Watching people's behavior during Katrina strengthened my opinion that our hold on civilization is tenuous. So far the reaction to this crisis is not changing that opinion at all.

And that is why I loaded these all up yesterday.  Well to be honest I wanted to play with my speed loader for them.

If people want to play stupid games, I wanted to make sure I had prizes at the ready for them.  I have lots more prizes also, this is not all of them.....

I dropped 50 as well, about the same proportion. I don't have saggy skin so I must have gotten lucky. My issue is that my temples appear sunken because my of the 50 pounds I lost appears to have been in my head. I kinda have a skeleton look now and you can't hide that with clothes so it sucks worse than saggy skin. But it is better than hauling two extra bikes up the hill with me on every climb.

I unfortunately lost mine in about 3 months.  Started back in the gym and riding my bike last month.  And just this month will start on replacing my wardrobe, was waiting to see where about I was gonna land weight wise.

So now I am  just trying to maintain this weight.  And I agree I have noticed my weight when riding, such a huge difference.  Now to just add some muscle mass back on, and life will be good.

  3. We were just discussing this very topic 2 weekends ago on a ride out at RPR.  I just came off a major illness and have only been back on the bike less then a month or so.  And I personally was worried about being the slowest person in our group.  How I pushed harder then I should have, cause I didn't want to be that "guy".  Since I haven't mastered swallowing yet, I have a hard time riding and drinking, so we had to stop more frequently to do this, and I was worried about messing up other peoples rides.

Yet when we have a slower rider in our group, it doesn't bother me one bit if they are behind, or if they have some troubles.  I feel like they are out here, giving it their all, and I am as encouraging as I can be.  And am truly happy they are outdoors, and enjoying themselves.

  4. Maybe my best night time experience was rounding the corner after fat chucks head into Karaway I think, near the water station up there.  And running into a heard of miniature donkeys.  What a site, they just stood there, we slowly road thru them and continued on.

Yes night riding is a whole nother experience, one of the best!!

  5. I have the Garmin Forerunner 235 on my wrist, and a Garmin 830 on the bar normally.

Using a cadence sensor and a wheel sensor, helps with accuracy.  And both my watch and normal Garmin use the same single at the same time.

And everyone I know who has the Wahoo loves them by the way also.  I am sure it comes down to personal preference, we are all using the same satellites.

Holy shit man I hope this is temporary! Will you be riding again? I really need to quit feeling sorry for myself!

I'm 3 weeks post-op after having my hamstrings reattached to my pelvis and will be on crutches for another 4 weeks. Nobody ever offered me a placard, but since it's my right leg, I can't drive anyway.

Yes Sir, that's the plan.  Haven't been off road on my bike since middle of March.  Only plus side is that I have totally rebuilt my bike, fork, shock, wheels went back to specialized for rebuilding.  and I replaced every other bearing in my bike, headset, bottom bracket, rear triangle, new brake rotors, new bar grips.  Should ride like new now!!

Presently I can do a 3 mile ride around the neighborhood.  And then take about a 2 hour nap to recover.  The hard part right now is not being able to swallow, I lost one saliva gland and duct during my first surgery, gives me killer cotton mouth.

Soon I hope to be back out there riding and getting dirty!!!

  7. Never would I have thought that I would have some input on this issue.  4 months ago my Dr prescribed a handicap placard for me.  It was really hard to accept the fact that I would be needing one, personally.  I am super grateful that he did.   Walking some distances does me in, pretty easily.  Middle of my treatment, I was dropped off at the front door, cause all the handicap spots were taken, I didn't make it a 100 feet before I had issues, enough issues where I was admitted to the hospital for the night.

So 5 weeks post treatments, and I still use mine when I can.  Walking still does me in.  I'm getting better, luckily.  What you would see as I walk in, I look pretty healthy. What you don't see is my feeding tube concealed under my shirt, my throat so raw and enflamed that I can not swallow, my inability to speak a lot of times, or the fact that my neck and shoulder barely move in certain directions.

Prior to this I was just your average late 40's mountain bike rider.  I would think nothing of riding 20-30 miles at RPR.  Walnut was a cake walk most of the time.  So just because someone is not using a wheel chair or walker, doesn't mean that all is well with them, or that they don't need that little bit of assistance.  It's the whole wear my shoes for day, and lets compare...…...

  8. Having some experience with this same situation.  My son wrecked his carbon bike, handle bar came over the top tube, scratched and crushed the carbon there.  First thoughts were, well I can get it fixed and let him ride it.  Second thoughts were, did I want to be the guy who put is kid on a repaired carbon frame, and then have it possibly fail while he was riding, causing more damage to the bike, and possibly him?  That was not a phone call I wanted to make to the ex-wife at the time. I ended up buying him another carbon bike.  Sold all the parts off of it, sold the damaged frame and new fork.  Didn't work out to being even, but seems like it only cost me a couple of hundred at the time.

So you have to ask yourself, is a repaired frame worth it, if something happens and your son gets really hurt...…….
