  1. Definitely sounds like time to see a specialist, like a spine guy (or woman).  They can do electrical conduction test or other tests/scans to see where the problem is originating, or perhaps there's an underlying condition and your injury tapped into it.

My guy is Eduardo Elizando at Center for Healing and Integrative Medicine, but there are a zillion ortho/spine folks here in Austin, so maybe look for a sports oriented spine person.

  2. Sept. 28:  Winter is coming...raining and blustery in the 78758/Walnut Creek Metro Park area.

It's now a bit after 9 pm. I don't have the sound on but  Chikage Windler (KEYE Chief Meteorologist) is pointing and gesturing at the weather map with a lot of red, and now Crusty has flipped the station over to Scott Fisher who is ALSO pointing to a lot of orange/red on the screen.

Cracked up when I saw this lady in Seattle. Didn’t know they made specific packs for it. Corgi was chill checking out the sites.

I do a social ride on the Southern Walnut Creek Multi-Use Path on Tuesday mornings.   Last fall we were on the section just before the path crosses Jain Lane and I realized a Corgi was peeking over the shoulder of a cyclist heading towards us. She had to have some kind of dog specific pack for it.  Their legs are short but there's a fair amount of heft involved.

Completely non-bike injury but bike related outcome. Wife was diagnosed with shingles a little over a week ago and has been on meds for almost week.

Dang, that's no fun. I hope her recovery continues to go smoothly.

Being aged, I've had the regular shingles vax plus the super effective Shingrix 2-shot dealio, so hope I'll avoid that fate.

Are you both able to get the Shingrix vaccine?  It's usually available at HEB.

Had a feral hog run across the trail in front of me and my 4 yr old at behren's ranch this morning. My son turned around a said "Dad did you see that Bear!

In the past there have been feral hog signs (dirt rooted up) along the margins of the Southern Walnut Creek Multi-Use Path.  Lots of deer about, but I haven't recently seen, or heard of anyone seeing, hogs.  Running into one would be a disaster, though; they're solid.

  6. Report on Reveille yesterday (Monday, Aug 16, 2021) on facebook. (Not me, just sharing.)

First time riding Reveille in 2 months, I have to report back that the trails are in great shape, spoke to the owner and he tells me that he hired someone full time to maintain and work on the trails. As I was riding I noticed it right away, a lot of trail has been cleared. I am so glad the concerns were heard and we hope to meet the trail keeper so we can offer a work day to help out too.

This is why I was asking if anyone is using Picaridin.  My wife has started using it.  It doesn't irritate and it also doesn't damage synthetic fibers or plastics...It's supposed to be at least as effective as Deet.

    What product does she use?

  8. Start: October 23, 2021 6:00 am

The DangerBird 350 takes place in the mountains near Las Cruces. It’s a [free!] bikepacking event to support cycling within the Organ Mountains - Desert Peaks National Monument and follows the Monumental Loop route.  You just need to email the organizer to sign up.

The 2021 reroutes that make the loop more fun and less sufferfest-y are discussed in the Monumental Loop link.

The DangerBird 350 blurs the line between a festival and an endurance bike race.

The standard route is 350 miles of solitude, sand, and green chile laden burritos winding through Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument. A few folks go fast. If that’s too much, or you insist on riding a gravel bike, we’ll happily provide alternatives.

The first New Mexico Bikepacking Summit: Origins and Connections (also free, free free free free free) will take place in Las Cruces the day before the event start, on Friday, October 22.

Glad you made it out of there safely. Things didn't work out so well for the last person I saw on a 2-wheeled vehicle at that spot...

That episode is when I parted ways with Breaking Bad...maybe at some point I'll go back and finish.

I finally learned the name of Todd actor Jesse Plemons (I've never watched Friday Night Lights)

I saw him shopping at Wheatsville one day during the Friday Night Lights era and was only vaguely aware of who he was.

Also visited the Kokopelli Bike & Board store.

We stopped in Dolores for two nights, before heading to Telluride to volunteer for the Telluride 100.

Kokopelli Bike and Board has just opened a store in Dolores at 315 Central Ave, across the street from Dolores River Brewery.  It's in an old brick building and they've created a beautiful, simple interior.  We went in last week and Scott bled my brakes. Then we went for a ride at the Boggy Draw Trail System above Dolores and John realized HE needed his brakes bled so back we went. Scott did a great job on both.  They have some fantastic Phil's World tee shirts, including a Jimi Hendrix/Phil's World tee.

Dolores/SWCCA (SW Colorado Cycling Assoc.) has created a trail from town up to the top of the mesa (parallel to County Rd. 31) so one can now ride from town up to Boggy Draw trailhead.

I was looking at the big map at the trailhead kiosk and realized the trail system is two to three times bigger than I'd realized.  Lots of miles of trail to explore.  We usually just ride Maverick and Italian Canyon, mostly flowy and mellow.  Also possible to do a huge loop, riding the canyon rim above McPhee Reservoir, coming out at the old cemetery just above Dolores.

There's a small pond near the Boggy Draw trail head, which is a great spot to base camp in the Ponderosa pines and ride when it's too hot for Phil's World, which is about 1,200 feet lower in elevation.
