Anyone running bigger tires on a 29er? I’ve been running 2.3s on 30mm rims but am curious about going up to a 2.5 or 2.6. I’m considering an Assegai up front to replace a worn DHF but don’t want to add too much rotational weight.

I rented a stumpy last year w/ 29x2.6 tires and it felt like cheating.  It rolled over everything so easily.  Thinking about doing something similar with my next bike.  Running 27.5x2.6 now.

I do have one question, I'm on a hard tail and going up the higher steps, I have no problem getting the front wheel up and over and I have the power to get the back wheel over them; but after I get the front wheel up, the back wheel hits and knocks me off the pedals or my pedals clip the rock ledge and do the same. Any tips to correct that? It's too high for me to bunny hop up, I can only fully clear objects about 8 inches with both wheels and that's when I'm lucky. Only about 6 inches consistently(<insert joke here>) and that is on flat ground.

This video has a great explanation on how to fix your issue.  His videos in general are really good.

That guy has been roaming the trails for a few years now. He's not a concern anymore, but in the early days he liked to sit on ledges like Sponge Bob and I had a few close calls with him... it seems he's learned from it though. His dog hasn't caused any issues from the beginning, but that's not the norm with off-leash (and sometimes on-leash) dogs; I had ride a few weeks ago (posted about it March 3rd) where I had 2 close calls, one while launching off the Swag drop where a girl and her weimar were standing hidden off the side below, and the dog spooked and ran right under me as I dropped in at speed, then ran in front of my tire until I could come to a stop. Had it jumped out a second sooner it would have been ugly for both of us. The other was 2 dogs on leashes, and I was climbing; both dogs spooked and shot off in different directions, reached the end of their leashes, then ran the other way tangling with each other and the owner, lol. Luckily I was creeping along and stopped immediately. This was on the same ride, mind you...

He still does this.  Ran up on him riding W-E a few months back and he was sitting on the ledge of sponge bob.

  4. Is Peddler's considered bi-directional now?  I was riding counter clockwise today, told a guy he was going the wrong way and he told me it's bi-directional.  Didn't notice any of the "wrong way" signs anymore and I hadn't been over there in a couple months.

Rode Snail, Rim, Deception, and Picnic between 6 and 7:30. Saw a lot of traffic on Picnic and 1/4 but not much at all on DD and Rim.

At this point I'm riding exclusively on DD if I go between 3 and 7, because the number of walkers has gotten so out of hand.  They obviously have as much right to the trail as me; just saying that's how I manage to avoid them.

Clueless people were out in full force last week. Along with a dozen or so helmetless/shirtless mountain bikers, I saw two hikers almost get hit by a train because they decided to walk across the bridge by Mulligan. I’m all for people enjoying the outdoors, but I’d rather not spend my ride watching people narrowly avoid serious injuries.

This week, I switched to riding first thing in the morning and it’s wonderful!

Took me a second to realize you meant an actual train and not a train of bikers.

  7. Saw a girl riding on bcrt with a face mask and no helmet today. You know, for when The only thing you wanna catch is a brain injury.

Also came up on a guy who took a header on the bigger drop on the west end of Picnic. Hope you’re ok if you post here.

Felt harder, but I landed real deep. Felt like a Huck to flat and nearly bounced off the bike. I’m sure with a little less speed And catching the transition closer to the top would feel pretty good. I’m also currently on a steel hardtail so take that for what it’s worth.

How do you fit those massive balls in your bike shorts?

Here's the complete ride report from Rich. Probably the best Spider testimonial I've seen to date, especially for somebody who earns their living mountain biking in Bentonville. He's a ripper too which makes the vid really entertaining to watch.

Him riding Stinger while having a casual conversation really pissed me off.

  10. Soooo apparently the city decided to shut down a large section of the rim connector. Was riding east to west, and the entrance to the rim connector at the exit of deception has a new wooden fence. Very sad.

    edit: whoops.
