  1. Got one of these for sale... Used but in perfect condition... $45... Like the one in the photos. I'll measure the width and let you know, but for sure it's for a larger size bed.
  2. Thanks, Albert. 18 miles and there was still so much more trail around that specific area (west and south west of Dick Nichols area) to ride. Some of my favorite SATN trail is directly west of Dick Nichols, on the west side of Beckett Road.
  3. Okay... Hopefully the Dynamic Duo have, ahh, done their thing and this thread can get back to the intended topic. So this is an article I read on the subject.. And it was pretty informative. Yet it ended with this conclusion... "How does all of this translate on the trail? Which gear ratio is best? There’s no way to answer this question without factoring in the rider and the kind of terrain that you typically ride in. Once you’ve understood the basic gear ratio calculations though, you’ll be able to work out which chainring size best suits your kind of riding." And for me... "...your kind of riding..." = Personal experience. Technical specifics are wonderful to have as a reference... But so is feedback from actual experience... Which is why online reviews are so important a resource these days. Here's the article... And keep in mind... It's not just related to my thoughts on component upgrades... There are many other riders who frequent this website (and I know I tell many about it) who may be considering the matter also... So don't let you thoughts about me stop you from helping the wider community on a whole. https://enduro-mtb.com/en/gear-ratios-mtb-drivetrain/
  4. This was stolen in the South Lamar area yesterday morning... Contact ‎Enrique Núñez de Urquidi‎ on Facebook if seen. He posted this on the Austin Mountain Biking FB page.
  5. I can only shake my head in bemusement. Is it really possible... Can someone really be so dense. Nah... It's gotta be an age thing.
  6. Oh... Okay. I understand. You two are a thing. Like Tweedledum and Tweedledee.
  7. Good for you old man. I respect that. Here's hoping ATXZJ doesn't think he needs to tell you that your sweet spot in 2004 too, and that you should stay there.
  8. But you've — to my knowledge — never actually met me, nor have you ever ridden with me, ATXZJ... So, like the old man, you're kind of inserting dishonesty in order to try and support your foolish speaking. And the moment someone has to resort to dishonesty exposes the poor foundation they are trying to stand on. This aggression you feel toward me is a result of my putting you in your place way back on MOJO... When you thought to try and inject yourself into a thread with some macho biker routine. Dude... Get past it already. Remember when I invited you to have a beer with me... I meant it. But you got all bitchy and pouty about me even suggesting it. Come on man... You're not a teenager... Conduct yourself according to the maturity of your age.
  9. There ya go... Perfect. Context... 20t cog. Further context according to what you feel is helpful... 29x2.4, 34t chainring. Honestly... All the crap two people thought to inject into this thread was only a result of pent up offended feeling issues they suffer from. Don't go down that useless road with them, mack_turtle.
  10. Thank you... But I really think, as I said... I was as clear as I needed to be... And it seems others... And even yourself... Were clear about that... Given your original response. Maybe you just get too drawn into the foolishness of others.
  11. How involved are you with someone when you don't "...ignore..." them, old man?
  12. per·turbed /pərˈtərbd/ adjective feeling anxiety or concern; unsettled.
