In Breck this week and filling out my dance card with trails over here. But I'll be in Leadville on Thursday and looking to put together 3hrs of riding or so.

Seems like the best option for singletrack is to just play around Turquoise Lake? Then do the Sugarloaf Lollipop, then Turquoise Lake Rd back to the truck?

    Anything else worth exploring?

So went out and left BC to run my route up to SN and back. Actoss the dam a guy came up on me and didn't pass. Game on.
We dropped off the side trail by Gnargasm and booked it toward Gum Drum.
I don't know what exactly happened but he told me that I cleared one root but clipped a trunk and like that I was OTB hard.
Hit my head . Face and landed on the back of my shoulder.
Turns out that after x-rays at DOC and then onto St David's for CT scan I broke my clavicle and it is dislocated from the sternum.
But thanks to whoever I was riding with. I think his name is Jared or Jaret or something. But whoever he is I am grateful for him and what little time we spent hauling mad ass , I had fun bro!

Ouch! Those high-speed, unexpected wipeouts can be the worst. When I converted my Tallboy from 29 to 27.5 format - and in every respect it's a better bike - I had to go through a period of adjustment to stop having hard pedal strikes and bottom bracket impacts, often resulting in a sudden, unexpected dismount. I now ride with a higher tire pressure and a little more air in the rear shock, and all is good.

There's a circular root out at Suburban Ninja at the perfect height to catch your bike shoe in - I have to remember it's there every time I take this innocent little turn, and one day it's gonna get me.

    Heal up, man.

We only skipped the 7-mile dirt road climb up CR 175. Definitely plenty of choices for beer in town but we never got over to Benson's. Will put that on my list for next time!

Ah - I assumed you rode to the ride! Way more convenient than shuttling!

I need to get my car bumper and hood repainted, anyone know of a good place?

It's no wonder the BC thread has almost ten times the number of posts as the R&I thread 😞 This would never have happened back on Mojo!

I rode from Cedar Park down Shoal yesterday.  Did a lap around Town Lake.  On the trip back north - I was pretty overheated (it was around 2:30 at that point).  Stopped off at Tony's to refill on H20 and barely made it back without calling for a pickup.  Definitely not my best decision making going out too late in the morning.

Sorry to miss you - we had gone over to COTA to see Beyond Van Gogh, and boy was I glad that big tent is decently air-conditioned.

So there are a few examples of the brits being shitty, and all brit fans suck now?

Not all, but as 'European' fans go, they are kind of up there - principally the English and the Scots, just to be clear.

I was tempted to go the wax route before I started using Smoove. Now between my bikes and my wife's,  we're getting about 6000 miles out of a bottle while somehow managing to increase chain life by about 30+%. I used to apply various lubes after each reasonable ride, and now it's about weekly--or about every 4 or 5 rides. And the application is much faster than other lubes as well.

Does this affect the FR512 stuff?

No. And to respond to AB, it‘s pretty much one guy maintaining the trails, and $10 isn’t a lot to pay, especially when $0 of that goes to the guy doing all the work. End of an era.

Watching all the cyclocross in Belgium ...

I grew up in Belgium, and we used to ride our 5-speed bikes to school, crossing plowed fields in the rain and what not. Years later, I realized that this was the origin of cyclocross!

Thank you! Watching all the cyclocross in Belgium and seeing people fries and a fry sauce company sponsoring several cycling teams has me very very curious.  It's been a while since I hit the Draught House, now I have an extra reason!

Let me know ahead of time - I'll ride over and join you.

  12. Chips are considerably larger than fries, and are double-fried in a different oil than is used in the US. It's rare that you find chips done properly in the US. However, one place that does decent Belgian fries is the food trailer at the Draught House.

my few experiences with RHR have been that the back area always has a ton of downed trees and is difficult to maintain because it's remote. maybe this will be better, as more trail will be cut in a smaller area closer to the front. glad to hear it's sticking around though, because the terrain is a nice change of pace for everything else that's west of I-35.

on that note, here's a cool map of Texas ecoregions. it explains a lot about why the terrain varies so much.

I really don't think it will be better - 1,000 acres will be sold, and only 300 will remain. Most of the fun flowly stuff in the woods will be gone.

  14. I usually find there is an inverse correlation between the authenticity of fish and chips and the 'Englishness' which whatever the pub is claims. This was certainly the case with the ill-fated Bennigan's and the Lion & Rose. I haven't yet visited 'Nosh & Bevvy' on Burnet, but I'm not holding my breath.

  15. From Paul Uhl:

With a very heavy heart, I have to let rider's know that the back 1000 acre's at Rockyhill Ranch did sell. They will be putting up signs to keep rider's/runner's out pretty soon.
On a good note! The new owner is going to let me have one last "Fat Chucks Final Revenge", using all the back trails in late December this year.
We will be creating some more trails on the front 300 acre's. I'm planning on having some marked before I leave for the Summer. So if you are interested in helping cut some new trails at the ranch. Let me know!

    >my wife said the fish & chips was excellent (unlike the soggy mess they serve at the Tavern). will visit again!

I'm a stickler for proper fish n chips, which I've not been able to find in Austin - at least, not both fish battered properly AND chips not fries, both on the same plate. Do I need to go check out this place?

We have re-opened our offices, with rules in place for non-vaccinated people. The problem is that I'm not allowed to ask. I know there are people acting like they got their jabs, when I know they didn't. I don't think they present a danger to anyone else in the office, except each other, but they should be honest about it.

That's one reason why I'm not going back in, especially with the Delta variant on the rise. I did hear that there is a plan afoot to require employees to supply proof of vaccination, but I wonder if that is even legal.
