I cringe when I see the kids with the portable games that are as immersive as they are though. I spend too much time looking down at my phone as it is, but kids with bent necks from a young age who never look up and engage the world around them is pretty grim. I don't have kids, but I have a hard time holding my tongue around parents who spend thousands of dollars on video games for their kids that remove them from reality, not just at home, but everywhere they go. that's going to come back to bite us all one day- socially, medically, emotionally.

Totally agree here. The midlife crisis these 20 somethings and kids experience will be off the f@cking charts.

Hopefully moving past the non-related stuff... Came across this video and though not on pedal size, it does speak about foot placement, and I wonder how larger pedals would affect it...

With all due respect, why don't you stop wondering and try it for yourself?

Honestly I struggle with this but times are changing and that's just the reality of things. Basically this question comes down to parenting.

If you told your kid today to get outside and play, what would they actually be allowed to do?

There's a lot of truth to that. See a kid out by themselves, and first thing you think is something is wrong. If you're a parent you worry about about being judged or worse yet, reported for sending them out into the wild (which they need). Sad thing is, the streets are WAY safer than they were when we were kids, yet everyone is so terrified of the outside world. Bizarre.

On the MTB topic, both my kids were in NICA and the biggest challenge to mountain biking was extracurricular / after school activities. Football marching band is a f@cking cult in texas and devours all of your free time. Thankfully, my oldest quit band after she realized she was getting nothing out of it and doubled down on academics.

  4. Should probably start with the parents first

We have teenage girls so gaming is not an issue and for the most part, neither is social media. It's a complete anomaly and I give my wife full credit for that. We do have issues with binge watching of Netflix. Over the summer, I'd leave for work and come home and theyre still on the couch watching TV in the same f@cking clothes. Keep in mind we just moved to a house with a full country club, gym, pool, restaurant, etc. They could hang out at the  the pool and order cheeseburgers on our tab. Nope, still on the couch. As chief said, all I wanted to do was run the streets as a kid and look for kicks. Now, kids just want to live vicariously.

That was until I put the router on a timer 🤣

The area is "meh" in regards to the riding. A lot of it is just gravel grinding. BUT, the scenery more than makes up for that fact, so it is indeed a great location.

This was our experience as well. For us, it was just cool to get off the grid and go ride. Most of the trails like fresno were really basic singletrack with some steep, punchy climbs and a smattering of soft sand to keep the heart rates up. Don't forget to check out the abandoned quicksilver mine when your out there. Lajitas was a lot more fun to ride than the state park area plus had a cool canyon section towards the back end. We had good weather as we stayed around the xmas break and dodged all the heat. TV, internet, chaos and traffic were replaced with eclectic people & places, vast expanses and holy sh*t, beautiful starry nights. We also took a drive up to the basin and were blown away by the amount of tree growth and especially the aspen trees growing this far south.

Definitely recommend for a much needed getaway.

There ya go... Your related experience answered your question.

Yes, take this an example of answering questions in real life. I was interested in PI pedals, tried a set and bought something else. No FB required.

Again, what was your question? What is motivating you to ask this (question)? Your original post was at a minimum ambiguous.

    *Do you have foot pain?

*Are you trying to alleviate your pain by purchasing large platform pedals?

*Are your cheapo pedals having issues?

    *Do you have hobbit feet?

Fuck off ATXZJ... I don't (edited out) answer to you, (edited out).

"And that my good friends... Is how it's done."

    Now back to your copy/paste/post

Exactly what question were you asking or what discussion were you initiating with this;  "For $99 that is... Or so they say..."?

Yes, I have heard of PI, looked into them, played around on a set at a NICA event and decided to pass. They were in my opinion too large and heavy for whatever advantage they may have offered over a traditional platform.  I and a few of my buddies use DMR vaults as they are a larger platform, with a shallow concave and reasonably light for the cost.

    I know, that's making me twitch.  Also, it's it's, not its.  😄

touche' ...that's what i get for being lazy

I ride/rode both. It's just something you get used to as there's a benefit  to each of them. I had to use SPDs on my cross bike as it spent most of it's time trying to kill me, and being clipped in was the only way to keep my feet on the pedals on a full rigid bike at speed. I can totally see why professional DH racers are clipped in, and its certainly not for pedal efficiency.

Already have two sets of nice flat pedals... One set of Chesters, and the other I can remember the brand.

Just waiting for the price to drop on shoes.

so why post an article on something you have no intention of buying? Its also pedal, not peddle.

  10. Mojo was a ghost town before the bots took over, so nothing new if this site is slow at times. Objectively, the only real activity on the mojo was when there was some sort of fighting with either bartman or riding again. That's not a MTB forum, its the comment section on TMZ.

There's plenty of sites out there to insult one another in anonymity.

My RF carbon cranks had a noticeable tick to it on one of the downstrokes; this was on a 3 week old Pivot Switchblade. I must have disassembled the cranks and chainring interface 3x looking for the tick. Rode through the summer, two weeks at Angelfire, and the subsequent weekend the crank arm finally gave up on my first run at the Flat Creek Enduro. Non-catastrophic failure in the end, but I should have not ignored the 5 month warning.

That sucks man. ive heard thats somewhat common on some RF cranks.

  12. Wife and i did a turn and burn to Chattanooga over thanksgiving last year and really enjoyed the trip. The trails were very well designed and maintained and offered a little something for everyone. Raccoon mountain recreational area was blast. Fast flow trails with berms, drops and all the good stuff to put a smile on your face. Theres also some fun trails to ride about 30-45 min away in Georgia, and if you're channeling your inner Seth, Winrock is about 2hrs away.  Downtown Chattanooga was clean, quiet and surprisingly modern with lots of friendly people and good food & booze to go around. Liquor stores have a taproom and can pour!  Lastly, if you can, stay in the Read House historic hotel as it been renovated and had many famous quests and apparently also has a haunted room.

Don't know yet! Just got home from a week-long vacation and had to dive into work. I can't take another whole week off this year, so I am looking for what I can do on a short-term trip. I'll tally up all these options. Hopefully this thread is useful for people who want other options as well.

It sounds like a trip to the west end of the state might not be worthwhile if I have to spend two out of my three days just driving. I might look for something a little closer in Hill Country until I can find a way to do a whole week getaway. My priority is to find something with a great camping setting, and something that will challenge me to ride. My wife is going to be bored if we go somewhere and I spend the whole time out riding.

PD State park for the win then. Theres lots of camping, hiking museum and wildlife and a stream down in there. Super cool place.
