Overlook? The gate is locked and there’s a sign posted. I saw it as I drove by. Best bet is to park outside cedar breaks.

I typically park at Cedar Breaks. there are a bunch of parking spots that are outside of the actual entrance gate.

Wondering in another thread but there are folks here so......is LGT closed or open for Easter weekend? Fed land inside Wilco. Who will win? Thanks

As far as i can tell, the trail is open? All the individual parks are closed, but you should still be able to park by the damn. Maybe try and call.

I’m suspect anyone actually rides there. Wonder how long multiple trees have been across the trail; Have been the times I’ve hiked . . errr, ridden there (with the exception of just before EB when some awesome people clear them).

People definitely ride thumper. but i would say its the least popular trail around here, which is a bit of a shame, because the location is great and so is the terrain. but it is an intimidating and confusing trail. My understanding is that the original trail builders didn't intend for this to be a heavy traffic trail?

If you can let me know the general area of the (worst) fallen tree(s), I may be able to take a hike out there with my teen boys and clear some of them up once the weather drys out.  All I'm looking for is early, mid, later portion of trail?  Or if you can give location(s) based on major trail features: after the 1st water crossing, near the broken swingset, etc...

    Thanks

my memory has faded over the weekend, but pretty sure two trees were down on the early portion of the trail. i think one before 'the summit' and one  when you're headed back from that direction. and then there is a giant tree split in three at the very end (bottom of the climb out), that has been there for a while.

Already tried, they will give me a nice discount on a new carbon bike, which I may take advantage of, but they have none of the high-end Specialized bikes available for demo or rental.  Not even a single Epic across their entire chain.  Which sucks--who wants to buy a $5,000+ bike without riding it first?  And I don't mean just tooling around in the stupid parking lot.

Oh, it was the rear triangle that cracked, right where it joins the carbon frame (rear triangle for this year was aluminum, the year after they went to carbon for the rear triangle as well).  Specialized says they don't even have those rear triangles, even if they would warranty it.  So that bike is basically SOL.  I can part it out at some point, I guess.

     ..Al

is the crack on a weld or flat part? or is it around the pivot points?

what year/size? have you looked at used frames on pink bike?

  6. Rode Thumper today, 4/2. Not alot of traffic as usual. There are 5 large trees down. One is on one of the faster gullies. It is on the uphill side, so its easy to brake in time, but it did catch me off guard.

Besides that trail was great, not as many leaves as i was expecting.

So Pedernales is officially closed. They have actually put physical barriers blocking trailheads. Does anyone know if people are still riding / hiking out there? It's a class C misdemeanor I think, to be in a closed area of a state park. But maybe they won't enforce it? Any ideas for similar good trails around here? I rode the so-called "ATX" trails a couple of days ago, not nearly as fun.

Please don't ride the state parks, even though its easy to sneak in. We need to respect the closure.

https://flatcreekcrossingranch.com/ is right next door and has great trails. though not as many miles at Perd. I would call to make sure they are currently open.

lakewood has some really fun trails.

Reimers Ranch is decently fun. looks like its still open.

On my practice today, I finally looped out.  Thankfully today I decided to do it on my backyard where it was a nice soft fall.  It was weird because even though I practiced using the rear brake, and I'm finding the balance point, as I was looping back, my instinct wasn't to unclip or use the brake, I was trying to use my body to balance and I failed.   No true advance since yesterday, just more practice.  I forgot to watch today's video.

Glad you got that out of the way. just keep those brakes covered.

I also practiced today, but it was kinda lazy. no breakthroughs. 5 days in a row though.

  9. just went out for a quick 5 minute practice. that's 4 days in a row!

feeling more confident in general, probably got 10 pedal strokes in. i noticed the reason i don't really use my brake much, if i feel my weight getting too far back, i'm naturally leaning forward to counteract. i keep my arms straight the whole time, so it more like i'm leaning into my shoulders. i guess keep your arms out straight in front of you, and them move them back and forward by using the shoulders without bending your elbow. not a big movement, but enough to counteract the weight.

*just realized its silly for me to try and explain this, its something your body's just gotta figure out itself. it's all muscle memory. at the same time, it is pretty cool to feel it happening.

  10. Practiced a bit again today. Got one or two more pedal strokes on my best try. My body feels like its trying to figure out the side-to-side stability while pedaling.

I just ride on the street and clipped in. For some reason, i'm not scared of looping out, it all seems very controlled. I do prefer practicing on a slight incline.
