I have a set that came off my bike if you're interested. Stock wheel set. 12x142 rear 12 x100 front thru axle. I'll let them go cheap. Alex wheels.

I'd also build you a set if that's what you're looking for. Be forewarned not easy getting parts.

I'm rebuilding the wheels on my FS took three weeks to get spokes standard size nothing custom and I'm still waiting for the hoops to arrive their stuck in Germany somewhere for the last three weeks.

I will get back to you on that as I don't need them right now per se. Certainly don't hold them for me if you've got other people asking. But I appreciate it nonetheless

Do you have some very specific hubs or rims in mind? If not, a custom build might be unnecessary. Industry Nine has some really nice stuff.

I'm still kind of looking around, just thought it would be a cool summer project and I'm still looking into the feasibility of it all.

I like this model too! @Austin SmitheyIf you see anything in Intense's lineup that interests you, check with Joe at Monkey Wrench as he might be able to get you something under the price advertised on Intense's website. In addition to assembly, Monkey Wrench will deal with all of the warranty claims on your behalf. They got my XX1 derailleur replaced by SRAM well outside of the normal warranty period when the clutch failed. Something to be said for a bike shop that will work hard on your behalf like that.

    ill check them out thx

My last 2 complete builds and 1 frame were all direct to consumer brands and I don’t regret buying any of them! I think if you know what you want geometry wise (specifically reach and head angle for me) you can get the sizing right. I agree with @ATXZJ in the AL. All my bikes have been metal (chromoly hard tail, aluminum FS), might be a little more apprehensive in a carbon rig.
Also agree with the new bike, no one wants it scenario. Very little to be currently had.

Yeah the carbon builds are not only more expensive but make me a little more nervous and the "outdated" geometry  is also kind of putting me off from buying a Canyon

I ride a Canyon Endurace CF SLX and have over 19,000 miles on it. The maintenance I have done consists of replacing the chain a couple of times, replacing the rear cassette and of course tires. I took it to a LBS to check the bearings and they said they were all okay.

I was looking more specifically at their MTBs but this does make me feel better about the brand as a whole

Canyon makes some interesting bikes for a good price. Particularly the newer AL stuff. Their bearing life and machine quality could be better though. Lots of info out there on canyon, yt, commencal, fezzari etc. I'm happy with my commencal but they don't make anything like the scalpel that you're currently looking at.

Not to hurt any feelings, but if you can buy a new bike right now, it's usually because nobody else wants it.

Didnt think about that, kind of feels like the WWII story about where to put more armor on a plane.Finding the Missing Bullet Holes | OneBite

  8. Recently found out that the Cannondale Scalpel SE 2 inventory (the bike I've been saving up for the past few months) might not be available again until next fall. The only other option would be the SE 1 and its nearly 2k more (way out of my budget range). So I began looking for other options, like direct to consumer brands like Canyon. Does anyone have opinion about brands/companies like this? Are they worth it? Will the bike maybe not last as long as other major brands? Will I have to make upgrades off the bat that would negate the cheaper cost of the bike? Anything would be greatly appreciated!!

Some is posting a 58 cm Cannondale Synapse on nextdoor (Milwood) for $500. If you are interested lmk and I can send the seller a message

Yeah if he could send pics to my email that would be great, smithey314@gmail.com

  10. Been looking for a 58cm road bike nearly all summer. Preferably looking for a Cannondale CAAD series with 105/Ultegra components but let me know if yall have any offers. Need help. Budget is around a grand, little more or a little less might work. Thanks yall

  11. So I've recently gotten into mountain biking and my girlfriend who is 5'3" really wants to start joining me on some rides but would rather stick to road and/or gravel biking. Since I work at the Austin Tricyclist(very new to being a mechanic) I was either looking to get just a frame and build it up or buy an older bike with a decent frame and flipping it. What would y'all say I should do and also what frame size should I be looking for? I've been seeing a lot of different numbers being thrown around and I'm not as familiar with road bike sizes and such. Thanks.

Thats going to be a tough find.  IMHO decent FS bikes are hard to find (used) for $1k...then add in the rarity of an XXL and demand will be very high for that bike.  Have your money ready and move QUICKLY if you run across something.  Good luck in your search.

I appreciate it, Ive been scouring Facebook marketplace both down here in austin and up where my family lives in Austin. Closest thing I could find so far was an XXL road bike

  13. After my dad saw my recent mountain bike purchase he wants to get in on the fun and asked me to help him find one. He is 6'8" and ~250lbs. So obviosuly he needs an XXL frame and he wants a 29er with full suspension. Message me here or text me at 972-217-6097. Budget around $1000. Thanks

your situation sounds like a good one to pursue route #2. get something that fits you, rolls when you pedal, and stops when you apply the brakes. larger sizes are hard to come by just like sneakers for people with big feet. they sell more mediums than XXLs because, by definition, most people are "medium." keep looking and be ready to pounce when something decent pops up.

I'm looking all over, sometimes it's great being 6'3" but also when it comes to stuff like this and like you said, buying shoes, options are pretty limited. But for sure I need an XL frame?
