Peddlers is a good place to ride with lights. I've not ventured onto 1/4 notch with lights, not sure, yet, if I want to. But peddlers is fun with lights.

Ive done DD with lights a couple times but not anymore , alone at least. 1/4 is fun,, for sure Rim. SN\Church is fun as hell. The tunnel of trees with the long downhills are awesome at night.

Yep, SN is pretty much perfect for the Kona. I think a single speed would be great out there too. I took a wrong turn about half a mile in, and ended up at the FR 512 area. The Karoo got me back on track.

You can easily add more miles out there and tie in to BC from there. Like Chief and St B mentioned , there are numerous loops and options around SN and

depending on how you choose to string them together you can get 8-12 fun miles.

And yea , great for a SS there. My Frankenbike with drops is a SS and she does beautiful.

Thanks. So in your opinion, how many lumens do you feel are adequate? Would 500 lumens for each bar and helmet light be good? That would definitely help drive the price down a bit.

While I don't know for sure due to lack of experience, logic tells me that my bar mounted light should be more spread focused and the helmet light should be a spot beam. What are your thoughts on this?

    Hey

So after tons of reading a few years ago ('16) I went with Glow Worm (Action Lites) I bought the previous models of X2 and X1

I run X2 on my bars with at the time a advertised lumens of 1500 Lumens

I run the X1 on my helmet with an advertised lumen of 950. These are pre wireless remote so I have the button to turn on and off and adjust.

The kits were not cheap , I paid back then $417.   But I really believe in getting what I pay for if it is quality.

In all my rides I have never once had my lights go out except for once and that was due to a broken solder connection inside the battery. I normally ride 1.5- 2 hours for night rides and no issues.

As far as the solder issue. At the time my lights were out of warranty so I reached out to see to my options and the dude said no problem and sent me exactly what I needed, even out of warranty. He stood behind his product.

Last April I saw they were clearing out older models so I bought another X1 and battery for $80.

I cant speak to the remote wireless of course but the over all product has lasted me. They take some brutal beatings riding BC at night and have so I am sure that isnt great but to me 100 buck a year for someting I depend on is worth it.

I dont agree that more light is better, there are still shadows whether you are rocking 900 lumens and 4000 , which is obnoxious imo.

You are welcome to borrow my set for a ride if you want to

  4. Dude. I saw this dude, riding a road bike on Suburban Ninja my first ride out. I think he was a hippie too. WTF?
Told you ol man.. it isnt a road bike. It doesn't need gears and I'll get a haircut eventually.18cb9fa215cafedd3ab54d96971d7c1e.jpg

Things have changed since you have been away man. You'll see lots of no helmets and flip flops on shitty bikes making me listen to their stupid music.

Well I went out for an easy ride yesterday evening, and for the first time in hundreds of rides logged at BC, I ended up in a head-on collision on 1/4 Notch. Thought I got lucky with just some scrapes and bruises, but unfortunately my thigh took some blunt force trauma and is now incredibly painful and swollen, probably in part to me being on blood thinners. Needless to say I'm out for this morning. @WLemke I'm really sorry for now having had to back out two weeks in a row - definitely not like me to do that.

I hope it wasnt the leg you jacked up last year?   I am trying to figure how to get rolling in the AM for this ride , Fridays shouldnt be bad though. Ive been hitting evenings going into night time. Love me some night rides

Anyways,, hope you are all right

Cool,, My son is really wanting to ride with me and wants ANYTHING curvy and without the chunkage of Cen Tex. That looks like he would love it.

  8. I have had 2 trailers in the last few years and towed with a pickup.
I learned that the advertised towing is different when you use a towing calculator and determine more precise weights.
What the marketing people tell me a tow capacity is and what it actually is can be very different.
They don't take into account other weight that should be considered, like fuel family dog.. kids.. food .. cooler.. ice .. propane. That all counts.

That said.. educate yourself and understand all the unknown aspects of towing.
It is a safety thing for your loved ones but also the random others on the road. Wear and tear and peace of mind.

Yes!  100% this.  This is what I mean by going down with the bike if I know I'm going down.  Feet in pedals and hands in bars.  I have bar ends so that even helps protect my hands.

1995 called , wants it bar ends back

  10. I recall years ago in Bike mag , early 90's , I read a little article about how to crash and one thing always stuck and has come in handy,, When going down on the bike, let the bike hit the ground first.

This isnt fool proof but in the slow falls where I actually see it coming I put the bars down 1st into the ground instead of my hands\arms , let them break my fall.
