It's definitely doing it, which is why I suggested to my employer to implement sick days and not just generic PTO, and encourage people to stay home.  Too many times a bunch of people get sick at work b/c we're all workaholics/driven and we're trying to save precious PTO for vacations.  I bet there are studies that show a positive $ impact to sick days due to less loss of productivity.

I was also wondering about food poisoning and other such communal (venereal too) diseases.

My wife in her role at UT manages a bunch of people and one of her biggest struggles\complaints is trying to get sick people to not come in. But-- they dont want to burn PTO or they are not paid very well and need every cent.

I'd have a hard time not physically responding if someone tried that shit with me.  Especially if he was already being an asshole by not giving me an opportunity to pass for some time before that.  Guess it would be a good idea to sport a GoPro for situations like this..

That guys been riding Peddlers for years. He's a grumpy sour puss. Never says hello and comes riding through our build area without slowing down. I haven't had the pleasure of riding behind him yet. I wonder what would happen if someone got around him and slowed down to a snail's pace?

I tried to pass him under the bridge-- he literally , like no shit,, he literally bumped my bars as I went by him.

You know me -- I am not what you would call intimidating by any means-- But damn I would have chased him down and , shit,, I dunno what-- but I would have not been pleased.

It was great seeing you out there yesterday morning. A little awkward with everything going on but good that we got to chat for a few minutes while keeping our distance. What a glorious morning to be out! Best ride I've had in close to a year. I did start experiencing a sore throat last night that has persisted into this morning, but no fever or cough. I'm hoping it is related to the green dust that is covering everything in sight!

Yea -- Good seeing you. I find it nice running into people I know on nearly every ride.    I would chalk the throat up to the green stuff covering the cars now

  5. Oh my gosh - long white haired motherfucker with no helmet?  I got stuck behind him a week ago.  He cut me off several times as I tried to pass.  Every time I hollered "I'm passing on your left" and he would swerve left as I came up beside him.  Finally got around him just before Parmer, but DAMN.  I had 2 others I was riding with and they had the same problem with him.  Somebody's gonna take him out by accident or on purpose and Willie Nelson's gonna wish he'd at least worn a helmet!
Nice. That's exactly what's needed on trails now.
    Sarcasm of course

  6. Yes! Last night was mad.

I did go for a hike with my daughter about 130 today on 1/4.

Saw only 2 real bikers. About 3 the crowds started.

I've decided morning rides or night. I dont blame people , especially those with little kids being out but the frigging cluelessness is outstanding.

I literally rode about 3 feet or less behind the rear tire over most of PP because some long white haired , camo wearing , earphone wearing, old tool on POS bike refused to let me pass. Refused. Looked me in the eye. He saw he saw me. He could smell me I was so close.

He refused. I decided (maybe wrongly) i was gonna use his forehead as a kicker if he fell.

When i went to pass his ass under the bridge un Parmer he literally ran into me. Never ever in yrs and decades of riding has that happened. Rant over.

I didn’t even know trains passed on that bridge. Is it that one red light rail that goes to downtown Austin?

    Yes.

I have seen kids up there more than once and last year actually saw them have to jump down on the fence that covers the trail. Scared the shit of me since I dont want to see that.

Clueless people were out in full force last week. Along with a dozen or so helmetless/shirtless mountain bikers, I saw two hikers almost get hit by a train because they decided to walk across the bridge by Mulligan. I’m all for people enjoying the outdoors, but I’d rather not spend my ride watching people narrowly avoid serious injuries.

This week, I switched to riding first thing in the morning and it’s wonderful!

I saw the people up there on the trestle. I have seen that before and if you are dumb enough to do that , well tell Darwin I said hi

I think I might ride at night again to avoid.    I dont care that people are using the trails really, but some are outside their pay-grade for sure.   Now some folks have been super nice on  the trails and get out of the way and are aware.

  9. By the way... I am blown away at how many Barneys are riding their bikes with reflectors and no helmets on DD or 1/4 Notch. I saw a girl , less then 5' tall riding down the Bailout from 1/4. No helmet. Flip flops on a 29er.

Point being please be aware there is gonna be alot of people out on the trails that are above their pay grade.
I'm all about them enjoying the trails. I get parents being at with end with kids and looking to get the kids out.

So no judgement really under the circumstances but please be aware these folks are out there so we as riders should be extra careful.

I think the number I saw from NYC is that ~40% of the new infections were "younger" people. Not sure about the veracity of that data, but I would bet it has been cherry picked specifically to help the younger folks understand that they are at risk because some seem to believe this is an old people's disease.

Maybe so-- I've been told by my kids and guys at work a lot younger than me that they hear it as the boomer killer.   Since I am Gen X,, I guess I am safe then by that logic
