  1. I avoid crowded trails, but still ride a lot and can't avoid very brief close contact. I am not comfortable following people though. With the heavy breathing and extended exposure, no way I would ride in the back of a long line on singetrack. Just my thoughts of course, but whatever we are doing as a collective society clearly isn't working very well (if you believe the news).

  2. Barry nailed it. I may park over on the Stillhouse Park side next time but I am less sure of the parking situation when the park is closed. Looks pretty limited using Street View. It would shave about 10 minutes driving each way for me though. Ideally I would park somewhere in the middle as I typically only carry 1 water bottle but it looks to be all private residential.

Can you pinpoint where this un-rideable trail is?  I've been riding the Bull Creek greenbelt and surrounding trails since 1992 and would love to see some new-to-me trail!

Please use pms. The vast majority of that is private property and/or unauthorized. And you can't ride far without crossing multiple property lines so no one person or entity has any real say. Treat it like you want it to be there in a year or 5 and maybe it will be.

  4. Check MTB project - https://www.mtbproject.com/directory/8019978/dripping-springs-ranch if you haven't already.

    This is a great resource.

Not sure these trail questions really belong in the 'Destinations' forum though in my opinion. Maybe use the general forum. I hope you read my post/thread about BLORA/Miller Springs in my reply to your first post. I was just at both a few weeks ago so can answer any more questions you may have (see the linked thread below).

Hi bikers, I am new to the site, had a question that didn't seem to warrant a new thread so I piled onto this one.  Just got back into riding after 20 yrs with a new bike with all the trimmings (pads, gloves, etc).  I was wondering if anyone could advise on trails/riding experience on Miller Springs Nature Center (Temple) and the Fort Hood trails (BLORA).  Since I am getting back into this, I am not ready yet for black or black diamonds, mostly green-ish, greenish-blue and blue.  Spider mtn is on my radar but not yet.

    Thanks,  Rider side up.

I was just out there a few weeks ago. Not worth the drive in my opinion, but ok if you are in the area.

I have a redneck buddy that likes to throttle his diesel and blanket black smoke on Roadies... I call him out for being an assshole but he finds it Amusing and just chuckles to himself

That kind of chit will catch up to your azz.

Though I did a 27 mile sock ride yesterday.  Started dry and cloudy upper 60's.  I thought we'd get drizzle.  I didn't expect a downpour.  I was not wearing the right glove and needed a base layer.  Was supposed to be 60+ miles ride.  It was an interesting ride home, riding down Adirondack amid white waters, taking shelter at First Honda, annoyed at how noisy these Shimano brakes are when wet. It was an adventure and that was awesome for me.

Nice! Very ballsy. I was just happy to get in a walk around the 'hood. I had ridden 9 days in a row, so I am fine chilling a couple days.

We've been out on the trails all year.

HA! Me too. Not trying to go back down that rabbit hole with you. I was referring to the people that came out of the woodwork and bought a bike or started walking around the trails out of covid boredom and have no sense of muddy trails, how to know if/when they are dry, and/or don't give a crap.

Will be wet and a bit cool, but the sun is supposed to be shining!

What is scary is the amount of 'covid' riders and hikers that will be out on ALL the trails once the sun is out, even though most stuff will be muddy AF. Hikers seem to be especially bad lately, it doesn't jack the trails as bad as tires but still isn't good especially when they go around muddy spots.

Ha, no, sorry. Just a joke about derailing the thread 😄

30 miles is a spectacular ride at Blie! Blue is a bicycle playground the type of which I haven't seen equaled outside of Hartman Rocks. We'll see if I change my mind when I make it to Sedona. Blue's standout trails are My Favorite Trail, Monster, and the rarely ridden by anyone, (because hard) Debacle. Blue has nice knee to hip level doable tech, punctuated by huge and optional steep rock rollers. I just love the place.

Looks like I hit Monster both directions but missed the other 2. I was just exploring solo with a paper map in hand. I will try to make it back up that way sometime, with the intention to end up in VT for a few days as well (some excellent riding up there of course).

Blue Mountain Reservation (in Peekskill) is one of my favorite places anywhere to ride a bicycle.

Derail is my favorite kind of rail.

Glad to hear this! I have only ridden 1 trail in NY and it was Blue Mountain/Depew back in 2016. Looks like I missed quite a bit of trail even in 30 miles but remember it being awesome. Is Derail a trail in that park?
