  1. Well said. in the end, those riders are responsible for knowing their limits and researching trails before they go. I suppose it's subjective, but I'll need to pay attention to how these are marketed, but I will be cognizant of whether they convey that idea to customers. are there examples of advertising that might make riders think that the motor will make up for a lack of skill? perhaps.
likewise, a really nice, sharp knife does not make you a chef and might in fact lead to a loss of a finger. a fast car does not turn you into a race driver, and might in fact result in soaring into a ravine to your death.

E-bikes are not the problem here. I’ve seen plenty of people put knobbies on their commuter bikes and take off into a trail that was way over their pay grade. Did it bother me? Not in the slightest. The bike did not make the decision to hit that trail, the rider did. I do just what AB did here. I tell them how to get back to their comfort zone and answer any questions they may have about how a change in equipment might help them enjoy themselves a little bit more.

  2. Well, finally finished the boxes for the 2nd story and as expected they were quite the whore to install. Warning, white trash installation technique incoming.

  3. MTBR was a major source of stress for me, actually. I'm conversing with the locals on Discord because it's a great source of hyper-local info with minimal drama.

I had honestly never heard of Discord. What is special about it? Have I been under a rock or is it niche?

  4. X is a good guy. I’ve dug trail with him at Walnut before. This site is social media and people quit it all the time for a wide variety of reasons so I just assumed he was simplifying his life and stepping away. I wish him the best. His posts made me think and that’s a win.

  5. Trails like 1/4 Notch may be good late today, otherwise I anticipate most trails will be good to go by tomorrow. Pretty wet out here now.

The above also assumes that we get some sun and no additional rain of course.

Is this sentiment still holding water?

  6. For the big loops in Bella Vista, what's the water situation?  Are there stops of any kind (convenience stores, breweries, etc.)?  Should I take my filter?  Looking at the topology, it seems like if we took all our trails in Austin and tied them with a big loop in the greenbelts.

That’s a good question Antonio. I’ve never done it in the summer when you would need a water refill. There are neighborhoods that you pass through but I don’t think you can rely on that for water. There are very few convenience stores out there. I’d suggest picking your parking place so you can make medium loops that you link into bigger loops?

Well, it's not terribly organized, but you might find someone heading out that late if you've posted up here ... which you have!

I think that "...not terribly organized" is being generous.  If you see a group in the island sitting on bikes with helmets on, they are probably getting ready to go out on a lap.  Just jump in, introduce yourself, and go for a good ride followed by some good company.

  8. Trail conditions as of Thursday night. Church hill is a little slippery and it’s way too hot for knee pads.

Damn man…that looks brutal. The most dangerous trail system in Texas strikes again! Heal up.

Edit: The more I read about what he's doing the more impressive it is. Amazing stuff. You have to be a true badass to do what he's doing.

Hoss is definitely a bad ass.

  10. He’s a great kid.  I cherish the days I get to ride with him.  It won’t last forever, but this is a unique time when we both love riding.
Over a span of 2 years it is much cheaper than almost any club sport (or at least that is the rationale  I’m going with).

Fingers crossed for a run at Spider on Sunday!

Amen brother. Shred together and cherish those memories. Well played!

  11. I just finished 9+ months of working 50 hours/week and completing the police academy at night/and Saturdays.  Passed my TCOLE exam yesterday!
I don't have a lot of time off currently or before I start with the PD, but I have these dates to possibly get up to AF and leisurely stroll down the mountain and drink cocktails in the evening.  Anyone want to share expenses (caveat: I have to know you and like you).  I'll ride every blue on the mountain, but don't want to get balled up and injured, so just purely a fresh air trip.....no PR's for me since I've not been riding AT ALL.

Congrats Leif! Super excited to see you owning your future like this. Gigantor not going to shred with you? Cullen and I are taking about a Father’s Day trip so we’re just missing you by a couple of weekends.

  12. Can we talk about a bodge now?

Can I just say this type of banter is going to keep us all sane through the tsunami season that has descended upon us. Carry on.

  13. We checked out YMCA stuff up on the bluff and it was 90% of the way there.....and then it rained. Again.

Everything is saturated and it’s going to take days of sun and wind to dry out.

  14. I'll add that Smith has a solid reputation in skiing helmets and to my untrained eye cycling and skiing helmets seem fairly similar.

The biggest potential difference (not a skier) is that I really need my helmet to breathe. I ride all year.

As someone considering a Smith lid that's encouraging.  What was the reason for them making an exception and giving you a larger credit?  Because they didn't respond timely?

I've never looked at Smith before but it's good to hear something positive.  I've really been happy with my Kali because of the rail on the top used to mount my light.  Seems like a simple feature but I'm on my second Kali for that feature alone.
