I have thought about getting my wife an urban bike so that we could ride together. She does not ride at my speed and does not like hills. That could solve some problems on the urban side, but on the trail it seems like a lot of extra weight for the marginal gain. Of course I could just ride slower, but that does not ever work out right.

have you ridden an emtb? the gain is not marginal. she will be faster than you, pretty much guaranteed.

  2. we did a month in a airbnb in durango last summer. most important things were just the basic tools for bike maintenance, pumps, extra tubes, sealant, everyone's helments, and water packs, and few backups like pedals, tires, brake pads.

i brought the bike work stands, but i would say its optional.

other stuff like fishing gear and rafting gear we brought were unnecessary.

we also brought piano and guitar so my kids could continue with lessons remote. and some workbooks and art supplies etc (we homeschool). ipads are a must.

making sure your work setup is good and getting a place with good internet was very important to me, and hard to find, as alot of places are remote cabins with basically dial up internet.

    Dude, enjoy the trip!

diagonal cutters. squeeze the cable end in the blades until they crimp, but does not cut all the way through. crimp two diagonal lines, then a diagonal one connecting them like Zorro!

Hey, this actually worked really well, thanks for the tip!

i did have to do a few test ones to find the right amount of force. but really happy that my cable ends are now 'pretty'.

Is there a map of SN anywhere online?  I've only ridden it once and didn't really know where I was going or didn't know if there was a general flow and direction that everyone tends to follow like at Walnut Creek.  Are the trails there bidirectional?  I was also hoping to find the best way through to Brushy and to the Christ Church features.

i am not aware of a good map, you can look at my strava,

in general if you follow the creek, you'll end up at the cul-de-sac, then you can ride Walsh Hill Trail over the BCRT. there's a little tunnel under Brushy Creek Road:

the trails around the church are confusing, you just kinda have to get lost out there, the jump line is pretty much right (a couple hundred feet) behind the church.

    Reimers is officially open.

"Travis County Parks has opened the new Reimers Ranch Flow Trails to public use, as of this afternoon.   Bikers who use the Flow Trails should park in the regular Mountain Biking Parking Lot and bike over to the Flow Trails."

thanks for the update! can't wait to try it out.

  6. regarding technique, go to youtube, watch the videos, then go out and practice in gravel or dirt parking lot. when you get your weight over the front wheel, push the bars and engage the side knobs, it feels 'right'. this is only gonna happen on longer, sweeping turns.

also, just wanted to add, a little bit of braking isn't always a bad thing, try to brake before the corner, and not so much hitting the brakes, but making sure to just feather them a little, usually that's all that's needed to get your speed in check.

  7. unfortunatly, i think this is just life with droppers. they all fail eventually, and since the prices have come down, its not really worth rebuilding. I will say, i use my dropper more than i would guess most do. If i'm out of the saddle, its down. i cycle it at least 40 times per ride.

I just bought a 170mm PNW Bachelor and am happy so far.

had a pretty poor experience with a brand new KS Lev. eventually they replaced it, but i sold that bike.

I have gone through a couple Reverbs, i do actually like the return and feel of the Reverb best so far, and this last one has been working great for over two years. a bleed and adding air can do wonders on the reverbs.

also had a first gen oneup that i got on a used bike, it never worked that great. It feels very similar to the Bachelor.

  8. So, with the recent thread on Bandera BP closing, i went to Seth's facebook page: Victory Racing to see if he commented. And saw this heartbreaking story. I felt compelled to contribute. Wanted to share.

On the evening of April 8th, Michael Likins was out doing one of the things he loved to do most - ride his bike. While waiting at a stop sign he was struck by a car. Michael was Life Flighted to Memorial Herman Downtown Houston and suffered several severe injuries.
