Anyone running bigger tires on a 29er? I’ve been running 2.3s on 30mm rims but am curious about going up to a 2.5 or 2.6. I’m considering an Assegai up front to replace a worn DHF but don’t want to add too much rotational weight.

Yes. Admittedly not a bike snob, and not all that weight conscious. But I ride hard and ride a lot, and love rolling 29+.

There is a new wood feature on the left of that wooden jump though right? I saw something there a few days ago.

Yeah, there's a new wood launch/table, but it's on the next little hump after the photoshopped hump.

Your photoshop skills need some work.

Haha, good catch. I was about to reply that I rode through there this morning and didn't see that at all. Cuz it wasn't there, lol.

That drop line to the right after this looks like it's gonna be cool. And I didn't end up in the trees either 🙂

Yup. There's a drop at Christchurch that's about half the size of the big snail one. I'd imagine that's the one to conquer and session before attempting the big snail one.

Funny. I haven't hit either of these yet either, but I've been working up the guts to give it a shot. The snail one seems like a better start to me for some reason. Seems like the landing is more gradual at snail, the church drop almost looked flat.

Lately I've transitioned over to using a OneUp EDC pump attached to the bike.  It lacks the gauge and hose but has the Co2 adapter and  holds the EDC tool and a Co2 cartridge.  I like it because it means less in my pack but unfortunately it's not cheap at ~100 for the pump and EDC tool.

+1. I've been using this for about a year now. I've got the multi tool, plugs, and patches all stored inside. Strap a tube to the frame and you've got everything you need in one hand package.

No. I'm a low intermediate rider and I'll run through them if I'm riding through the area but they are pretty boring and very short. Unless I'm missing some. Across BCRT from Champion, right?

Sounds like you're missing some. Gumdrop, snow white, gnargasm, caddy shack are all across the creek, not just across the BCRT. Go over the footbridge just east of champion, trail goes east and west from there.

I definitely think they are worth it.

+1. Especially as part of a longer ride including Suburban Ninja! And the techy bit of trail at the far east end of Gumdrop is some of my favorite "tech flow" out there once you're able to ride it clean.

Landing and approach are not done. But I hit it about 5 times to test alignment and pitch without issue. It just needs a light rake...ran out of time. It should be done done by tomorrow evening if I get free time tomorrow.

Hit it this morning, nice and mellow, not sketchy at all. Nice work!

Absolutely 100% FAKE NEWS. Funny, the "today" part too.

I met with the county this week (y'day). No existing official trail segment is going to be closed.

This is not supposed to be public news yet, but obviously rumors have started.

5.0 or Up and Over, the short segment that connects Double Down to The Rim via the high ridge is planned to be closed (again). the trail segment has been officially closed since the trail become legit. This segment was closed right away and we maintained the closure for the first year and then just let it be. The county didn't care until the Commissioner received a complaint.

PLEASE be patient and wait for an OFFICIAL Announcement before you contact the county commissioner...I mean, assuming you want to.

ARR will be working with the county to enforce this closure and we understand it's out of the Parks and Rec hands, but a decision made by the Commissioner's Court.

Sad to hear this, but I'll respect the closure. I've kinda known that that trail wasn't ever made official, but I always wondered why... any chance you could satisfy my curiosity with an explanation of the county's logic in approving everything but that one section of trail?

  10. I've been watching this thing evolve over the past couple weeks. It was rideable for a little bit, with the correct line choice it was sort of a double drop, with neither being too big, but still plenty sketchy. Now it's gone full send, lol.

It looks like there's some lumber nearby, I'm guessing there's gonna be some sort of wooden roll or landing?

I'm also on a KM. I am lighter but using narrower rims at considerably higher pressure. I have not dented a rim lately, but hearing the pings is getting old. I've gotten a few flats that way, and I have not had a tube in my tires for over 8 years.

How old's your KM? If it's old enough to run 135/100QR, I've got a wide wheelset you could borrow or buy for cheap. They're a little beat up, but good enough to see if you like it.

