Pretty sure Eric (Rugger) had a rant against these log piles. He may be disassembling them.

I would like to be educated as to the reason for that.  These are not piles, but rather just sticks laid out in the mud (no rocks in the area).

This is before someone went and finished the job:

People that design helmet lights must not ride mountain bikes. Or maybe they only ride in the desert where there are no trees.

How many times have all of us scraped the top of our helmet on a limb? Probably happens even more at night because you can't perfectly see the trees in the dark.

That's why I zip tied NiteRider handlebar mounts next to my ears and hang lights there. I have yet to snapped my neck back from catching a branch with a top mounted light!

I put my ay-up forward so it's not at the highest point in the helmet.  It's also a fairly low-profile light which helps.  I do like the idea of dual lights on either side of the helmet.  How do you aim them?

Also, if you have what are supposed to be quality cold weather gloves, but your hands are still cold, make sure your wrists are warm.  If you're wearing thin sleeves or a vest, your hands might not be getting blood warm enough to keep your hands warm.

Also, keep your core warm and make sure the gloves are not too tight (have some iP cold weather gloves that constrict flow).  Your hands should get warm blood.  If your core is cold it will be really hard to keep feet and hands warm.

Whoever made the current cedar log path through the Hogjaw swamp area, thank you!

That spot was always a mess even if it hadn't rained in weeks. Much, much better with the log trail!

(THE) George and I started it impromptu but was really happy to see others were inspired and finished what we couldn’t.  We need to do this in a few more spots on the boat trails area.

BUT a 10-ft-width just doesn't cut it for the amount of traffic these types of trails receive these days.

I think it's adequate assuming people aren't trying to time-trial and can wait to pass people or give them a friendly "passing on your left".  There's sometimes an issue with walkers walking 3-5 across at Brushy Creek but that's just people being a-holes as expected.

The Barton Creek CC area has a nice population. A special tree that’s almost impossible to reproduce commercially. We’re lucky to ride up on them.

Though we don’t have any on our property there are quite a few of them near our house west of Dripping Springs.  We have a neighbor who has been growing them from seed for a number of years to sell.  As dry as this year has been I was surprised that they flowered and produce fruit this Fall.

I was reading about this.  Apparently the often quoted research regarding how hard it is to germinate is b/c they may have used old seeds.  It seems the key is very fresh seeds.

    The Black Bibs.

I need to try them. I bought I think primal bibs (I like their jersey fit, so I thought it would apply to bibs and I was so wrong, I hate their bibs for multiple reasons).  I'm really liking the Boure bibs (somehow tied to Ned Overend). They are more old-school with a thin chamois and they will customize your bibs...I just ordered I think the wrong base-size.

  8. LG are my favorite bibs, but honestly the fit can make a huge difference depending on your body type (leg size, gut size, femur length, hip/butt size, etc.).  My favorite shorts were some super cheap and very thin chamois from bike nashbar.  The thicker pads are hit or miss and some may actually cause more problems than prevent them (numbness down there, etc.)

There were actually a couple of riders out today. It couldn't have been much fun and I'll bet their drivetrains didn't appreciate it.

RHR is a trail that punishes those that dare ride when they shouldn't be which is cool IMO.  I've had to replace the whole brand new driveline after a 24hr race when conditions were bad.

I did 4 laps (Dragon Slayer make-up ride) at LGT yesterday, and when I just saw this picture, it gave me legit PTSD!   I glance at it and my body physically tightened up and I winced with an added seasoning of gentle discussed.

Nice photo though, thanks for sharing.

That's more than DragonSlayer!  Nice going!
