Watching them hike up conveyed how steep it was better than the other video. I keep having to tell myself to double the wow factor watching these type things because of the frustrating phenomena of how cameras fail to show how scary features actually are.

I also like his videos because he always shows what goes on behind the curtain. And I laughed at the subtle, "ouch" when he fell over.

It's the camera angle plus the fact that we see these guys do amazing shit everyday. Watching Danny ride a mountain bike slowly down a mountain doesn't carry the same eye candy wow factor as the flips, whips, hucks, and crazy balancing acts in all his other videos. Then you realize just how steep that slab is, and WOW!

It keeps sagging more and more. I just keep raising it so it is at full height after it sags.

When you say it keeps sagging, does that mean it slips down when you are sitting on it or that it doesn't fully return?

I used to have a KS eten (non-serviceable cartridge) that would not fully return so I had to reach down and pull it up the last inch or so manually. Each time it started doing that, I just gave it the basic service at home for $0 (well, plus the generous amount of Slick Honey), and it worked as good as new for several months until the next service. The basic service is basically taking it apart, wiping clean, and reassembling with ample amounts of Slick Honey. It's not hard to do.

If it slips when you are sitting on it on the other hand, it is probably beyond just needing a good cleaning. In the words of the late great Eazy E, throw it in the gutter and go buy another.

  3. I'm just jealous. My wife said, "I don't mind camping when we go to Big Bend, but at minimum, I want a private bathroom."  To which I said, "That's called an AirBnB." She replied, "Ok, but I don't need a super nice AirBnB."

  4. It looks like a POS, but also has a solar powered fridge/freezer, generator, and shower. I have a soft spot for things that are ugly but functional.

Oh, and it comes with an airtight poop bucket!!

Am I the only person that tracks rides/miles on Strava religiously, but has never even looked at time? I have no idea when my fastest times at any local trails are.

This is me, too. I'm more interested in miles, vertical feet, and total number of rides than my best time on a given segment. I do like seeing when I get some trophies at the end of the ride, but I rarely drill into them or even care which ones they are. In the context of this thread, it is fun sometimes to look at some of my best times on frequently ridden segments and try to figure out which bike i was riding at the time.

Wasn't the glove box also easily removed?  I remember they protrude into the frunk.  Seems like something Colin Furze would do!

Might have been the glove box, not the radio. I was a mere twinkle in my father's eye when he was terrorizing the streets of Austin with a firework armed VW Bug.

  7. My dad used to always tell me a story about when he was in high school and they rigged his buddy's VW Bug to shoot bottle rockets out of the front. Since the motor was in the back, it was as simple as pulling the radio and running a pipe through the front hood.

I thought everyone just used lockon grips now, seemed like a no-brainer game changer to me. 🤔

Silicone grips like ESI just feel different. They add cushion and dampen vibrations. Plus, if you are a gram counter, you can beat the weight. I was having some hand problems when I tried them first. Can't say they fixed the hand issues completely, but I found I just loved the feel. I tried to go back to the lockons that came on a bike. That only lasted one ride.

I usually order from ESI direct. Last time I ordered they included a 30% code: ESI30RACERS.  I love the grips but I wish they were a little easier to remove. I have burned through a few pairs replacing brakes, shifters, etc.

I love ESI's, but I've been using a set of Red Monkey Klampz for a while now and have been pretty happy with them. The feel of silicone with the ease (and weight) of a lock-on. Also, they are probably the girth of an ESI extra chunky with the cush of a racers edge. I kind of like it, but that combination could be a turn off to some looking for the extra cushion.
