  1. I rode down BCRT to Peddlers an hour ago and walked through it a bit. Pretty soft and wet in places so probably not.
  2. That sounds perfect. I would much prefer to work with and pay a local individual for instruction. Any instructors on the board feel free to message me!
  3. Are there any MTB classes or training sessions around Austin? I grew up next to OP Schnabel Park in San Antonio and rode old BMX style bikes around that park as a kid in the 80s and early 90s but moved to Austin in the mid 90s and stopped riding. I picked up a mountain bike a couple years ago but only have done really super easy flat trail riding for the most part. Didn't really get into single track until the past 3 months or so around Brushy Creek. I'm a freaking expert when it comes to watching youtube videos but I would like to take a class with an instructor at some point. They can actually see what I'm doing wrong with body positioning and such and help out. Looks like Ninja Mountain Bike Performance does some classes at OP Schnabel in SA and that would be an option as my sister still lives in the house we grew up in that backs up to the park. Anyone heard of them or taken their classes?
  4. Not even close. I have better quads and look much more fabulous in that outfit than he does.
  5. At least it's entertaining today.
  6. Saw your post right before going out to ride Peddlers today. Took my go pro and got a video for you. I'm pretty slow but I did beat my previous record by nearly a minute! Was 18:40 but today was 17:46 according to Strava. Felt good to beat my previous by that much. I still get pretty gassed about 2/3 of the way through the trail. You can tell I'm tired when I start looking down at my tire. Still pretty out of shape but getting there.
  7. Seems lots of folks are on edge lately including myself! This quarantine needs to end.
  8. Y'all are right, I know. I let my temper get the best of me. Rough couple days and off leash dogs in public parks are a pet peeve of mind. And I'm a dog owner with a very well trained Border Collie.
  9. The dog was further along the bridge and I agree, it was a dick move on my part. Probably shouldn't have done it. But honestly, I think it's a dick move for anyone to have an off leash dog in any public park, regardless of how nice the person is or how well trained the dog is. There are leash laws for a reason. However, you are correct and I will control my temper a bit better next time. Been a rough week and it's only f'ing Tuesday.
  10. Rant... There's a guy I've encountered a few times around Picnic that never has his dog on a leash. It always seems to be around lunch time during the week. I've asked him nicely a couple times to use a leash in such a high traffic area but he just ignores me. Saw him again this morning standing on the bridge by the train overpass with the dog off leash wandering on the bridge. I still had my go pro running from a Picnic run. Normally I would keep my distance and skip the little side path by the bridge but I was irritated so I buzzed behind him off the bridge. Couldn't help myself. If you see him, ask him to put his damn dog on a leash. *edit* Yes, it was a dick move on my part and catching hell for it was sort of why I posted it. Let my temper get the best of me as dogs off leash in public parks is a huge pet peeve of mine. Won't happen again! *edit*
  11. Wait, THAT is the alter? I thought y'all were talking about the drop down from the neighborhood fence line at 26:59. First time I encountered that one it took me about 5 minutes to gather up the courage to go down it!
  12. Did some go pro cuts today on the jumps behind Peddlers and on Sub Ninja with one of my hockey teammates. Warning... Only watch if extremely bored because, well, we suck. Could be a good how not to ride playlist maybe! FYI there is some course language.
  13. I've started to do the same unless they have a dog or kids which are unpredictable; I'll call out to them. Funny thing is the kids almost always move to the right while their parents look bewildered. I just slow down around them. I also slow down around the folks I call the "weavers" who randomly weave from side to side on the trail. Usually talking on the phone.
  14. I just rode up Suburban Ninja to Peddlers and back. There are a bunch of super easy jumps right behind the bike shop to practice on. I ran through them about 15 times before I realized I had better head back home for a meeting!
  15. Of course then there are the people that hear me say, "Coming on your left!" and then they move left to block me. Oh well, at least they tried.
  16. I don't think it's that big a deal. Most runners and bikers are nice enough to each other. The only problem I have is runners with ear buds in that can't hear when I'm letting them know I'm coming up behind them. That's a bit annoying but I can usually yell loud enough to get their attention.
  17. Same here. Both jumps and drops. I'm just fine on anything less than 3' but my eyes start getting wide on anything higher. It would be nice if there were some areas around town with a good progression of drops and jumps for beginners to get more confidence. I've accidentally gone off one of the higher drops along Picnic(4 or 5 ft) thinking it was one of the lower ones. I made it without crashing but it definitely wasn't pretty and there was a narrow miss with a tree so I haven't attempted again!
  18. I've been playing with mine lately. Right now I'm at 31R/27F but mine are old school with tubes. I'd like to go lower but that'll have to wait until I get on tubeless.
  19. Perhaps you need one of these with the integrated hatchet attachment.
  20. It marked me as Peddler's Pass 4.0 for today's ride. It also says my time was 18:45 although when I entered the path it was 11:29:00 and when I exited it was 11:48:30 so that's 19m30s by my count. Unless math has changed recently. I don't share anything publicly, just with friends, so none of mine get on the leader boards. Probably a good thing as I would probably be sad when I saw the results!
  21. So I found Gumdrop/Ankle Biter going west from Olson Meadows. That first drop was a bit of a surprise but made it down and definitely understand why it's called Ankle Biter. Fun trail although I crashed a couple times coming back back toward Olson on some bigger roots where I just didn't have enough speed. Definitely did not make it back up that initial drop going back! Had to walk it and nearly ate it just walking the rocks were so slick. Also found this fun little downhill structure somewhere off Gumdrop I think. Rode onto the big rock and just started slipping everywhere so I chickened out and just hopped off and walked it down the planks. I think I need a new rear tire as I just slide all over the place.
  22. Nice! I see your 17 minutes and raise you 2.5 minutes. 19 minutes and 30 seconds for me today, lol! I figure that's not too bad for how out of shape I am and probably my 4th time ever on that trail. Today was actually the first time all the way through without stopping for a rest. Congrats on the weight loss as well! 45lbs lost is a hell of an accomplishment.
  23. Both. I looked at the costs of the upgrade if I bought them later and decided adding a few hundred now and going over budget is better than $1500 later to upgrade. Not that I'm actually a good enough rider to push the limits!
  24. Where is Ankle Biter? Don't see it on this map. https://caltopo.com/m/BR36
  25. Yeah, a buddy of mine did that just today as he didn't know the trail. Lots of people out today. Ran into quite a few on PP and Picnic.
