinking it and just go.

For me, the landing doesn't seem that much harsher than the bigger drops on picnic.

Good for you for doing it multiple times.  I did it the one time and that, so far, has been enough for me.

Just saw this today, if this is what you're talking about. I stuffed some smaller rocks under it, but it definitely needs some work.

I've been eyeing this for a while and have never had the cajones to do it.  Does anyone roll up to this with speed and hop the whole feature from the top?

ok - i'll say it. I don't think purpose built, sustainable b-lines are a bad thing. I don't think any b-line will make 1/4 or DD an 'easy' trail. if the main feature is still there, and there is a purpose built b-line for riders not yet able to attempt that feature, why not. the more people we have riding trails the better - in opinion. purpose built b-lines also discourage people from altering or creating there own cheater lines. let the flaming begin.

Today I rode double down and deception like always e to w. I always get to this feature in the same direction and do the rock garden then a wheelie drop. It is a really fun section. After doing it I looked back and decided to do it the other direction for the first time. I thought it was cool. Video makes it look small like always but it is on a little incline and well above my 27.5+ tires hight

Hell yah Morris. That step up is probably my favorite feature on DD.
