  1. 2017 Private Jake asking $1700. Frame is a 51cm, top tube is 53.5cm, 42cm handle bars. Full SRAM Rival 11 speed with cable actuated hydraulic discs TRP HD/RD. FSA carbon seat post, wheels are set up tubeless. Aluminum frame w/carbon fork and sliding dropouts. This would make a great bike packing bike, it has mounts front and rear for bags. Bike shows like new no damage anywhere. More pics available for anyone interested. PM me.

I have a 29'er On-One Singlespeed, and I haven't ridden it in a while because one or two parts on the back of the bike that keeps the rear wheel in place will slip while I'm riding, resulting in the tire rubbing against the chain.  Here's the part I'm talking about:

    OnOne_SS_Chain_Thing.thumb.jpg.bf9a3d96e6ba52bee4bfb904ff5fc40e.jpg

It's the black part with the two bolts and a screw on the end, and there's one on each side.  I have no idea waht this part is called.  I've tried adjusting this myself, but invariably after a while it slips again.  I've even had at least one shop also adjust these, and even then at least one of them comes undone over time.  Seems like a poor design to me.  Is there anyone familiar with this design and how to properly secure it to prevent any play in the wheel at all?

    Thank you!

Have you tried a couple of lock washers under those bolts?

Since it's time to replace my SRAM 11-speed cassette, I'm once again considering drivetrain options. One thing I'm trying to factor in is the useful life of derailleurs and shifters. I'm sure there are many variables, but I've been using the same XX1 setup since 2016. The clutch failed once after a year or so, and SRAM replaced the derailleur under warranty. Everything has worked flawlessly since then. A shop guy told me that once you get past 3-4 years of heavy use on a derailleur, you've gotten your money's worth. If that is true, then I'm running on borrowed time. What's been your experience with useful life on shifters / derailleurs?

In terms of options for upgrading to 12-spd, I'm seeing a lot of good reviews on the XT 12-spd setup (mechanical). Anybody had experience with both SRAM and Shimano 12-spd? I rode a buddy's GX AXS 12-spd and honestly wasn't that impressed. To me there was an ever-so-slight delay between pushing the button and getting a shift, whereas on my XX1, the shifting is instantaneous and incredibly smooth. I haven't completely ruled out wireless shifting, but based on my one experience, I'm not sold. In fairness, I've only tried it on pavement.

You're welcome to come take my rig for a spin if you want. XT 12 speed 10-45 with a 32T oval ring up front. Shimano doesn't shift as buttery smooth as Sram, it has a more mechanical feel and action. 12 speed doesn't really make much of a difference for MTB not like for road bikes where being able to keep a consistent cadence is important, 12 speed has a closer ratio between gears allowing you to find the right gear more often and keep your cadence steady. I think 12 speed is a good choice for people who ride a lot of flat land trails where you can spin and like to keep your cadence consistent. Now if you were to go with XT my recommendation would be to go with an XT derailleur and an SLX shifter. My personal opinion is that the SLX shifter feels much smoother more like Sram than the XT shifter does. Is your bike having any shifting issues? If not I would think that the derailleur is still good although I do know that Sram has a tendency to wear out quicker than Shimano mostly at the pivot points which typically leads to poor shifting that adjusting just won't correct. As far as initial cost and cost later down the road for wearable items Shimano wins with Sram being $300-500 for a replacement cassette is just absurd, if weight is a major concern then Sram would be a better choice Sram is typically lighter than Shimano. like I said you can come grab my bike and see how you like it.

My old 2014 Evolution Series fork came back from Fox as unrepairable. Looks like I'll have to find a non-boost replacement. Seems there were some recommendations for cheapish replacements on another thread from last year, but is it still reasonable to purchase a non-boost fork? The other option would be to replace it with a boost fork and use one of those boost wheel adapters. Any thoughts?

If the damn thing still moves up and down, I might just put it back on the bike and keep riding it. It's on my backup bike and I really don't want to spend a lot of money on it.

Did they explain as to why it's unrepairable?

  5. She looks pretty worn. If you grab the chain at the front of the ring and pull it away from the chainring you'll be able to get an idea of how worn it is. The chain should stay tight to the ring if you're able to see a gap between the chain and the ring it's probably time for a new one. You should also consider a new chain and cassette especially if it's really worn. On my last bike it was time for a new chain so when I installed the new chain I quickly realized that the chainring was toast. A worn chainring will try to suck a new chain up the backside of the ring. So I preceded to change the chainring only to find out my cassette was toast also as the new chain was trying to skip when pedaled.

  6. I have the same truck only not the crew cab. I like mine a lot but there are some things that I really don't like especially the stupid Sync system. Mine had a front camera issue at five months old and it took like three months to be able to get it looked at. I will say it's impressive how well the truck goes with the four cylinder engine.

why is it that I can source small parts for several generations of Campagnolo, but the two S'es can't do that?

I don't think the newer Campy stuff is as serviceable as the older stuff was. I've rebuilt Campy shifters many times. The other great thing about the older Campy shifters is that you can change how many gears you want just by changing out the carrier gear.

  8. I've been using 3M 8896 for years with no issues. I think it's like $9 a roll, a roll will do maybe 20 wheels. The rim needs to be clean and dry and like others have said about applying tape you need to keep tension on it to get a good seal. I do two wraps to cover entire rim bed.

  9. OK, let me start by stating I am not anti vax I have been vaccinated. I have also had the virus, Delta strain. I'd also like to say that you do whatever you feel is best for you. But this is information that the mainstream sources have not really promoted. If you watch the video you will see how certain points are omitted and how the main goal is for people to get boosters. Meanwhile there are medical experts that have different opinions. Just some food for thought. So in this The NY Times is stating that boosters may have negative effect on your immune system in one statement but then in another they say go get the booster. This is why I have no faith in the mainstream media or the information that we are being fed. We need to get information from sources that have no dog in the fight. Granted Jimmy can be polarizing and his YouTube channel is how he makes money, but you can't argue with Dr. Campbell his channel is not monetized so he has no agenda aside from educating people with valid information.

  10. Unfortunately all of the protocols don't seem to be helping much. The reality is we will all get covid at some point whether unvaccinated, vaccinated or boosted. Me personally am done with all of the BS that has been associated with this mess. The virus is obviously going to have its way with us. The upside is that it seems to be getting weaker as far as symptoms and complications go. If this is the case @barry might be onto something. What happened to "the vaccine will get us to herd immunity"🤣. What a joke.

At my wits end with the PT at BSW. I'm going to get in touch with Airrosti on Brodie next week.

Thanks guys for all the guidance.

About time you came to your senses😂. Good luck hope it helps. It should because it appears they address what other chiropractors don't, which is soft tissue manipulation (not the kind you're thinking of)😂.

Possibly, and I was in the auto industry during that transition to efi and it had to happen to meet emissions and MPG requirements. This e-bike situation is not even close.

Totally agree on devices that are supposed to enhance our lives, just ends up in utter frustration instead. We are 7 mos away from being empty nesters and have no desire or the patience to babysit or coddle some underdeveloped, overhyped, plastic piece of shit.

    Hard pass

    Yeah....but self driving cars...
