  1. Thanks everyone for sharing your experience.

i am now 8 days post symptoms. will wait two more days before trying to ride. i was outside most of the afternoon cutting limbs. my heartrate seems to shoot up easily; a fluttery feeling. not something i'm used to. Still kind of tired, want too sleep more than typical. i am going to ease back into riding. i'm not in a rush, and don't want to risk stressing my systems too much.

this is definitely an atypical recovery for me. after a cold, i'm usually out running or biking the next day trying to shake it.

  2. Not a lot of data out there. Found this GMBN video very helpful, basically they recommend 10 days of rest after symptoms are gone.

I am currently recovering from a mild case, and have a growing concern that my lungs will never be the same. i breezed through the illness, so i assumed a full recovery. Now 4 days after symptoms are gone, i can still feel a shortness of breathe lingering. of course, this freezing, dry climate is not helping the situation.

anyone else have experience after a mild case? or recommendations on rest?

The original wheel is Ibis S35 w/Ibis hubs.  I am currently running Industry 9 1/1 with Enduro S hoops.  The carbon hoops on my HT was Bontrager Line Pro.

Going to FS has pretty much eliminated pinch flat issues I had with the HT, but I've been frustrated by how unreliable my rear wheel has been.  Perhaps they were both poorly built from the get go as Mattlikesbikes has suggested.

In my experience, when running tubeless, Carbon rims are notorious for pinch flats on the rear. I have never had a tubeless pinch flat on an alloy rim. (although i'm sure its possible)

Personally, i solved this issue by going to Maxxis DD casing in the rear and keeping my pressure up. But, i wouldn't assume the change from HT to FS made much difference regarding pinch flats.

What's a Theckla?  i goggled it. not aware of anything in this area. i will drive by just to confirm.

There is nothing here. No pump track, no park. just a bit of empty lot behind dart bowl.

i did a 'suggest an edit' on the google page to remove.

  5. seems like a manufacturing defect. manufacturer should replace for free.

Most manufacturers have a 'crash replacement' program where it costs $300-400 to replace the rim.

I think the major exception is Santa Cruz Reserve, which will cover any damage for free.

I'm just a trail runner and come here just for trail info and to ask the occasional "How annoying are we trail runners when you guys are trying to zoom past" type questions. Here are some random inquiries, just wondering if these trails are hard or more like "meh...", or maybe not for bikes at all or what. (I don't know all the mtb jargon and trail names, so please forgive my newb sounding questions)

+I see bikers sometimes at the Valburn trails, but I never see any on the Bull Creek Greenbelt itself. Does anyone actually ride that? There're three or four sections that seem to me, a trail runner, would be almost impossible to get past on a bike, due to stuff like downed trees, 90degree vertical drops/climbs, super slippery rocks, extreme skinniness of trail flanked by ledges and/or extreme;y thick foliage on either side, etc.
+What about Forest Ridge Preserve/Balconies Preserve? Either way you go from the Bull Creek parking lot, you gain lots of elevation rather quick, with some rather large "step ups" (for runners at least).
+I've also never, ever seen any bikes at the River Place Natural Trail. It's entirely plausible that I've just missed the signs that say "no bikes" or "walkers, runners only".
+To my knowledge, almost everyone comes at Mt Lakeway from the north, through Canyonlands. But there are actual mtb-specific trails (not trying to sound as if I'm telling y'all something y'all don't know) on the south side, and the climb from the southside is, I think, longer an with more switchbacks. Is the southside pretty difficult for MTBers compared to the north side?

Forgive me if all this questioning is annoying, thx for anyone who gives their thoughts 🙂

Regarding Bull Creek Greenbelt, its good to ride, but not alot of people do. i think because its not that interesting, unless you link it up to surrounding trails. I've been avoiding it personally during the pandemic, because of foot traffic.

No bikes in Balcones Preserve. (although for the first time i saw two people biking there this weekend on gravel rigs)

No bikes at Riverplace, its hiking only

at mt lakeway, i ride the north side and the southside.

Hi bikers, I am new to the site, had a question that didn't seem to warrant a new thread so I piled onto this one.  Just got back into riding after 20 yrs with a new bike with all the trimmings (pads, gloves, etc).  I was wondering if anyone could advise on trails/riding experience on Miller Springs Nature Center (Temple) and the Fort Hood trails (BLORA).  Since I am getting back into this, I am not ready yet for black or black diamonds, mostly green-ish, greenish-blue and blue.  Spider mtn is on my radar but not yet.

    Thanks,  Rider side up.

Having ridden on 12-speed (SRAM) for almost a year now, I still feel that the old Shimano 10-speed was smoother and sturdier. It always feels like the SRAM cassette is too frail. Maybe it is the sound, maybe it is the engagement.

Maybe the key is just to try the new Shimano stuff. I have not ridden Shimano 11 or 12 speed, but all the reviewers seem to gush over the new hyperglide stuff.

my only experience is with road bikes, where I very much prefer the feel of Shimano shifting.

  9. i've always liked BSS, And have had only good experiences with service at the Research branch. Have also rented from the downtown location, and that's a nice big store where Trek can clearly setup shop. wouldn't be suprised to see them sell off the other locations, but who knows.

I wonder what will happen to the BSS team? any news Antonio?

  10. Regarding progression, looks like they are opening a trail specifically for this. Pretty cool:

You asked for it — you got it! Centipede is our newest trail at Spider Mountain, opening Saturday, December 19. Centipede is a fantastic way to progress a beginner rider from green to blue, but terrific fun for anyone. The trail starts halfway down the mountain between Tarantula and Viper's Den and has incredible flow, drops, and rollers. We can't wait for you to try it out.

    • Thanks 1
  11. the runs are quite short, except for the green trail, so i find you're actually spending more time on the lift then riding. So i can ride all day no problem. the runs are fun, and there is plenty of stuff to challenge you, but i'm not sure i would qualify the trails as progressive in the same way you see at other bike parks.
