  1. On the gravel section by Peddler's I saw a boy about 6-7 shredding along with the fork on backwards. I asked the man walking along behind if it was his son, he said yes but his English was not good enough to understand what I was trying to explain. I tried to use gestures but I'm not sure he got it. I'm sure that kid will think his bike handles a lot better if pops figures it out.

....and to a lesser degree the fork stanchions from dirt and debris.

Seemed kind of odd when bikes and motorcycles went away from fork boots. My first fork (Mag 21) had the accordion boots and later Lizard Skin covers, The upside down forks seemed like a step further in the wrong direction. I suppose the materials/coatings have hardened to the point it is not a major concern. Still seems kind of risky.

  3. I used Fontaine. I believe it is basically a one man operation, although two (helpers/contractors?) did the basic install and he did the tuning. I have called him before with an old A/C and since and it was always him I dealt with on those occasions. Pretty down to earth guy. My house is pretty small, so I didn't need a big system. Looks like a 3 ton 16 seer Goodman (which are fairly low end but supposed to decent these days) for right at $5000 complete with furnace.

And correct on the warranty. I don't believe he told me about registering and by the time I was looking through the paperwork some time later I noticed that caveat and did not double my warranty. That sucks.

  4. I'm the last guy you will see riding in the mud but they still seem like a good idea for the occasional puddle/creek crossing, etc.

Any recommendations? pretty much one size fits all? Not sure I have seen them locally, not that I have been inside a shop in the last few months.

I'm considering something very minimal like the Mucky Nutz. https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/equipment/cycling-accessories/bike-racks-fenders-locks/bike-fenders-accessories/bike-fenders/mucky-nutz-face-front-fender/p/24845/

Do these even do enough to make it worth it?

  5. I haven't scoped the new lines out much but are there going to be issues with lines crossing? I know some stuff is still being built, just wondering how much folks need to be on the lookout for someone else bombing down a different line and getting beaned.

The drop from the top of the bridge down to the beginning of Picnic X comes to mind. Not a fan of that intersection.

  6. One of the few times I have gone to HEB, some tool sat at the oranges for probably 5 minutes fondling them looking for the perfect one while he caught up with an old friend on his cell phone. No mask of course. I gave him some dirty looks but really wanted to tell him to pick out his chit and GTF out. Pretty much everyone else was being diligent.

Another thing, I don't get the gloves. You don't get it through your hands.  I think wearing gloves is liable to make people more relaxed.  If you touch an infected surface with gloves, then touch your mouth/nose/eyes, you'll still get it.

The people that are using them at stores or wherever, unless they're changing gloves between customers or after each order, it's a waste of gloves.

My guess is it creates a deterrent or reminder not to touch your face? Or once you leave and get in your car, your hands are clean?

I'm in NW Austin.  HEB at 183 and Spicewood SPrings is my HEB.  I just went there this week and saw a dad with a mask and his daughter with no mask.  A mom and kid with no mask, and several younger (millenials) people with no mask.  I don't think most people get what the purpose of the mask is.  Most people were wearing masks and were respectful of the distance.  But the one lady with her son (who kept asking about wearing a mask) was almost in your face doing it like she was trying to prove a point.  People suck.  This HEB is pretty diverse as far as the clientele, but my neighborhood is not.  It's basically 100% professionals of some type, lots of Asians and caucasian people.  In the neighborhood, lots of people walking, some with masks, and all of them cross the road or give you lots of room.  At work I have coworkers that seem pretty nonchalant about it, but they respect others and will wear their mask when around others.

Same HEB for me. Last time I was there I was shocked EVERYONE had a mask. That was several weeks ago.

So the lady with no mask was questioning people with masks why they were wearing one? I would be very pissed.

We are slowly starting our phased approach to returning to our office. We just moved into a new building with the dreaded open floor plan.80% of us are exactly 6 feet apart with walls only about chest high in between. The approach is currently that that is enough and masks only required when approached or away from your desk. Hopefully things start to clear up before I have to head back.

Awesome! I like the miniature Hammerhead jersey! Too bad he doesn't have a miniature Camelback! 😁

  10. They tried to have the entrance shut down years ago. I remember the City Council meetings. Council basically said if we shut it down, you will all just create your own private entrances. I quit parking there after that. I rarely drive there, but even when I did, I would park over by Westlake High and ride over. There was also talk of a new entrance in the area you speak of, but I don't recall exactly why it got shut down. As mentioned, that is all BCP land so they aren't exactly trying to increase accessibility or impervious cover. Really, the huge problematic crowds die down once the water dries up. It is really only swimmable for a fraction of weeks out of the year. More realistically, everything outside the main trail/HOL and VC could get fenced off (which has also been brought up). Some things don't need to be super accessible.
