  1. image.thumb.jpg.363b44dc520821d4e92278952ed807c6.jpgAbout 5 years ago I built 1.5 miles of hiking trail behind our house on the hillside above Twin Creeks golf course. Great way to chill out after work, stretch the legs, and pick up a ton of expensive golf balls. It took 40-60 hours over several months with loppers and a hand saw to complete. After snowpocalype, it took another 20 hours to reclaim maybe a mile of the original trail.  Can’t even imagine what it looks like today.  Probably time to admit defeat.

  2. A couple of weeks ago, I had the privilege to ride for over 2 hours with a group of wounded warriors on Veterans Day.  Some of them were on ebikes along with their 76 year old former commander in chief.  It was wonderful to share the trail with them.

At 62, I’m not there yet, but no doubt that day will come.  If technology allows me to pursue an athletic passion that has brought so much joy for over 30 years, then sign me up for one more decade.

We don’t stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing. I intend to keep playing and will promise to keep peddling after I blow past you on that technical climb.

  3. Went up there with Sluggo and a few others in May.  Tons of rain the day before so had to avoid the clay stuff.  Rode a new Oz trail called Hand Cut Hollow that was more chunky limestone than everything else around.  Some people were freaking on the technical descents but we felt right at home.  Rocks were wet but not slick and we had that place all to ourselves.  Something different.

  4. Sounds like you’ve done your research. Lots of good peeps in our community willing to show you around. Austinbike is one of them. If you want to rack up some quick vertical one day, consider adding Canyonlands/Mount Lakeway to your list. MTB Project gives you an idea, but there are way more miles out there that don’t show up on the app. Hope the weather cooperates and you can enjoy the awesome resources we have at our disposal.

  5. Got jacked up pretty good in a head-on collision at WC several years ago. One of the worst things that ever happened to me on a trail. Some dickweed wearing headphones was blasting down a descent leading to the creek crossing as I was climbing out. Never saw him till too late.  Here’s a few suggestions to avoid that sort of violence.  1. Get a trail bell and ring that bitch on blind spots. 2. Go off the grid on weekends if you know what I mean. 3. Either lose the earbuds or turn that shit way down. 4. Save your KOM douchebaggery for a day when very few people are riding. If you want to race then sack up and compete head to head.

I hope no one has to experience what happened to me that day. Still think about it on the rare occasion I ride that trail. Bottom line.....be safe and yield every chance you get.

Those torrid summers continued through high school and I entered the local university already feeling worldly and experienced.  I dove into my studies, but quickly became diverted by those of the fairer gender.  One particularly enticing history grad student lured me into a continuous learning binge on pleasing a woman.  What started as a simple seduction of a younger man, turned into post graduate level education on freakiness.  This demure teaching assistant had dreams of taking her boy toy to France to further study revolutionary history and be physically satisfied on an hourly basis.  I learned so much about oils, fragrances, mood music, the subtle differences in lingerie that it was very difficult to break free from her grasp.  Once I saw her intent for a long term relationship, I tried and tried to escape her clutches, but her ongoing regimen of kegel exercises wouldn't release me from her spell.  As the summer of her European studies trip neared, I broke up with her several times.  Each time, I'd return, having not yet received my advanced degree in female arousal.  She left for France without me and we both moved on.  I still see her around town and we both have to resist the rare earth magnetic attraction that brought us together all those sultry nights.  We're both married to different partners now, but I do believe our spouses benefit from my studies "abroad."

    .....to be continued.

  7. Hadn’t been to PB in awhile but decided to take a friend out there last week who had never been. As we approached that feature I encouraged him to take the lower line and avoid the tree up high that I usually ride. It’s a little tricky at first. As we turn the corner and line up....WTF???  Some bitch cut it down. Took me a long time to get comfortable riding that line and still kept me on my toes after many successful attempts. Sucks it happened but glad I got it down while it was there.

Just got back from "riding" (read: walking) parts of 1/4 and DD... turned into more of a spot check than a ride; still too wet in most places, lots of sticky, yucky, splashiness. I don't see it being ready tomorrow, especially with the humidity and clouds in the forecast, then comes more rain...

It’s times like these when you just have to travel. Did 2 hours at Pace Bend today. Had it all to myself and that place was absolutely perfect. Killed it out there and goddamnit it was worth the drive.
