  1. I spoke with a park ranger at the spyglass entrance yesterday. He said the reservations are only for the main entrances to keep crowds low at those access points. They do not check reservation stubs once you enter the Greenbelt. If you enter before 1030 or at any other entrance not listed you do not need a reservation. He said ride all day and enjoy the trails, just respect people’s space.

Are mountain bikes allowed on trails there now? Never thought they were. Having trouble finding anything official from TPWD.

Yes they are. I’ve asked before and the park rangers said they are allowed but not many people ride them because they are difficult so they don’t advertise them as bike trails. I think they’re worth doing a loop if you’re camping there.

  3. I bought some panaracer gravel kings 700x50 and set them up tubeless on 29” rims on my karate monkey and they spin great. I just think it looks funny because the KM is meant to have a wider tire on it. I’m actually thinking about getting rid of them and going with Surly Extraterrestrial 29x2.5. If you’re interested in them let me know.

Do you know them? Did you just ask them to hold your bike? This is an intriguing photo!

Don’t know them. They were there with a photographer doing some kind of photo shoot so I asked them if I can snap a pic as well. I try to get one strava pic per ride to define my ride. This was it.

riding through Stephenson Preserve, I rode past a ... fashion photoshoot? a bare-chested women was standing in the middle of a field while another women was photographing her. nothing raunchy going on, it all seemed very tasteful. just kinda weird.

Sounds similar to a ride sighting I encountered a couple of months ago.

  6. So......I’ve got an extra wheel set for my karate monkey that I’d like to put some gravel bike tires on. Looking to set it up to ride some road, town lake gravel trails and some single track. I’m thinking 700c x 40? Currently looking at Maxxis Rambler or WTB Riddler. I have no experience with gravel bikes. Thoughts on tires?

Wish I could - but meetings all the way through to 6pm tomorrow. New bike or just picking up from being serviced?

Both kind of. My hightower had a crack so Santa Cruz warrantied it for a Hightower 2 frame. BSS is doing the swap.

  8. I used to do 12 week programs off bodybuilding.com that really did whip me into shape and had a great effect on my riding.  I want to find another program similar to that but mountain bike specific.  If I have a plan written out for me I’ll have a much better chance of sticking with it.  Does anyone know of a good MTB strength training program that includes rides and interval training available for download? Seems like there are a few ads I’ve seen on Instagram and Facebook.

Not sure where you are getting your info but Weather Underground has the forecast on Saturday at a high of 64 and partly cloudy with no rain. The rain yesterday and today was very light and shouldn't leave too much moisture. I think it will be about perfect!

Agreed. I walked latta Greenbelt this evening and most trails were tacky with just a couple of wet spots. One day of sun shine should expose some hero dirt!
