Coming down pretty good on Far West right now. Hopefully it stops quickly. I don’t want to have to spend the evening with my family.

  2. I took CPR and AED training last year. I think CPR increases chances of survival to ~10% and AED is at least 2-3x that. But all of that assumes that someone can get to you to continue care and get you to a hospital. Given what I saw, I def would want an AED on hand if something ever happened to me.

I took a stress test earlier this year and I just knew that I was a ticking time bomb (I'd consulted WebMD about knee pain, it said heart attack likely) but I was cleared.

Shake well. Apply wet. Pedal backwards while it cleans the chain. Wipe off thoroughly. Dry lubrication remains that won't attract crud.

    Lather, rinse, repeat periodically.

With regular use this stuff will pay for itself by extending chain life significantly.

I'd been using the same one with good results. I did run out (I swore I had another bottle...) and had to resort to my ProLink Gold, which is decent but sticky.

One of the goals of the project was to standardize an FKT loop. The way Andy routed his, by starting at the bottom of the last major climb, is undoubtedly a faster way to do it. However, I believe that way is logistically prohibitive for a lot of people. We wanted to start and end at the most commonly used parking lot. I hope this project might inspire more folks to get out and enjoy this beautiful place, whether it’s going for the FKT or enjoying it over the course of multiple days. If you’d like to go after my record, I’d recommend planning your ride when wind and surface conditions are the most favorable. Also definitely ride a full-suspension. Holy bumpiness. Also remember that if you’re pacing it correctly, the first 50 miles really shouldn’t feel very hard. Have a well-thought-out fueling strategy. I ate 300 calories per hour, which requires eating almost every 20-30 minutes. We’re having an official FKT trophy being made, so if you go beat my time using the same start and end point, I’ll ship it to you. Records are made to be broken, so I hope the trophy exchanges hands many times!

Dang, gives out tips on how to approach the task and tries to make this bigger than himself. This guy sounds like a gem of a human.

Bicycle Sports Shop on Lamar rents bikes and is right down the road from the entrance to the Greenbelt.  I wouldn't say it was 'flowy' in the traditional groomed trail sense but there is more trail than you can ride in a few hours for sure.

+1 on BSS rental + Barton Creek Greenbelt being a great option for riding to the ride. But as everyone says... it is not flowy and full of berms. It is chunky and technical and beautiful and a hoot.

What is your skill level on technical?

On Monday - Wednesday I have no commitments and can ride anytime. Thursday I have my annual physical so I could be ready to ride from ~11:00 onward.

If you want a flow good time I would not recommend the Greenbelt as it is more technical and can easily overwhelm a person. Walnut Creek is the flowy place in town.

I can pick you up at the shop and we can drive to the trailhead so you don't have to muck with a rental bike on a rental car.

Ping me if you want to ride and we can work out the details. BSS is the best place to rent in town.

+1 on riding with AustinBike for a greenbelt or Walnut tour. But don't let Walnut be your only ride, though, because it's a criss crossy, spaghetti noodle urban park that is indeed swoopy and twisty but doesn't feel as epic or remote as other trails in town.

Here's my take and take it for what you will.  I am transgender, MtF. Oh I'm in Waco so you don't have to worry about sharing the trails with me. I'm mixed on the whole thing. So much that I will not enter any race or competition. I would love to but know this would happen. So I just ride for the fun of it. I can say that because I am on hormones that I have lost a lot of muscle mass. Estrogen isn't the idea hormone to be if you want muscles. Bones don't change so I can't say much about that. I would love to be alive for the day that this is solved and everyone is happy. There is no easy answer other than what has been said about making it all one class. Guess you can keep the age divisions.  Most leagues require testosterone levels to be under 10ng/dL and they have to have proof it has been like this for at least 6 months. I don't think most people will do this just to win a race. There is a lot of potential health issues that can come from hormone replacement therapy.

    a) It seems that you agree that it is a complex topic, not easily resolved.

    b) I'd ride and have a beer/mimosa with you any time. I cannot imagine the experience of feeling that my body is such a mismatch for who I feel I am that the challenges of a transition would be better than the status quo. Welcome to the forum and community!

Eventually, if you add enough travel you'll void the frame warranty. I'm pretty sure that's because the increased HTA applies a bigger bending moment to the head tube, potentially overloading it.

Yes, this. Bikes already love breaking at the headtube. Throw a much longer fork than your Ventana was designed for and go do some drops, the headtube will be aching to rip itself from the rest of the frame.
