There's a group ride of sorts planned Monday Oct. 10, 9 am. I plan to follow (or lead) some folks on all the blue trail. that's a 7 mile route. at the end of that, some people can get some bonus miles in on the black trails and ride the Flow trail.

Sunday, Oct 10 -- or Monday, Oct 11?

some of the maps show that most of the trail are "directional." is that a suggestion or should I stick to the prescribed direction?

Here's a route I had in mind. at the end, one could ride all around Henne, and or Ride Kent's, or turn off toward the Flow trail, or do all of it.

I don't know that it's strictly directional, but the trail signage does point you in a specific direction, and I don't know that I'd ride it any other way. I for sure wouldn't want to meet someone flying down the downhills while I was riding up one.

What day do you plan to go out there -- maybe I'll come out too.

  3. I ride the three marked race loops on the parking lot side - if it gets hot you can skip any of them using the trail which runs along the peak of the hill - then I ride what used to be an extra credit loop, going thru the gate at the top. That's also where you can divert and climb to the flow trail, if you want. Then I follow the trail over to the back side of the hill, which includes the rock garden section, and that takes you back over the hill to the big downhill. If you don't want to ride the 'meadow', which is several miles and rather boring, turn left onto the double track when you pass the gate.

Gets so much worse at the state and federal levels. The thing that burns me up are the retire-rehires. Talk about sitting around making your retirement plus, six figures for doing nothing. The way they find to waste taxpayer dollars is insane. Almost none of them would make it more than a month in the private sector.

Another toxic byproduct of this pattern is holding the "younger" people back who trying to move up the ranks.

    I'm done with Austin

So very true. I left my appallingly-low paid finance position because I could -- I'd joined the City from the private sector. Every person I worked with had resigned themselves to never ever being able to leave for the private sector. Some were rather jealous, although by now I expect they have hit their 23 years and are busy trying to get re-hired as a consultant.

  5. They are welcome to some of the fifteen fucking grand I pay in property tax, for which I get no perceivable return. I wish I could have a say in where it goes.

Many years ago I worked for the City of Austin. It's astonishing how many well-paid people are just sitting around waiting for their 23 years to be up. Bah humbug - don't get me started.

Lately ive found mountain bikers aren't any better. We were out on SATN saturday and guys were riding up tailgating and trying to get around my wife as shes trying to climb these techy ledges. She always over reacts and stops to get out of everyones way. I'm trying to break her of that habit. She loses all he momentum and ends up having to walk the feature, frustrated because these cunts are too selfish to give her the space to get up, then pass.  Worst yet, I'd imagine these dudes wished their wives were out there with them riding instead of blowing up their BMI rocking some potato chips on the couch watching real housewives. It'd be nice if they had the decency to give a mountain biker some common courtesy

At this point I've been playing defense and blocking. I've told a few "you can fucking wait". Guess what.......they wait.

There are some serious dickheads out at both Suburban Ninja and SATN. Real bikes, decent kit, so they must ride enough to be somewhat aware of conventions and norms -- and yet they fly up behind me, hub buzzing, in spots where there is no possible way for me to let them past. I've taken to sudden braking near cacti, and enjoy watching them bushwhack around me - hope you have cushcore, brah.

Funny enough, she's actually planning a trip there. Wife made a deal with our youngest if she took four years of advanced french, we'd take her to France for graduation next summer. Her plan is for us to take the train down to Andorra and watch the world cup DH race and visit commencal HQ while there. This all covid contingent.

    I lucked out with her.

I spent many summers in the south of France as a kid - we had a house there. I highly recommend heading for Aix-en-Provence, and from there toward the coast, and find a small village to hang out in (ours was La Croix Valmer).

Fixed..   I forgot that even though I purchased a five year certificate, it has to be manually renewed every year.  Annoying.  Sorry!

Let us know if you need $$ to keep place running and bot-free.

  9. There's a lot of history in them thar woods, which  until relatively recently were also the home of the cedar choppers. There's an old stone homestead on the south side of 360, accessibly by bike, but more easily on foot, which was the home of fellow mountain biker Bill Simons' pa, and his pa before him. At the far end of 360, closer to Lost Creek, there's an Eanes family graveyard. That's the family of Gary Eanes, who comes to R&I. A lot of it - to me at least - was uncovered by running around those hills with the hash house harriers.

Was supposed to go back to the open office 7/26, I got a 2 week extension but they are moving full steam ahead and want to be back to 100% by late August. Since there are no orders or laws against it, everything the CDC, city, county, etc. are saying are 'just things for us to consider'. No real mask or distancing requirements. I pray our Exec's come to their senses.

Hear, hear. Our execs are trying to make us return to the open office (from behind their closed doors) - most of us are flat out refusing.

You'd think so. But I've observed he's a cold turkey kinda fellow. He decided to stop drinking and he was done. He decided to stop riding motorcycles on the road and he was done. Same with here. It's a little bit of shooting your foot off to spite your face (is that how that works?) but he ain't a fickel man.

Never met the fellow, to my knowledge. No great loss.