  13. LOL... He is perturbed, isn't he. How... Ahhh... Sweet is that.
  14. Someone suggested that my "...sweet spot seems to be right around 2004-2005...", and that I should just "...Stay there....". And yet... Here I am... In 2019... Alive and kicking. I ride a 2007 Cannonade Prophet... That has a 2018 handlebar (760mm, no less), 2016 Race Face Atlas cranks, and soon, 2015 10-speed Shimano XT shifters/brakes... And a 1 x 10 drivetrain to go with the shifters. Possibly using a 2018 11 x 46 cassette, who knows. So what exactly does all this add up to? See, I also build what I guess some would refer to as "retro" (or old) bikes — using old bike frames and bike parts to build bikes that I can sell cheaply to folk who want to ride trails, but maybe can't afford even $300 for a bike (yes, I am one of those who thinks that trails should not be only for those who ride more expensive bikes). I also try to support The Yellowbike Project, which is certainly not so current in what they do... In the sense of the bikes/parts they use and sell... And even building bikes, which has been around for just over 200 years. So am I just stuck in some kind of past era? Is thinking to recycle stuff because I see current (as in 2019) value in it, just a 2004-2005 sweet-spot that I need to stay in? Is there nothing current about applying "...Reduce, Reuse, Recycle..." thinking/action? Is the US EPA sell phrase, old? Shoot... Did I just use an old phrase in saying "...sell phrase..."? But I digress... Back to MTBing sweet spot... What exactly is it? And if it is for some, "...right around 2004-2005..."... Should this be looked down upon by those whose sweet spot is shiny purple (or all black) 2018/19 $3,000+ bikes and the whizz-bang components that come on them?
  15. And to think... All this from a simple comment about a removable bicycle seat that I was thinking could have been designed with a little storage space. Makes you wonder about some folk.
  16. Now... This is what you call a perfect example of a straw man. And is what is typical of someone like the old man. When made to look, well, short... Folk like the old man turn to dishonesty in order to save face... Such as can be seen in his above quoted dishonest statement. See, I've never blamed anyone for people putting me on their ignore setting. People gotta do what people feel the need to do. But I fully understand the old man's desperation, and therefore need to be dishonest. I also fully understand that I'm just in his mind... Ignore list or no ignore list. :-)
  17. Oh look, ATXZJ... You got a thumbs-up from the old man. Yay, ATXZJ.
  18. I guess it was just too much to think you'd just not be an ass again. But you had a good run going there. Pity.
  19. When I was a kid I'd listen to short stories by folks like Hans Christian Andersen... On, of all things, LP (that's long play for those young folk) records. One of these stories was called "The Princess And The Pea" and was about a young princess who could not sleep well because of a little pea that had been placed under her mattress by a concerned mother of a prince who wanted to marry the princess. The mother wanted to test the princess to see if she really was a princess, as I guess a real princess could not sleep well with a pea underneath her mattress. This comment (the title of this thread), made on another thread, reminded of "The Princess And The Pea" story... And I wondered... No... Not how many princesses there are out there in mtb land... But experience others have had regarding "...preferred ratios..." changing with tire brand being used? And if the above is not enough context... How about when changing rim brand... And/or tube brand... And/or sealant brand... Brake disc brand... Or size... Spokes... Air pressure....??? And oh crap... What about tire wear... Does tire wear influence a change in "...preferred ratio..."? Now I'm totally screwed... Because I'm thinking the same principle can apply to seats... And chainring/cassette wear... I'm getting visions of Formula 1 type racing, where everything is so exact a science that the car is completely rebuilt after every race. Yikes! And here I've just been enjoying my riding all these years without giving a second thought to all this stuff. Anyone else totally thrown out of whack now?
  20. And... Maybe if you give other folks a chance, mack_turtle... To speak about their own experiences... Thoughts on these various influences will come out. And that is the context I stated in my very first comment. Tell me, mack_turtle... If you went to the beach and had a swim in the water... And I asked you how was your experience of it... Would you think to respond to me saying that I needed to state my question to you in more specific context... Including related things like temperature of the water, effects of currents, algae growth, types of fish, effect of beach erosion, and other such things?
  21. ATXZJ says... "i can only imagine how you "conducted market research" before the advent of the internet. god help those employees" LOL... From your own words it would seem that you're a bit lacking in understanding on the variety of ways market research was conducted "...before the advent of the internet...". But hey, that's okay. As for the rest of what you said... Perhaps you're also short on understanding regarding the relationship between personal experience and "...subjective...". But hey, that's okay too. Your lack of understanding issues aside... Again, thanks for the, ahh, basic advice.
