  1. Where are they set up at. I’m headed there now on bike. Which parking lot?
  2. I've never been to a demo. Do they let us take the bikes out on the trails?
  3. I also got into mountain biking to lose some weight. It's working. I get mad when it rains because it's interrupting good patterns I was trying to establish. On rainy/wet days, I try to force myself to ride the 15 total miles east to west paved Brushy Creek trail but this isn't nearly as fun.
  4. I've seen these conversations elsewhere. It's interesting how polarizing it can be. Things I don't like about my current bike: Weight Extra components that I don't use. For example, I don't need the front gears. The rear provides me with enough range. Noise. The thing rattles around quite a bit. It doesn't have that "solid" feel that quality things tend to have. This could all be in my head because I can't describe it well and I've never ridden anything else on the trails. I am fortunate enough to be able to afford any bike and that is part of the problem. I feel that I need to put myself through the ringer to earn the nicer bikes. I am an indecisive and frugal person. You should see me picking out a new deodorant. My wife hates shopping with me. This may sound like some stupid artificial constraint, but I think I'll ride the Rockhopper for 1,000 more miles to prove to myself and then purchase a nice FS ride when I hit that milestone.
  5. I'm new to MTB and am already addicted. My first bike is a Specialized Rockhopper. I've ridden it 450 miles so far and I like it a lot even though it's entry level. I am trying to avoid upgrade-itis but I often consider the following 3 options: Upgrade the Rockhopper. I've looked at a new fork, a dropper, and going 1x. However, most things I read online advise against upgrading such a cheap bike. Buy a nicer hardtail like a Trek Roscoe 8 that caught my eye the last time I was in the shop. The nicer components (fork, dropper, 1x) come with the bike. Buy a full suspension. It seems like everyone else has this. The problem is.. which one. It's hard to fathom spending so much money on a bicycle. Before I bought mine, I thought $700 was a lot...ohh how naive I was. No matter what, I am riding the Rockhopper until the end of the year and possibly into next year. Until then, I've set in my head that I will not upgrade anything unless it breaks. What do you guys think of my rambling?
  6. Update: Before my ride today I removed the seat post, spread the grease around a bit, put it back on, and hit the trail. No noise! I’m glad I asked you guys first.
  7. Haven't take it in yet. I'm a bit embarrassed to take it in and say "It makes a lot of noise on the trail... but not right here on flat ground, just trust me though!" I'll take it in some day this week though and will keep you guys updated.
  8. BSS gave me a free safety check and a free annual cleaning and tune up coupon. I have used the safety check already. I was going to save the other coupon until next year. I will see what they say though. Yup these are square. Damn smart how'd you know? I store it in a covered entryway. It hasn't been exposed.
  9. I live in Muir Lake apartments up in Cedar Park...right by the YMCA brushy creek trail entrance.
  10. Well I failed pretty early so looks like I'm in the "try to fix it, fail, then pay someone else" camp. I didn't even manage to get the crank arms off. My crank arms only have 1 bolt, not a pinch bolt. I started trying to remove the non-drive side. The arm would not come off even after some frustrated hammering kicking jiggling and wiggling on my part. Guess I'll take it back to Bicycle Sport Shop since I bought it there and see if they will take a look at it before charging me $50. I want to support my local bike shop but it's painful to pay $50 for a diagnosis of some noise.
  11. My bike is a 3 month old Rockhopper Comp. I am getting a lot of creaky and cracky noise from my bottom bracket as I pedal, especially when I have to pedal hard. I think that's the source anyway. It's distracting me a lot during rides. I can't easily ignore it. What can I do? I currently don't have the proper tools to remove the bottom bracket. I would buy them if the price was decent but I could not find the right tool(s) for my bike. Update: Before my ride today I removed the seat post, spread the grease around a bit, put it back on, and hit the trail. No noise! I’m glad I asked you guys first.
  12. Is anywhere ridable? It’s so nice out!
  13. After 5pm on weekdays and anytime weekends.
  14. I'm a newb on a Specialized Rockhopper. I ride Brushy Creek daily. I would love to meet some people to learn from and try to keep up with. I live right across the road from the Twin Lakes YMCA so I can hop on the trails fast. I have been riding Peddler's Pass and Mulligan a lot since I started in July. I'm trying to build up to riding the more difficult trails. I haven't made any mountain biking friends yet and my coworkers are sick of hearing about my fun, so let's ride together. Teach me some stuff!
