  1. I tried the "Twelve ride flats challenge" after reading the manifesto. Meh. Most of that was learning how to use the flats, since I'd never mountain biked with them (started with toe CLIPS, then clipless.) I  used 1/4 Notch (Mulligan/Peddlers/Picnic) as testbed. Yeah, I learned to "lift" instead of "pull", but shins sure paid a price. After those twelve rides, went back to SPDs. If I ever end up with an "urban" bike, I'll at least have new shoes and pedals to ride with.

I'd like to hear more from folks on their bourbons of choice. Seem to be a lot of Texas brands cropping up but I haven't taken the chance to try any of them. I've never had this one or Knob Creek and would like to know what folks think of these. Seems I keep coming back to Makers Mark and Bulleit 10yr.

Just bought a bottle of Barrel Proof Elijah Craig. My usual is Four Roses single barrel, though Buffalo Trace will sometimes find it's way home, as well as an occasional Blanton's.

Actually, looking at this map and my Strava map from yesterday, it doesn't look like the trails will be affected by that Alamo.  I rode all the way up to the church and didn't come close to the corner of Parmer and Ranch trails, which is where they show the Alamo will be built...

    Some trails might.

Picked this up a week or two ago.  Works well!  I've only used it on the road bike so far, but seems very bright.

Note:  When you get it, it won't power on.  You have to hold the button down for 7 seconds to clear the factory lock before the light will work.

Got the same, but HAVE used it on trail. Works well.

Why can't we have public flogging? Everyone affected gets to participate.

  6. When getting a new bike in 2018, I decided on 29er for mostly one reason: rolling persistance. Everything I read was that 29ers maintain their speed better. I'm fairly slow, but once I get moving I want to keep moving. While there might be a comparable mass between a 27.5 with a wider tire compared to a 29er with slightly narrower tires, such that the spinning mass is nearly the same, and speed might be maintained in a similar manner. Be interesting to compare the 2 sizes with close to same rolling mass.

Trails last evening and this AM are great. I am thankful I saw only person today on the trail.
Hopefully no rain tomorrow as forecasted

REALLY should've ridden yesterday. Oh well. Don't go back to work until 8th, so hopefully trails will dry out in a couple days.

  8. Had switched to Schwalbe Hans Dampf from E13 TRS+ (OEM on bike; way to squirrely for me. side knobs were ginormous.) The HD did not last very long. Tore a hole at Brushy. Switched to Maxxis Minion DHRII 3C Exo for rear (still have HD on front) and it works really well.  Will probably try the DHF front next year sometime.  F/R 22psi/25psi
