I dont know who's been building those off shoot trails on SWCT but they are a blast on the gravel rig! It's a lil tight on the mtb as I tend to bang trees with my wide bars. That long downhill going south toward Loyola would make a fun switchback jump line in the woods as well.
shhh...

you dont need the gate code. I think you can park at the YMCA and ride across the street. There is a path to bypass the gate. It is meant to be ridden to on the south walnut creek trail
It is a bike park, but I think they changed the name to trail because there are actually a lot of trails on the east side.

Sorry about that. I was responding directly to ATXZJ's comment about needing a minimum 76 STA on a FS bike.
Joking aside, I was serious about the art of climbing and how with old-school geo it was essential to scoot forward in the saddle on long, sustained climbs. When I was racing XC on my Orbea Alma HT in the Cascades, some of those races started with a 5-mi or more climb. I'd find that forward position in the saddle where there was just enough weight on the rear-wheel to maximize traction, then bring my chest down and grind. Even being far forward on the saddle, it's actually not an uncomfortable position because your bike is pointing up and your pedals are supporting your weight. I think you will be just fine with 73.2 degree STA.
I much prefer the old school geometry on STA. I found the new geo put me too far forward. I dont mind scooting up on my seat. maybe those steep STA are designed for the 10 mile climbs they have in actual mountains.

I have a QR skewer in Central Austin if you need it.
would be great, can i do a porch pickup? Is it a rear?

ok need one last thing. Does anyone have a rear QR skewer? I figure people have a ton of these in a box. I happened to have one, no idea where the paired one is.
It actually doesnt have to be QR.

Currently dealing some lower back issues and starting to look at the next steps of recovery. Have a couple questions for you that I'd appreciate any insight you could provide.
Thanks!
- What are you currently dealing with or have dealt with in the past?
- What did you do to resolve?
airrosti was very helpful for me. I normally am skeptical of all things like that. But they did a little massage and exercises and my problem went away fast.
I do a lot of jiu jitsu and flexibility and strength training to build the core really help a lot.

I have a pair of avid elixrs, no rotors, just levers, hydro tubes and calipers. You’ve got first shot if you want them. I can leave them out for you.
thanks, I got antsy and ended up buying a set of shimano mt200, super low end but only $75 for the pair.

does anyone have a disc brakes? I can trade, have tires, dropper post etc.

The question that needs to be asked is "what about Austin"?
We have short, punchy uphills. I have a friend in CA and I watch her Strava for comparison. She was telling me when we come out in the spring that I better be ready to climb. But they are climbing on jeep roads, 2,000 feet for a 20 mile ride. I generally hit ~1600' for a 20 mile greenbelt ride. Her climbing is steady, long, and at a lower grade. I am pretty sure I can blow past her friends at this point as all of my CA friends have had issues keeping up on greenbelt rides here.
In so cal the climbs are a similar grade but a lot longer. Typically around 250-300 ft/mile.
this is whiting ranch, which is an out and back. So 3800 in around 12 miles. The california riders kicked my ass, but when my BIL rides in austin he really struggles with the tech.

I think bull creek is fine for beginners. I ride with my 8yo. Lots of poison ivy though.

I did the haleakala climb which is 10K ft in 25 miles. So 3 of that - no thanks..

TFW you spend 3k on a bike for an 8 year old...
TBF 3 kids are going through this bike and I didnt spend 3K since I built it up myself. You cant get the frame only anymore so to replace it would be around 3K or possibly more.
-
TFW your 8 year old leaves his 3K bike on the driveway and you run over it with your truck...

I have a small porter cable pancake compressor for nail guns, paint gun, and also use it to seat tires. It works fine.

Wish:
I know this is a shot in the dark, but my buddy Andy at Peddler Bike Shop is recommending I try some handlebars with more of a rise to them to see if that gets me slightly more vertical. I'm hoping it will lessen my odds of going OTB.
Does anyone have an extra pair of 35mm bars with 30-45mm rise? Preferably 780 or wider but I just want to try it out before I buy new handlebars. I don't even need to keep the bars. Maybe just borrow and return if you would prefer to have them back?
Anyone?
risers can make you more comfortable, but dont think they have much to do with going OTB.
For going OTB you have to get your butt back. Behind the seat can even be touching your wheel. Dropper posts mainly help by allowing you to get the seat out of the way so you can get your butt back. I prefer to fall off the back vs going OTB.

I put a motor on my hard tail and it was awesome. Could easily do 5 laps of cat to work on downhill vs like 2-3 normally
The specialized levo carbon expert SL is around 39 pounds and runs about 7K used.
Im looking to buy one but just waiting for the right deal. I did find one forsale in norcal but the guy doesnt want to ship it.
If anyone wants to buy a bafang motor kit I would sell mine.

Ive wanted a walkbehind skid steer, but they are more expensive than a regular one.

"Potential reduction in neutralization by monoclonal antibody treatments"
From the FDA Web site: "Monoclonal antiboies are laboratory-made proteins that mimic the immune system's ability to fight off harmful pathogens such as viruses."
So: Some of the COVID variants show varying degrees of resistance to monoclonal antibody treatments.
Monoclonal antibody treatment can be very effective against COVID and Regeneron (brand) has demonstrated that monoclonal antibody treatment can be effective in preventing infection in people who have been exposed to COVID.
monoclonal antibodies as the name suggests are a single clone of a b cell line that produces an antibody that is targeted towards one binding site.
Mutant virus may or may not have a mutation in that binding site. If they do, then the monoclonal antibodies wont be as effective.

It is essentially required. Mobile browsers dont do well with sites without certs.

they have real forests out there, it will be amazing. The east coast has a lot higher density of interesting cities with a lot of great history.

Im a little confused as they say it is tracts off winterberry, but 1A in the map is in the very north most part of jester.
-
from nextdoor:
Champion tract 1A is up for sale again....Urgent. The Champions are back at it again! The 9 acres between The Gables (on the south), Winterberry (on the north), 360(east) and Jester (west). We have met with the seller who is anxious to get rid of it and has offered to sell it to the Jester residents...asking price is $500,000. This what we know: The last Champion sister has died(101) and property tax basis will change, the family is trying to divest itself of all land holdings (per seller), access to this tract is very problematic (legal access is from 360 by temple, there is also a restricted overlay through the Gables roadways...which is not ideal! A developer would love to ingress from Winterberry), tract is zoned for 6 single family homes but the vision is for multi family/commercial. Residents on Winterberry are brainstorming for solutions and one would be for the land to become a Jester HOA hiking trail. Yes, the HOA would have to buy it and yes there would have to be a one time HOA assessment and residence donations to pay for it. Winterberry residents are willing to shoulder a good part of the financial burden for the greater good of our neighborhood. Please realize, if we don’t act it is too valuable to go on undeveloped. Ingress from Winterberry or through the Gables will yield the same result: construction/resident traffic through Lakewood, Beauford, Jester and any off streets. This is an informal investigation to gauge the interest for this project before it is presented to the HOA. Please comment or 👍. I know there are a lot of questions about this. If anyone knows who our President is will you please let me know?
