    HOLD A PACELINE

Cody - I have a cross bike and when the trails are wet, I'll ride it on the road.  However, I've never understood exactly what it means to 'hold a paceline'.  Does this just mean that you go the same speed as the dude in front of you and keep a reasonable distance off their back wheel?  Is there some sort of roadie etiquette that I missing out on here?

  2. Oh yeah, carbon bars are a greeat idea. Since we all need to shave those precious grams for your weekend warrior 12 mile trail rides! Right?

Seth - this has a bit of a dickish tone to it but I’m going to assume you didn’t mean it that way. If we all stopped riding parts based on their ability to survive you, Jenson might go out of business.

  3. I agree with some of the comments posted above (where's the rest of Texas, black rider, date bike, etc).  I'd also like to see the ride sporting a mountain bike helmet with a visor.  No squid lid.

I also think that maybe there should be less emphasis on the mountains in the first one.  We have plenty of biking but not much in the way of mountains.

  4. The EB is accessible.  Many of us dream of doing the Tour Divide or some big stage race in British Columbia.  However, those are generally just dreams like a super model (or super goat for some).  The EB is like the cute girl next door who might be out of your league but occasionally gives you a smile.  The EB is like a gateway drug to endurance mountain biking.  At first you don't think you can do it, then you do it and fail or succeed, you find out if it's right for you.  If only the ballers could do it, you'd end up with things like 1/2 marathons or 'EB light'.

I think that instead of making the EB harder, we need additional challenges.  The EB used to seem crazy but now it feels more like a fun ride with the gang.  The Dragon Slayer still seems crazy but it delivers a different kind of challenge.   Maybe throw out an event called the "Grand Fijian" and do parts of the EB, parts of SATAN, and Brushy.  Keep it around 100 miles, minimize road miles, and maximize fun.