    Who is using Nukeproof ARD?

I need a solution: 25mm internal rims, 29x2.4 tires, 160 pound rider on hardtail. I need to run 28-30 psi (checked using an Accu-Gauge) to keep from pinging my rims. on SATN stuff, no less.

What's a better investment: wider rim (I build my own wheels) or inserts?

(Very, very skeptical about CushCore. $150 for two foam rings seems like a scam.)

    Here's my old setup:

    Rider: 190lbs
    Rims: 35mm internal
    Tires: 29x2.4
    Pressure: ~22 front, 25 rear
    Bike: Steel hardtail (Karate Monkey)
Riding: Pretty much anything. no huge hucks or anything, but lots of chunk (3lap dragonslayer, double down at brushy), and moderate drops (2-3 ft)

Loved the setup. I rode the same bike on mellower terrain (midwest) for about a year with narrow rims, and the wide rims made a noticeable difference in stability, comfort, and grip.

Never tried inserts, so I can't compare 🙂

Up until the last couple of years, I wasn't aware of the "Right to Roam" law in many parts of Europe (and others?).

As a land owner, I'm sure it's not a popular topic, but as a MTB rider, I think it's fantastic 🙂

I experienced it on a trip to England one time. I was on a work trip, and the company I was visiting had some guys who ride, so they took me out. We did a 10-20 mile ride from village to village, weaving around through dirt roads, paths through fields and sheep pastures,, etc. A lot of the fences between property had steps over them where the paths crossed. The coolest were the old stone fences, with steps built right in via stones turned sideways and sticking out. Throw your bike over your shoulder, climb over, and you were on your way :).

I remember thinking how cool it was to be able to ride to the next town over, stop at a pub, and ride back without spending much time at all on the road. Especially for a country with European population density.

Amazon is having a decent sale on the NR Lumina 1100 Boost. I have the 950 version myself and like it alot. On dawn/dusk rides it's my only night, on full night rides its my secondary (helmet light).

That's a good deal on a great little light.

Pretty sure I've still got the rigid post that came on my stache... I'll have a look tomorrow and let you know!

Found it, but it's only 350mm length. Let me know if you still want it, but I'm guessing it won't work for you, sorry!IMG_20191104_083554491.thumb.jpg.aa1e0a17f9fc1f782e42ef20f77d52c3.jpg

Anyone out there have a 31.6 rigid seat post that is 400mm long (preferably in setback).  I'm willing to pay, but I'm looking for a cheapo to run until I can source a quality replacement for the one that I broke.

    Please, please, please,

Indeed! I've been eyeing a Brushy/SN/ChristChurch/Wilco/Behrens eveything loop for a few weeks. Think I'll stick it someplace between EB and DS. Hmmm, it's a little further, but if you really wanna get nuts, maybe consider Xtal Falls as well.

We should talk. I've been mapping out basically the same thing. Not sure when I'll get to do it, but there's potential for a pretty epic ride.

You're going to make more of those, right? Sign me up. I have a strap-on mount for my NiteRider and I hate how tall it is. I use a Livestrong bracelet instead.

It's a little tricky, since there's no adjustment. I had to print a couple before I got the beam in the right spot. If anyone else has a new model Fox Flux helmet, I'd be happy to give it a shot.

If you're into CAD/3D printing, I'll send you the file to tweak it and try it out.

  19. I've been running two niteriders for a while now. One on the helmet (950, narrow beam) and one on the bars (1200, wider beam). The weight on the helmet is borderline, but as long as the cinch dial is snug, it doesn't bother me too much. I also 3D printed a sexy mount for it, so it's lighter and not sticking up so high.

I really like the convenience of the all in one Luminas. I used to have lights with separate batteries, and there's just so much less to keep track of now 🙂

Although Tip has me thinking... might try to rig a side mount like that up someday. Looks pretty trick.
