  3. Thanks for your help. If only every person who ever had mud on their tires came out and did trail maintenance.
  4. It's going to rain this weekend. The soils are already damp and the trails are going to be muddy as soon as it rains. DON'T RIDE MUDDY TRAILS! HELP FIX THEM INSTEAD:
  5. Many areas such as Point Six and parts of the Log Loops are simply too flat for good drainage. As the trails compact from use, they inevitably become the lowest point, hold water, and become persistently muddy. The remedy is to create artificial highs and lows so the trail is no longer the lowest point.
  6. Also note that there are many spots that used to stay muddy for extended periods that no longer stay muddy. Tangle of Trails and Windy Loop dry quickly now thanks to the ARR Trail Crew's drainage improvements. Trails will probably be too muddy Saturday and Sunday. Come out Sunday and help the Trail Crew make the trails drain better:
  7. Be aware of muddy spots near the Rock Bridge, Point Six and the Inner Log Loop.
  8. It's My Park Day November 3: https://austinparks.givepulse.com/event/87374-Build-a-New-Trail-at-Country-Club-Creek-Greenbelt
  9. On September 23, the flow of Walnut Creek peaked at 3400 cfs eary that morning. Last night the creek crested at 275 cfs. Nothing to get excited about. I am certain the rock armoring held up. Already down to about 50 cfs now.
  10. So you ARE NOT riding tomorrow. So, help the trails out. Conditions will be such that drainage issues will be quite obvious! 🙂 We REALLY, REALLY would love to have you and ten or your best friends join the ARR Trail Crew at WC Tuesday. We need ALL of YOU to help. With the rains we have been getting, the trails need lot's of attention to properly drain.:
  11. Thanks for the report. It would be great if you and anyone else familiar with the problem areas could join ARR Trail Crew at WC Tuesday. We need YOUR help. With the rains we have been getting, the trails need lot's of attention to properly drain.:

  14. Hope you got your rides in tonight, 'cause Walnut is likely to be a muddy mess again for a couple days. Heavy rains heading that way now.
  15. The section by the Maintenance Yard fence is no longer muddy thanks to volunteers with the ARR Trail Crew.
  16. We will be back out Thursday at 4pm. You, or anyone else, is welcome to contact me so we can set up a trail project date/time that works for you. I can accommodate almost any schedule with adequate lead time.
  17. Thanks for leading the charge! Yes, much progress made. With a few more similar efforts, we could have something to ride out there fairly soon.
  18. It's finally cooler and the trails are too wet to ride. Time to put in some much needed maintenance into the trails. Damp soils mean good conditions for pulling out invasive trees and shaping dirt for both good trail drainage and some nice smooth berms. Stay tuned to The Austin Ridge Riders Mountain Bike Club for many opportunities to give the trails some love 😘
  19. Rode at 4 pm and it was pretty much as Albert described. Some fairly large muddy spots along the way. Rained later in the evening. I hiked the trail after that and it was muddier. It should be too muddy to ride in the morning. With any more rain Saturday, it will be toase tor the whole weekend.
  20. Needing Paydirt or otherwise interested in helping keep the trails at Walnut Creek enjoyable, well drained and in great shape? Let me know. With the recent rain and cooler weather, I plan to get out there regularly. Once or twice a week if there is interest. Also, if you are interested in serving as Trail Steward for Walnut Creek or any other ARR maintained trail, let us know. Thanks Charlie Rou, ARR President arrprez@austinridgeriders.com Google Account
  21. Planning to ride today at 4 pm. Join me if you like.
  22. How was it? I am planning to get out there at about 4 pm. If anyone wants to join me, please do.
