Where you on the black cross bike?

That was probably me. Not really a cross bike, or even a monstercross. It's a fat bike set up with 29er wheels and a drop bar. I call it a monstertour. And it's black and was there last night from dusk to about 7.

A few years back the Mellow Johnny's classic was run on his ranch and he ended up with a DNF. Technically anyone that finished the race beat him.

Out of curiosity I was looking at that propery (the singletrack really) online a few weeks ago. Do you know if that's one of the places he sold? Wonder if the trails still exists? It is in a great area for trails.

John - Grelle Natural area would be "interesting" to hit by bike.  Very much hiking trails (no bike type flow).  But, would be fun to hit.  They have some sections that include steps that would be REALLY challenging.  And others that would be impassible by bike.  Would only hit it if you want to get another notch in your trail reviews.

I rode Grelle early this summer. I thought it was a lot of fun, if a bit short.

My comments at the time were:

"It has a couple of really fun trails. Mustang Ridge, Overlook and Cottontail work out to be about 3.5 miles of fun rocky ridge singletrack, with lots of quick up/down grade reversals. And there is another 3 or so miles of decent fast singletrack. It's all a little hard to get to though, with the fun stuff requiring a short but tough and steep cobble grind of Fox Run. Anyway, the place offers lovely views and the terrain is very cool. I’ll probably put it on a 8-12 month rotation."

And Colarado Bend is a damn good time!

Also, while we're on the subject of the brands they sell, what do you think about Fuji?  I thought the Altamira I bought had pretty good value for the quality of frame, groupset, etc.

I think the Yari looks like a fun a decent value adventure bike. I have a friend in NY who loves his.

When are we doing a WC night ride?

If by we you mean me and my bicycle, then we do WC night rides 1 to 2 times per week after the time change. Also there is a fun group ride that leaves Oskar Blues at 6:30 on Thursdays if you're interested. It tends to have 15-30 folks. With beer after and often before.

  6. It really did. It woke me up and continued for about 2 hours. Unfortunately I've had my fill of not riding singletrack the last couple of days.

Were we the only two planning to do this ride? I think instead I'm going to head out to Pedernales for a good long ride on dirt and rocks. It looks like they missed most of the rain last night.

Impromptu for sure, but you're welcome to join me if you'd like. I could pick you up at 8 at WC.

I'm rollin' the EB Saturday from my house, dropping me in BCGB at the MoPac ped bridge near 360. Plan to hit Jester & Dual for H2O.  Also plan to roll the official BCGB route. Can't wait to get out there!

Are you doing the whole BCGB portion first or last? Seems more reasonable to end with a 75 degree swim than to start with a 55 degree swim.

What are your all's thoughts on riding City Park in these conditions?  Interested to hear everyone's opinion as it is the only place to really ride when wet in Austin and I encounter moto guys out there every time I ride it.

It can get quite muddy, but I've never seen that keep the motos off the trail.

  9. I definitely like to perform my Sunday religious observance of sleeping late, so afternoon works great for me.

Edit...although Austin is currently looking like 60% chance of rain for the weekend, so that's not great. Oddly Houston looks good this weekend, so that may be where I get my rides in.

  10. You have to try real hard to ride the Inner Loop. It isn't happening by accident. I know a good line through, but it still starts, ends, and middles messy. I moved to town after the bulldozer carnage. But I loved the Peak Loop and the Outer Loop so much, that I used GPS to force my way through the Inner Loop,  which is more of the same.

The ends of both Flow Trail and Jaws can pretty quickly conneced into either Beginner Loop or Race Loop with just a very short gravel road ride.

Here is a link to a ride where I did most everything. https://www.strava.com/activities/1380672953

And here's a relatively recent ride where I did everything but Epic. https://www.strava.com/activities/1612861663

Regarding Epic, it was the case that you used Tee Pee Trail to get to the bottom. But now TP is fenced and locked. So I'm not sure how you're supposed to manage it now.
