What does the bike setup process look like once it arrives to my door?
If I buy online, can I assemble myself with only basic tools and basic knowledge
or do I buy online and then take it into a shop for a tuning?

There are videos online but here are a few much less useful pictures of an eBay bike I assembled this year.

I had to mount bars, front wheel, seat post & pedals. Put some air the shock and convert to tubeless. The only troubleshooting I had to do was center the rear brakes for a little rubbing. My eBay seller packed instructions that I ignored. All I remember needing to use were clippers to get the zip ties off and a torque wrench.

    Do your business outside.

Not sure how this helps but I tried. Wifi reception was terrible and my laptop got wet. View was better than a cubicle. 6/10 overall.

I could list all of the amazing games we had all the way to Gran Turismo and eventually Grand Theft Auto through college.

    Are you me?

These two things are what it comes down to. Shut-ins will always be shut-ins, and parents need to grow a pair and  tell their kids  when to take a break.

    Truth brother.

Summer break for us was building and riding trails in the woods until it got hotter than we could stand. Shark Week was about the time of year we gave up and did more indoors stuff, like watching Shark Week or MTV when it was still a thing. I also knew every kid in the neighborhood and had a close group that was together 24/7.

I had more range than my kids have now. But the whole culture has changed. It's all about scheduled activities. Soccer practice, yoga, gymnastics, cooking classes... I wish I could tell them to go play outside but it's not where their friends are. Gotta send them to those after school camps. Only $90/wk. If I keep my kids at home and tell them to play outside they become the weird ones. For better or worse it's where we are.

  4. Nice. I wish I had found a used trainer at that price. I bought one new about 2 years ago as a Christmas present to myself. With work schedules, weather, and kids sometimes it just isn't possible to ride regularly. I end up riding as much on the trainer as IRL. OTOH I more than doubled the "miles" ridden per year.

I tried Zwift and Bkool when I first started. Bkool had a lot of problems so I settled on Zwift. Never tried TrainerRoad because I don't like the idea of staring at numbers and charts. Most of my rides start by telling myself this will be a casual "recovery" ride. Inevitably I chase down everyone that passes me or blow up trying. I have no self control. That's kind of what I like about Zwift there is always someone to chase or someone behind you to try to beat to the next hill or whatever. Just staring at a screen showing watts for an hour... just doesn't sound as fun. No doubt structured workouts are better for sick gains though.

I bought a 2nd cassette for my road bike so it's as easy as changing a rear wheel when I want to use the trainer. No moving parts around. I'd recommend at least two fans. I like to have one in front aimed up at my torso and head and one in back pointed at my legs. I could use a third in the front.

I do not like erg mode. At least on the Tacx it seems like if you fall behind with your cadence it ramps up resistance really fast. I seem to yo-yo above and below the number I'm supposed to be holding more in erg mode than not. Seems backwards to what it should be but maybe something I have is messed up. Like I said I don't mess with the training plans much.

  5. I drive there at least once a year. It's ~12 hours with stops.

Hustle and Flow is pretty cool. La Tierra and the Dale Ball trails are both near enough to town that you can ride to them if you are near the square. Dale Ball has more climbing. La Tierra has more flow.

I'd also recommend the Galisteo Basin trails south of town especially if its snowing or cold uphill. It sits a bit lower than SF and has ~50 miles of trails.

I've only ever ridden up  the Windsor like some kind of dummy. Worst day of my life. Didn't even have the energy to ride down it, had to ride the road down. #fail
