  1. This Sunday we are working on the trail at 1 pm. Myself and some others are guiding a Wounded Warrior Ride in the morning. (trail conditions permitting)
  2. I rode the trails this evening. Almost every trail at WC has at least one large muddy spot where your tires will pick up mud. Point Six has several. Both Log Loops have muddy areas. Mark's Art has water across every crossing. The damage has pretty much already been done to the muddy areas. They just need to be repaired, but there are so many that it will take time. If the ARR Trail Crew gets more volunteers to show up, that will help.

  4. Cullen scouted Point Six and Log Loops yesterday. Still very muddy.
  5. Will likely schedule another dig day for this Sunday. Who's IN?
  6. Yes, we also need trail stewards for a few trails.
  7. Thanks for not riding muddy trails. THANK YOU EVEN MORE FOR HELPING KEEP OUR TRAILS IN GOOD CONDITION:
  8. Make something positive out of the situation. ARR Trail Crew desperately needs your help:
  9. I talked to Paul before the ride. He scouted out the trails. as Clair had done, and modified the routes accordingly. There are trails at WC that do drain and dry out well (the ones that ARR built more recently for instance), but there are definitely problem areas that stay muddy for a long time after enough rain.
  10. There are little blue square stickers on the sign arrows that indicate a SUGGESTED route that will gibe you about 10 miles without repeat. PLEASE NOTE: ALL trails at WC are MULTI USE and TWO-WAY. Bikes yield to hikers. Be courteous to other trail users. Slow down and say hi to those you are passing. ALSO PLEASE NOTE: If ANY mud is sticking to your tires, conditions are too wet to ride and continuing to ride is doing damage to the trails. Please discontinue your ride. THANK YOU for not riding wet trails. It takes a lot of work to repair damage from trails being ridden when wet. DO NOT ride through OR around muddy spots. TURN AROUND and ride another day. The ARR Trail Crew is continuously working to make the trails drain better and be more fun to ride. Please take 3 hours to help out. Bring your riding buddies. We desperately need all the help we can get. We are very short of having the help we need. Come out next Sunday. Details and RSVP here:
  11. One would assume the buildings such as the nuke are secure enough from evil doers on foot or bike. Seems like the UT lawyers could come up with some wording for a sign such as "Enter at your own risk". Would be mighty neighborly of them to let us through.
  12. Seems like a bike/ped only gate would be a reasonable solution. Like at the Highland Park Baptist Quarry.
  13. The missing link to connect all this is a decent north/south route in the Pickle Research Campus and Domain area to connect the underpass of Mopac at the Railroad. A trail between the railroad and Pickle under Braker and between the railroad and the Domain would be ideal, but I am certain the issue is none of the 3 land owners (RR, Pickle, Domain) being keen on giving up any land for it.
  14. Everything will be muddy for a while. We could really use your help getting the trails at WC to drain better: Sunday! Sunday! Sunday! It will be too muddy to ride! Help the ARR Trail Crew improve drainage on the trails so they dry out quicker once it stops raining. We will do trail upkeep appropriate to conditions rain or shine:
  15. Should have fired up the phone camera. Would have been some choice UTubyness.
  16. Went to WC this morning to do some touch ups on drainage and berms and close off social paths that are trampling down plant life along the creek bottoms. A older woman who walks two dogs every day at WC, who simply complains every time I see her, verbally assaulted me for working to keep park users on established/official trails. Her tirade continued with all manner of nonsensical complaints. I won't get in to all of them as none of them had the least bit of merit. When she started hurling profanities at me I finally said I am done and walked away saying "Have a nice day". Other than that one interaction with an obviously irrational person, feedback from park users has been overwhelmingly positive. People regularly say "Thank You" and genuinely appreciate the volunteers who maintain our trails. Sometimes certain things need to be explained, such as why trees (invasive) are being killed, but they typically get it and appreciate the explanation.
  17. It may be a sunny day, but WC trails are still a muddy mess. Come out on the 28th and give them some much needed TLC.
  18. As of 12:30 pm today WC is still a muddy mess. The ARR Trail Crew was out there today working on drainage issues, but there is so much more to do. Come out on the 28th and give the trails tome much needed TLC
