People have the right to not get the vaccine. If they choose to go that route, they need to follow the rules for non-vaccinated people. That may mean that they can't enter certain facilities etc, but that is their choice.
They should be made to wear some sort of insignia, identifying them as .... wait, hang on.

I have nothing against it, but think it would just be uncomfortable to do so while riding.
Most .380s or derringers will fit in a standard top tube bag. Otherwise - this in a jersey pocket: https://www.kevinsconcealment.com/pages/pocket-holster-wallet-style

There was quite the discussion on the Houston Gravel Grinders FB page a few months ago, when some Cali-transplant posted up that he expected no one in his group rides to be carrying, and consequently discovered that half the people in his group rides were carrying, and he was welcome to piss off back to Cali.

Australia closed their borders, and appeared to be waiting it out. They seemed to be doing everything right, and I was *shocked* to find out about their extremely low numbers for vaccinations. I guess I just assumed that they would be among the leaders.
It's like a case study into the human pysche, although I suppose governments are involved as well. I don't actually know if rollout in Australia was slow, due to the low case count, or if vaccines have been available but few bothered to get them. I know some Aussies over there - I shall enquire.

I was astonished to learn the other week that only 3% of Australians have been fully vaccinated. Despite the apparent shitshow in the USA, and the wait times we all thought were a nuisance, other countries are far worse off - many of them developed nations.

I can only imagine that riding Thumper at this time of year must be like descending into Hades -- having said that, the downed trees in Thumper usually get cleared just prior to the EB. I'm not aware that much work goes on at other times - especially during mid-summer. However, if you are volunteering ....

Our local pool is shutdown as well. Repairs from the freeze supposedly.
The reason given - I believe - is a shortage of lifeguards, but at the same time we have people on Nextdoor saying their kids are lifeguards and haven't been offered the hours.

Good suggestion - Leslie is in fact my neighbor. What's your strategy for a mid-ride dip? Do you fully submerge and carry on in wet chammys?
I saw a thread on Nextdoor today about our local Rosedale pool not opening this summer, despite assurances that it would. PARD following along on their strategy that taxpayers actually wanting to use facilities they pay for is just too damned annoying. At this rate, we won't even need a Parks Dept.

Can confirm, tree is duckable but barely and not advised to do so on the seat/ pedals.
AJ is usually on top of things on SN, especially this close to the shop.
Guess I'm going to load a chainsaw next time I head up that way, and if it's still there, I'll see what I can do. It'll take more than one person, that's for sure - it's the entire trunk, not a branch.

<snip>For WC picnic tables, maybe reaching out to YOUR member but also Leslie Pool (CM 7). Ask about picnic benches out there. Also ask if there is a way to fundraise for them if that would help.

Have you ridden there before? Some of the stuff outside the park is actually pretty good. That juniper trail is as anti-fun as they come.
Back in the day, I put on a couple of races which started in Flat Creek and connected thru to Ped Falls - full laps of both. I bet my padlock is still on that gate which connects the properties 🙂

Tax dollars at work. Does this me we get to pay less?
I just wish the Director of PARD were an elected position, instead of the next COA lifer sitting out their days until pension, and making life easier for themselves by removing facilities and reducing the amount of time and money spent maintaining things.
I emailed the previous Director when she removed the picnic tables and trash cans from Walnut, and was told it was "for safety reasons". What utter bullshit!- 1

Sadly the shower is gone though.
Typical PARD m.o. - if something exists which pesky park users appreciate - trash cans, picnic tables, outdoor shower - then remove em.

Whats the wait time at shops these days?
Last time I was at Trek Guadalupe, they were shooting for 24 hour turnaround times.

Costco has a tech support number listed on this page. I wonder what happens when you call tech support and ask them how to set the sag, or what to do when you crank down on the stem bolts and shatter the handlebar.
Indeed - and there’s a lot to be said for helping your LBS to stay in business. Can you imagine a world where there are no bike shops left, and you have to get your ride drop-shipped from a big box store?

Buy your lumber soon, prices have been dropping fast since beginning of June.
Not that fast. I'm not planning on spending $800k on a small two bedroom home.

I've seen spare tubes that sat in a pack for so long that they dried out and cracked, which makes me leery of those "straps" that people use to carry a spare. spend enough time with a wadded up tube strapped onto your bike, and sun exposure will compromise the tube, leaving you with the disappointing illusion that you have a spare. I'd prefer to keep mine sealed up in a plastic wrap or something similar.
That, and more. I change out my spare tube every six months, whether it needs it or not. I want it to inflate if I ever actually need it to.

I have Schwalbe Fat Franks on my urban Monocog - been very pleased with em.

Stopped by the TREK store on Guadalupe to use a tire pump and realized that a wall has been built across the small space at the north end of the old BSS store. Now it's just the service counter; helmets and a few accessories are along the other wall. It has it's own new entrance and it's just a place to drop off a bike for repairs, not a showroom.
Not sure what's happening with the portion of the old store next to the sub shop.
It's been that way for the last couple of years - sales at that location were always poor, so Hill walled it off and was looking to sub-lease it. I imagine Trek's deeper pockets are paying the full rent at this point.

So ... is the LTC program still a thing?

He's a great kid and a beast on the bike. Think you'll be up there that weekend?
Working on my plans now - however, the final two weeks of July are looking busy, workwise. I was thinking of flying in for the first couple of weeks of August - get a few Crest rides in, etc.

Anyone lose a GoPro out at Brushy? Much like the tale of Ozymandias, where a person meets another person who saw some stuff out in the desert, I met a person who knows a person who found a GoPro at Brushy. There were a couple pics on it - see below.
