It’s time to replace my frame bearings. Looking for recommendations for a shop to do the work. Anyone have good experiences recently getting this done locally?

RIP Forest Ridge and cantilever brakes.

Love the Expanse, haven’t watched the 5th season because I don’t want it to end.

I have the same one, works really well actually. Had a fancy Hayes one that I lost, but this one works just as well.

As an elder millennial (we’re really the Oregon Trail generation), just turned 40 as well, I feel your disillusionment. We finally got our finances in order to buy a house in 2019 and then we all know what happened. Me and the wife have also been looking for better paying jobs, we want to stay in Austin with both our families here, but it might not be doable. Wife is super close with her family, so we are gonna fight it out. Refuse to live in the outskirts so I guess we are renters for life? Fook. Anyways, bike are sooo expensive, save up and work on the wife for a while, lots of good used full sussers are going be popping up! Good luck!

If you find one with the Allen & torx bits you like do you mind carrying 2 tools? I’ve been carrying this park chain tool for 20+ years. https://www.parktool.com/product/mini-chain-brute-chain-tool-ct-5
I’ve tried other multi tools with one built in and none work nearly as well to me. My shop breaker grew legs a few years ago and I’ve just been using this one at home too.Same here I carry this chain breaker since always and another small multi tool this:

not sure if it would work for you but has 8mm.

Budgeting in $45 for the 3L, you are correct, need it here!

Just ordered an Osprey Raptor. Comparing it to a Dakine Drafter that has some weird (but interesting)features. Thinking the Osprey will have better build quality and better storage. Don’t love that it only comes with a 2.5L bladder instead of a 3L.

IME installing a lower fork crown race is a pretty aggressive maneuver. Its hard to do it half ass. If it wasn't fully seated down I think it would rock noticeably on the race seat and would feel and sound (over time) loose.

No knocking sound, feels solid. Good to know, thanks!

Only way to really know is to drop the fork and look, but it looks normal to me at least from these views.
Just did, looks normal to me.

Just finished “Children of Time,” and though I’m not the biggest sci-fi fan, this was one of the best books I’ve ever read. Feel like it’s a must read for science fiction nerds and everyone else probably.

One episode left. it's pretty dark. I feel like I'm missing a lot by being illiterate when it come to Korean culture, but it's darn well done.
I will say the translation is lacking quite a bit. I have forgotten most of the language but a better translation would help. Maybe they did it because they thought a western audience needed it dumbed down? The acting and direction is top notch though!

As I grow older I am finding ways to enjoy cycling by doing more with less. I've sold off the big expensive bikes, and toned down my bike budget significantly simply to do so.
I have recently given the single speed life a gander, and I just don't think it's for me. While the simplicity is awesome, I like to go faster at times and slower at other time. However, if I had 2 mountain bikes one would definitely be a single speed.
Anyways, enter my Sunday morning project.
Advent X installation on the salsa timberjack 27.5+ with the chain stays slammed to 420.
All parts installed include:
cassette, rear derailleur, shifter, shimano cable housing and a kmc x10 chain, for a grand total of $215.
I'll report back after a few rides.
How goes the advent x?

I have ridden Surisan, Sinwolsan and I think another that escapes me at this point. Used to go there on business all the time, 2006-2012.
Those are great trails! I lived a couple subway stops away from Surisan. Great MTB community at that time and a mountain every couple of miles. Was there 2004-07. You must have ridden with Jerry and the yahoo MTB group. Sinwolsan was Jerry’s trail. Great guy, used to bring us American goodies for after ride chilling.

Where in Korea? I rode a few trails there, great biking.
This was at Surisan. So many miles of amazing trails there, but this was my local mountain and my favorite.
When were you over there? Where did you ride?- 1

Started MTBing in mid 90’s but don’t have any photos. This is 2005 South Korea.

This thread has me bummed. Anyone had success with local Fox Suspension work?
Got great service from 812 but their MTB tech is gone. Got solid to okay service from BSS over the years. Before they closed they actually referred me to 812 for service on my Float X2.
I would assume most shops could handle a Fox fork lower leg service and damper bleed? Has anyone recently got this done on their Fox fork?

Only bottle mounts on my frame are on the underside of the downtube which is a prime spot for trail nasties to land. Had to get creative to fit a bottle in the front triangle. Ugly but gets the job done.

Looks good!
Can also say the TruckerCo metallic sintered pads for zee/saint worked every bit as good as my finned saint metallic pads. Initial bite is a bit more aggressive but you can work through it.
Also surprised they weren't tapped from the factory like the older deore were.
Yeah I assumed they were tapped but came with cotter pins like the zee’s. Easy enough to do though.
trucker co will be my next pads, my Utah friends also recommend them.

Is there an advantage of using those pads?

I cannot tell a difference at all. Just had an extra pair from some old zee brakes.

I had to replace my rear brake caliper, it was a Shimano XT 8020 and couldn’t find a deal on one since they are discontinued. Ended up picking up a Deore 6120 caliper. The lower end Shimano brakes take a cotter pin which I hate. I prefer the screw in pin found on the higher tier brakes. I was able to tap in threads to the caliper to fit the screw in pin and also Saint/Zee finned pads fit in these brakes! They feel almost exactly like the XT’s!

Another tidbit of info came my way today - the 812 business is still open, but only the original motorcycle suspension side. The guy who did the mtb stuff moved on, BUT they are hoping to replace him. So fingers crossed ...
Yes, here's hoping, did really good work!
