  1. Honestly, those look really good.   I went over to that spot yesterday.  Only did the small one (My friend and I built the trail that leads to the small ramp).  Biggest thing I noticed is the faster I seemed to go the easier it was on me and my bike.  If you go a little quicker you don't have to pull up or anything.  Your speed looked good though.

I've watched countless videos and this is the best one I've seen.  Actually echoes what @olddbrider was saying above.

    Very good bike drop tutorial

Didn't even get close to the transition.  There are a couple bigger rocks on the way down that my front wheel caught on to prevent me from going over the bars and then I landed in front of the transition.  Again, still don't know how I didn't go over.

Wow, I can't even imagine the oh shit butt puckering factor there in that spot.

On Tuesday I did the Drama Drop on Snail for the first time....on accident.  I hadn't ridden Snail in over a month and just forgot which side the ramp was on.  Rolled up to it slowly, but not slow enough to stop.  Realized the ramp was on the left as I started going over the edge.  Somehow i just rolled down and stayed rubber side down.

On the bright side, I'm not as scared of the drop as I used to be!

Holy smokes.  Did you roll that drop?   Or did you make the transition.

$56 and have it tomorrow. Anyone doing their own wrenching really ought to have a decent one for the low torque range.

I ordered this one just because it was a little better rated, but thanks for the thoughts.

  5. So the torx bolts that attach the chain ring to the crank need 5-7nm, however the main 8MM hex bolt for the crank needs 54nm.

So basically I need the 1/4 inch small torque wrench and a bigger one for the big bolt.   Am I thinking about this right?

  6. From watching the videos.  I am most worried about how in the world to torque the torx bolts to only 5-7 newts.   The 3/8 torque wrench I bought today starts at 20.    The wrench will be fine for the 8mm main bolt, but I have no idea how to torque those little ones.

    pic not working (?)

lots of people on here can walk you through install. which crank?

I have a Sram SX Dub.   Sadly I can’t find a YouTube video that shows that specific crankset disassembly.   However.  I now own a torque wrench, torx bits and loc tite so the sky is the limit.  Lol.

Hopefully I install tomorrow or Friday.  Will definitely post pics.  The red metallic is beautiful.

Anybody have advice on whether it'll be dry enough to ride out there later this afternoon?  I know we had 10-15 minutes of rain yesterday afternoon at my house, but it sounds like the showers were pretty spotty...

I would be shocked if it is not ok.   I live nearby, it was super brief showers.

With that said, I wouldn't head that way to do the ramps.  I don't believe they finished the jump lines this weekend.  @El Gringo is the jump lines open?

I can personally attest that the new drop section is good 🙂   I built a line to the new smaller drops that is pretty cool.   Big thanks to 512 crew for building the smaller drop sections.  It's going to help a lot of people.

  9. Hey peeps.  I am working on building a new line that will flow into the smaller drop line.  I cleared most of the limbs and trees today but need help tomorrow bringing some dirt from down below to smooth out the line since beginners will be using this.   Would anyone be interested in meeting me around 9am on Sunday at the drop area?   My name is Bill.   Let me know if you are interested or just stop by.  Hoping it should only take two hours at most if I had a little help.   Hopefully less.

I've got 3 kids and we didn't use training wheels either.  I'd always said that training wheels were for the adults...they allow the adult to sit in their lawn chair while the kid pedals away (learning bad habits).  If there are no training wheels then the parent has to be DIRECTLY involved every time the kid wants to 'ride their bike'.  And truthfully, that can be a PIA being hunched over holding onto the back of the seat while shuffling down the driveway/street.  BUT....the kid will learn to ride pretty dang quickly.

All that said, the best way to go about it is with a balance bike (Stryder, etc.).  This allows you to sit in the lawn chain AND lets the kids learn proper balance and technique.

2 things in our family we were pretty un-traditionally hands-on for: 1) no training wheels   2) no swim floaty's ....you ride or die in my house!  LOL!

Absolutely plus one on both.   LOL.  Glad I wasn't the only one.   My son was riding his bike at a ridiculously young age.  Everyone at the park would start asking how in the world I taught him so young.   Find a nice grassy slope and let him go!

A McLeod is a hoe/rake combo and a Mattock is a type of pick axe. Grandpa was a farmer.

I just looked up both of those.  I have something similar all the Mattock is slightly bent from pulling out a tree stump.

@horncpaWhat tool(s) are you using for the ruts? I’d invest in a McLeod or mattock if you don’t have one already. Also, I’m out of town next week so I’m leaving you in charge of trail condition reporting lol

Well yesterday was a shovel 🙂   I'll have to look in to a McLeod or mattock.  I'll admit, I have no idea what those are.

I'd be happy to help on trail condition reporting.  Might just need to remind me.   C'mon good weather!!!

Thanks.  MTB has changed my life the last 6 months and the Brushy/Surburban Ninja trails are a large reason for that.  Just trying to give back.
