So you'd rank thumper over city park? Is thumper your number 1?

to the OP there are some clearly hardest trails and clearly easiest trails. In between there are sections of trails that can be hard or easy so a ranked list doesnt really make sense. The hardest is probably cat and thumper. The easiest is walnut or south austin trail network. In between there are a lot of trails.

Harvesting process could be arduous.  Maybe durian smell or mercaptan?

There are daily instances of porch piracy in my hood.  Rings are documenting the piracy but not stopping it.

I listed those because you can buy them bottled. The you can just needs a different nozzle. Here is a video of a very inexpensive one based on paintball paint grenades. There is a high risk of accidents during assembly

    https://www.instructables.com/BEST-DIY-Paintball-Grenade/

  4. Was thinking there are some people with the skills to make something like this.

It would be based on this refillable spray can

    https://www.amazon.com/Jacquard-YouCAN-Refillable-Powered-Spray/dp/B0748KZFQK/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=refillable+paint+spray+can&qid=1608474897&sr=8-2

The first iteration might just be tip attachment that has a pin that can be pulled. Once the pin is pulled the spray can sprays the filled liquid everywhere.

Fill with cat urine, coyote urine, skunk scent etc.

Attach the pin to the lid of the box. When the box is opened the pin is pulled and the urine sprays everywhere.

The ideal form factor would be pre-pressurized and not reusable.

I think this would sell really well, but might be illegal.

Thanks for all of the feedback. What I’m gathering is this isn’t turning out to be a surprise Cmas gift idea. Oh well...

I guess I’ve never been too picky with seats personally- I’ve always been happy with the stock seat on each of my bikes. Maybe I don’t know what I’m missing???

It typically doesnt matter until you ride for over a few hours. Then it matters a lot. I got lucky and the first WTB volt saddle I used worked and I have bought that same shape ever since. I have used a tioga spyder, which is a plastic shell and it worked well. It turns out padding is completely unnecessary if the seat fits right.

I know we have a dedicated parent bragging thread, but couldn’t find one dedicated to kids bike builds and know there are multiple guys on this forum who have build bikes for their kids in the past and some currently working on this.

I will go first. I’m building up a 24” hotrock for my 7 y.o. daughter and once it’s done will begin building up a 24” hotrock for my 6 y.o. Son (not in a hurry here, figure he will not grow out of his current bike for a year or two). I purchased a complete hotrock on Facebook marketplace for my daughter that works without issue but weighs 30lbs. I don’t want be a huge weight weenie because I’d like to keep the price under $1k. Figure 23-25lb range is doable in this price point. I’ve already purchased BOX carbon bars 700mm to cut down to 650mm/stem combo on close out at Velomine, I’m on a back order list for a 24” sr Suntour air fork,  Bought sr Suntour Auron 1x cranks at 152mm. Searched the ends of the earth for an affordable 24” disc wheelset and there is nothing to be had. Thought I’ll build some! 24” rims are hard to come by and the two I could find are pricey. Ended up ordering a wheelset off Ali express and keeping fingers crossed they are decent. Once I get the wheelset I’ll figure out remaining drive train. Other than that will need to decide on tires a brakes.

the goto is 24" stans crest rims. I built mine with circus monkey hubs, but you could use anything.  For fork, 26" forks often will have the same A2C. So I have an old rockshox sid on my kids bike.

I originally did a hotrock build for my daughter. Then my son inherited her bike. He was riding  more so I bought a trailcraft maxwell 24 frame and migrated all the parts over.

For the cranks I used bombshell crx 155 (?) cranks.

I am generally anti-technology on bikes, but the one thing that does seem to make sense to me is the remote control dropper. I have a friend (really bike smart) and she swears by hers. With all of the routing issues it seems like this would be a no-brainer. I am still cheap so I will wait for that technology to come down in price, but when it does I will be all over it.

I have a 31.6 ks lev (?)  internal routing dropper you can have. It doesnt have a ton of drop but will give you the feel. Just because you are a good guy.

We shouldn’t all need to log into Instagram. @crazyt started the thread, and also hosted the fundraiser. Time for an update from the man himself!

pm sent. I dont really use instagram either, but that is what the young people use today. They had to make the feed private because of some issues with posters. 5525 johnny morris rd.

They have workdays on wednesdays and post updates on IG. image.thumb.png.916abf1d6eb64a80bb811f8b8c95e8e9.png

  9. The build was a trailcraft maxwell 24. I migrated all the parts over but the spindle threads for the non driveside crank were stripped (hotrock had a 68mm shell and the trailcraft has a 73mm so the original bolt was long enough to hit threads on the hotrock). I used the helicoil to repair the threads which worked great. I wanted to get the lug nut bolt so at least he could ride the bike on his birthday.

I got two versions of drain plugs from amazon (couldnt find the lengths) but shipping was a week out. It turns out both worked. It is one of the few times when every option and backup option worked, which was nice for a change.

  10. 24" hotrock frame. It has the rear adapter for hydraulic brakes, but I needed the front for the new build.

Ill need to take the stem, I just have it on so the fork doesnt fall out. I had it built with standard 1x10 XT, XT hydro brakes, and 24" crest wheels. It is a straightforward build.

  11. I have a 155mm bombshell crank which is not easily replaced that had the threads stripped from kids riding it while the crank was loose. It uses a M15x1 as the crank bolt to hold the non drive side arm to the spindle.

I found an M14x1.5 helicoil repair kit and used that to repair the threads.

However now I cant find an M14x1.5 flat bolt of the same style as the original. I have ordered an M14x1.5 drain plug, which is approximately the same thing, but might be too short.

    The bolt is essentially these

    image.thumb.png.aa847d26d25e54ca6f21a9dddfdfe87e.png

I think my options are to find

    1) M14x1.5 bolt of the right style. These are the drain plugs

    image.thumb.png.7b71f3a869351f5fc136256cbb54f183.png

    2) Countersunk M14x1.5 and a countoured washer

    image.png.7571d8eb9939e3e7dd9e8678413d7a07.png

    3) Find a way to tap the spindle thread. I could only find M14x1.5. Im guessing because the threads on 1.0 are too small for a consumer level kit.

If anyone had access to real machinery that would be ideal..

Just checked the parts bin and I've got a black, 30.9 seatpost you are welcome to take. It's not super long - ~270mm, but if this is for an 8 year old I'm guessing you don't need anything super long. It's got a slight setback. I'm in Cedar Park and you're welcome to come grab it today if you are interested. Let me know and I'll IM you my address and I can just leave it outside for you.

that would be great, will send a pm, can come by tomorrow.

  13. Finally got some people interested to build something on a property on the east side.  They build every wednesday at 4pm

Not one single penny will ever go to those of us working. This is strictly a volunteer based project. All funds will go towards the following:

Blockchain for document control is interesting, But there are already a ton of document control solutions out there that don’t require it. If it were faster, cheaper and easier to use it would be everywhere. But it is clumsy, slow and expensive. Lots of places it *could* be used, but no places it will be used. Once cryptocurrency is dead, blockchain will follow.

you would only use blockchain for the authentication. The actual content could be hosted encrypted on centralized servers. You can separate storage from user interface and authentication. The key is no one knows the data they are storing.
