  1. DesertNomad and I are going to head out to Lake Georgetown this Thursday, August 30th, to try and clear the remaining trees that are down between Cedar Breaks and Crockett Springs.  We'll leave the Cedar Breaks trailhead at 8am on bikes, and keep riding west until we start hitting downed trees.  We'll be using hand saws to clear any obstructions.  Please join us if you can!

Bring work gloves and saws if you have them, but we should have some extra saws that will fit in a pack.  Make sure you bring plenty of water, as there will be no place to get water between Cedar Breaks and Crockett Springs.  We'll be returning after we reach Crockett Springs (which is a bit over two miles in, so not that far, especially on bikes).

Here's a map showing the location of the Cedar Breaks trailhead:

Just cleared the 1st mile from cedar breaks. Tough going with just a handsaw  but progress was made. There's still a lot of trees down going to Crockett Garden past the 1 mile point.

Awesome, thanks for getting out there in this heat!  I can't even imagine clearing what we did yesterday without the chainsaws, so mad props to you for tackling it with a handsaw by yourself.  I've let others know that there are still trees down between Cedar Breaks and Crockett.  Hopefully most of that can be taken care of this week.

What's the best way to demo a Yeti? I'd love to swing a leg over the SB100 and maybe this SB130. I've read that the SB100 has some great party geo in spite of the short travel.

I've never ridden a Yeti and am also interested in the answer to this question.

  4. Wow, 500 calories per hour!  I tend to be more on the minimalist side of things, maybe consuming 100 calories an hour, if that.  I did a 7 hour, 50 mile ride last week (mostly single track, but road as well, with about 1,900 feet of climbing) and consumed two 100 calorie gels, about 200 calories of electrolyte powder in my 100oz bladder, and a Gatorade I purchased at a gas station.  Including the Gatorade, went through about 170 ounces of liquid.  Started ride at 7:30am.  The cooler temperatures were nice while they lasted.  For longer, tougher rides such as the EB I would certainly eat more.

Yes if for no other reason than to get away from this heat.  I just got back from a week in Breck hitting the trails there, Keystone bike park and Colorado Springs and as soon as I got back was ready to turn the car around and go back.  Never should have moved away.

Yeah, getting away from the heat certainly is another good reason to get the hell out of this state in the summer.  😄  I've been riding almost exclusively in the mornings the past few months, which helps make it more bearable, but the humidity is something fierce sometimes in the morning.

  6. Some people were having problems uploading photos to posts, and I just made some changes that should fix that issue.  If you receive an error message while uploading a photo (or any attachment), please take a screenshot of the error and then send me a private message.  I can then investigate and work to solve the issue.

    Thanks!
