67 total miles, 100K of it sweet single track. (is it okay to mix miles and kilometers in one sentence?)

It is! For example you might say, "4 laps of the Goodwater trail is just over 100 miles! And 100K of rock garden!"

That just looks like the chain is going to slip on the cassette under stress.

That's why many non-AFD joke high pivot bikes have chain guides. And some of them have chain guides on the rear of the chain ring, forcing the chain to stay on the ring until about the 8 o'clock position.

To finish I tried this stuff from Utah. It was a very different rye.  At first I didn’t like it but it grew on me.

I love High West. They're one of 'merica's best whisky experimenters. And they're one of the "craft" distilleries who, IMO, did it right. They didn't try to push out their garbage whiskey as "premium" (I'm looking at you, Garrison, Peerless, Hudson and countless others), and so grossly overpriced that the buyer had to pretend it was good. No, while they were distilling and aging their own whisky, they sourced and blended good whiskey from the likes of MGP, Alberta, Dickel and others (a Scottish tradition) and let you know that is what was going on! In the process, they created one of the top 5 whiskies available in the US, A Midwinter Nights Dram. And now they're blending and selling their own distillate while continuing to source good whisky.

I've bought 3 different finished HW Double Rye bottles. 1 was pretty good, and the other 2 were spectacular. The pretty good one was branded Yippee Ki-Yay and was a regular release for them. YKY was finished in syrah and vermouth barrels. It was very popular, and kind of the poor man's AMwND. but it was not my favorite. Another great one was finished in (I think it was) chardonnay. And HW does a barreled Manhattan cocktail that's pretty excellent. And my favorite finished Double Rye, was finished in their own Manhattan cocktail barrels!

But Aquavit finished? Yikes. I'd like to try it...I don't think I'd like it.

  4. I have been seeing advertisements for this stupid little shim tool that you use to align your brake calipers. You're supposed to put it on your disk and between your pads when you use the brake squeeze and tighten alignment method. Supposedly it does a better job of centering the pistons on the disk.

I mean, who needs that? Just squeeze and tighten. Except that I've been fussing with mild pad/disk rub on both our gravel bikes for years. I've tried dozens of times to align them, and I've even used my own shims with limited results. And it's the whole reason I went to resin pads on these bikes--just to quieten the squeal.

So I got this tool. And I'll be damned if I didn't work perfectly. No more noise.

  6. Well gee, I don't know fellas. Trailforks showes an absolute shit-ton of trails. Not as much ar ATX or DFW, but more than San Antonio. And it's almost inevitable that when folks don't have technical terrain,  they add fun little Technical Trail Features.

Personally I enjoyed the Sugar Land Brazos river area trails. Unlike me you probably want to stay north of the river. But you'll find fun trails, lots of jumps and a few TTFs.

I've also enjoyed the Sam Houston Nat'l Forest area...but it's probably better if you're into the gravel with added singletrack thing. Although if you just want to get your hammer on, Double Lake is twisty pine forest fun.

Can you imagine hearing this in 1958? Everything before was instantly garbage.

    god-like.

I thank Quentin for exposing me to this. The funny thing is that $5 is actually cheap for a milkshake these days, even without bourbon in it or nuthin'.
