  1. Kid songs killed me. I can't tell you how many times perfectly good rides were ruined by some cartoon's theme song on repeat in my head. I don't wear headphones on every ride, but I do carry them just in case now.

I had a single speed that I used to tow the kids around in a trailer. The eccentric bottom bracket creaked to the exact rhythm of "Down By the Bay."

Some Specialized stuff with auto sag shouldn’t be too hard for the rear. On my wife’s bike I have to release the red valve then have her bounce to equalize and then hit the auto sag release again.

Good to know. I have the autosag Specy. It always felt too stiff, so I'd just end up sagging it in the old fashioned way. I'll try the release-bounce-release method. One release was clearly not enough for me.

    Honestly... It's too easy.

Dude! 4 consecutive posts? You are killing your reputation quotient.

As someone who has actually managed the ARR site for awhile, thank you to the three of you who visited! I really appreciated your support. Managing communication for email, a Facebook site, twitter site,Instagram site, mojo, arr website and a meetup page all for the different needs of the people is painful at best and to be honest not worth it. Consolidating forums had to happen. I suggest if you are adamant that ARR reinstate their site, join the board and take over managing the program. I’m sure Charlie and team would love some new blood and new ideas.

I build and maintain websites for a day job, and a few of those are for associations. These are absolutely the worst. They want it all and want it cheap (or even free). "Oh yeah, let's have a blog and forum and a calendar and a facebook/twitter/instagram feed and a members only section and can it integrate with our member management system and each month we'll do a Member Spotlight and a "download area" and all of this content will be produced for free by our volunteers. Oh, but let's not forget to run every little decision through a full committee review."

That said, ARR should have some web presence. That is evident by the tone of this thread - even if it is just basic (static) club info and to direct people to the other content. Social media is way easier to push out content, but I think most people still look for a website first.

This was in the email -

snip - "Spider Mountain Bike Park offers year-round mountain biking, featuring beginner, intermediate, and advanced trails, all accessible via a four-person chairlift ride.  The bike park features mountain bike and gear rentals, and will be open Fridays through Sundays starting Jan. 18, from 9am to 5pm, plus holidays and spring break. For additional details, visit SpiderMountain.com.

Lift tickets are $50 for adults (ages 19-59) and $45 for all others.  An introductory Spider Mountain Season Pass will be $199 for adults (ages 19-59 years) and $149 for all others, valid Jan. 19 through Apr. 30, 2019.  Power Pass holders also have mountain bike privileges at Spider Mountain in addition to skiing and snowboarding in four different states.  Power Cards and Power Packs may also be used at the bike park.

With a variety of trails for all abilities and 350 feet of vertical, Spider Mountain’s  lift-served bike park features include downhill flow trails, and technical trails with bridges, berms, jumps, and more. The bike park is designed and developed by Hogan Koesis, director of mountain biking for Mountain Capital Partners, which owns and operates Spider Mountain and six ski resorts.  Koesis has more than a decade of experience in the biking industry, designing, developing and constructing trails."

Could it be that this 4 month span is for the "introductory rate", but the pass lasts for a full year? I would be silly to boast year round lift-assist riding but then set a 4 month "season". I know it sure doesn't read that way, but it could be poor phrasing.

  6. There has been a surprising amount of El Paso talk on here lately. Is anyone going to be riding there over this next weekend? I'm heading there with the family Sat - Tues. I wasn't planning on hauling the bike because it will be a short trip with Christmas and in-laws and the drinking that allows me to remain sane around the in-laws, but if any of y'all were planning to be there too, I wouldn't mind getting out in the mountains a little.

  7. That kid is either yelling at it or trying to take a bite out the saddle.

Devil's Advocate: I would love build my kids' love for mountain biking (and I'm trying). The problem is that I am selfish. When I have the time to ride, I want to fucking shred. I ain't got no time to be waitin' for a scrawny kid to play catchup.

Sure, I bet it is expensive, but if I had deeper pockets I'd buy one for my kids.

  8. Hard to say. Once the machines collectively decide to start killing, it will happen very quickly. This scooter thing just furthers our reliance on the machines, making it that much easier for them to destroy us. It will happen so quickly, we won't see it coming.

You: "Hey Alexia, what's the weather going to be like today?"

Alexia: "It's going to rain blood puny human."

Maybe we should think long-term and put scooters on that list. Think about it: more scooters = more stupid people injuring themselves and shortening their opportunities to reproduce. When they get out of the hospital, they realize, "that was dumb I, am going to buy a bicycle instead!"

seriously though, I think the scooter thing will blow over in a year or less. they will stick around, but the novelty will wear off and there will be fewer bozos running into stationary objects. people will start using helmets, riding conscientiously, and using them less for joy-riding and more for getting places they really need to be. In the meantime, more people will become aware of the lack non-vehicular infrastructure and demand more  bike (and scooter) lanes, accountability for inattentive drivers, etc. I have a very bleak outlook on our species and even I think that's possible.

You overlooked one factor. The average fat/lazy American will always pay $5 to avoid walking somewhere.

They told me yesterday that stuff is moving quick, so might not be a lot more price cuts. The bad news is the stuff they are getting sent from the warehouse is all XS/S/XXL, so on the clothing side its not a pretty picture.

    Perfect! I'm a XS/S/XXL in helmet/shirt/penis size.

Not really. I'm a solid S across the board.  :classic_unsure:
