    1. What local Austin trail feature intimidates you but you still attempt it/ride it?
    2. What local Austin trail feature do you no longer ride and why?
    3. What's your favorite local Austin trail feature?

Double Down, though only ridden once. Want to be able to ride up the steps as well as I can ride down them.

City Park. Was just too torn up last time I was there. 1/4 Notch-deception reminds me of what it used to be like.

Riding through the tree and across the skinny at 1/4 Notch. Only messed it up once, but still happy when I make it across.

Will this be a N+1 bike or are you planning to use it as your primary do-all bike?

I'm in a little bit of the same boat in that I told myself that if this lift-service thing ever became a reality (surprise surprise!), then I'd actually seek out and own a 'big FS bike'.  I'm in no hurry, but I've been looking a bit.  But my objective is to have as big travel of bike as possible that could be pedaled up if needed.  I've always been a big-wheel fan so the Devinci Spartan (29) and the Ibis Ripmo have both strongly piqued my interest.  The good thing is that Wes down at Velorangutan does free demos.  So when I get closer, I think I could use the demos to guide my decision process.

My co-worker has a Devinci Django and really likes its.  Then this Bible Bike video really got my attention.

Looked at these when I was searching last year. Ended up with YT Jeffsy 29 CF. Couldn't beat price/performance ratio compared to others. Wanted something to replace Yeti 575, something that could climb ok, but with enough squish going down. Current era suspension is SO much nicer than what I replaced.

yeti sb5.5 (best at rough climbing vs most other bikes)
    devinci django
    yt jeffsy
    transition smuggler gx carbon
    marin wolf ridge
    norco sight c2 29

It's really cool.  You gotta hit it soon.  I know I missed some of it when I rode it last weekend, but what I hit was fun, and there are some features back there.  I want to go with some trashbags though to pick up all the fast food trash right behind the shops though.

Firestone seems to be leaving shit there as well. Saw a tire back in the shrubs (walked to check for creek; heard running water there somewhere.

  4. Maybe not related, but close enough. Anyone doing trailwork next to redhorn? That chainsaw is kind of annoying, can you do it later? Saw a guy cutting close to ground at various spots. I believe this trail is called Suburban Ninja( great beer, btw).

There is already a steep road to the top. If you go to the website and look at the map it says bike/hike up or something. It is pretty challenging as everyone who did the race had to go up it like 6 times that day. So the option is there if you don't want to take the lift.

Challenging and INTERESTING. switchbacks, ledges, etc. A nice interesting, challenging climb with some technical features. Roads on a mtb are dumb.

    38t chainring

    28t cog

    32t cog as 2nd chainring

Looks like maybe standard 11-25 or 12-27 cassette

There is no reason for that complexity.  By my calculations (coffee still fully not kicked in) that gives them final ratio of 1.61 (assuming 27t cog) to 3.94 (assuming 11t cog).

A road triple 53/39/30 would give them a bigger range.

Shoot, even a compact 50/34 would be better.

2nd upper chainring has a derailleur, as does the actual crank/chainrings. The only "non-moving" chainring would be the upper to the back wheel (needs to stay where it is or interfere with adjustable chain. So you'd have (guessing) a possible 42 or 34 at crank, possible 12-28 upper gearing and say 12-32 on back wheel. At top end you'd have 42:12:12 ratio and at bottom 34:28:32.  I'd say a bit more than just a normal trippel (final gear speed, anyway)

  7. OK, the Ride like a girl video has 6 (now) likes. WTF? That was a great vid! You douchenozzles can't like a video?

Also, RidingAgain, I've taken the attitude towards you from others with a grain of salt (or less), but dude, you totally come off a bit dickish to the post about the ARR vids.  You posted about a local group that put out a great video on Florida riding, but then bash when someone mentions the same thing going on here.  Not cool.

  8. That story was...meh.

TLDR: "Hey, I started niner bikes and I built an internally geared bike. In Portland, OR."

Now, if it had included something about the development, maybe some notes on actual performance or gear range, testimony from riders comparing it to modern systems from the big S's. Now that'd be a story worth reading.

I mean, it's Helvetica. How do you screw that up??

This is what graphic designers do for fun... Kerning Game

78/100! would've been much better, but on one of the early ones, was thinking subsequent letters were not supposed to infringe on previous letters vertical space. That got me a 19/100...rest were a bit better.

  10. Switched to flats for 2 months after reading Flat Pedal Manifesto someone posted a while back. About 10 rides in and I had learned to use them more effectively, mostly by riding 1/4 Notch a lot. I suppose some of handling skills improved, but never had too much issue there to begin with. Switched back to spds a couple weeks ago (I'll put the flats on another bike for learning to bunny hop.) ONE thing I gained a lot of is small scars around my lower calves/ankles. Got about 9 new, small scars where the pins left their mark.
