  1. Costco carries a brand; Gerry. They are tough, stretchy(but not too stretchy) and fairly light ~15-20 bux. I wear regular chamois with a respectable amount of padding under. I like my junk contained and some cush fer ma taint. Another option is to visit North Face and Columbia outlets clearance rack in the winter. Climbing apparel is very similar to riding...
  2. I appreciate the info I get here so I wanted to follow up with how this played out for whoever cares; I installed the new GX drivetrain on mt Jet9 with newly built 29" wheels with DT 350s. (i also upgraded the star ratchet rings on the hub "zzzzzzzz") Limited trail time but, so far so good. I also picked up a 12 speed Sunrace cassette for my old 27.5s wheels w/Deore hubs that allows me to hot-swap the wheels. The cassette works surprisingly well with the GX kit. A true "hot-swap" with no adjustments needed. Love it. This whole set-up will be shifted to my Fezzari deore when it comes in...some day. Thanks for the input on this thread Cheers
  3. Thanks Chief, I appreciate it. I circumvented the problem by moving up the purchase of a GX drivetrain. I was going to wait a couple months and purchase it when my Delano came in. New plan; install GX kit on my current ride and swap it over when the new bike comes. Sorry to be a pest. W
  4. Geeze, you guys are making me feel old 🙄 Getting old does suck but we can stand up in our climate controlled home, load up our over priced bikes head out to our public parks and play like children. We are lucky humans... Cue up some motivational sounds and start move'n
  5. I got the Blue comp Eagle (NX) build with the DVO Diamond D1 fork and Topaz T3 shock. I plan on swapping out the NX drivetrain for a GX with carbon cranks. I have a decent wheelset already so I will likely sell the WTBs that come with it... a little over 4K and I should have all the bike I need for years to come.
  6. Thanks Mack! Other than being 50 I don't really have a back "issue" as it were just a long life of hard work and play. I do find the FS has made me a little lazy when it comes to standing up out of the saddle. I appreciate you taking the time to lay this out though...interesting for sure.
  7. I moved here about 5 years ago with a Airborne Goblin HT (XC geo) and quickly decided to go full squish. I picked up an entry level Niner Jet 9 (130/120) after about a year riding places like Greenbelt, Flat Creek etc I changed the 29" wheels to 27.5 w/2.8 tires and the airspring in the Yari fork to make it 140mm making it more of a + trail bike. It's heavy and a bit clumsy with the 2.8s but I have rode it everywhere. With the exception of the low BB pedal strike thing, it works well. Last year, I demo'd a Yeti SB-100 up in Dallas...Wow! The XC geo made me feel a little exposed on steep drops but I reckon that thing could handle any trail around here. Nimble is the word that comes to mind... I just ordered a Fezzari Delano https://www.fezzari.com/delano (back to 29") It might be more travel than I need, I am about 170lbs, but it reports to be a fun, nimble, trail bike. I am keeping a 27.5/2.8 wheel set to give it a try but I suspect I will keep it on the 29s most of the time. All that being said, I see guys killing it on hard tails at most places and the XC guys at SATN fly. I do miss the light playfullness of a HT but my lower back says "NO" and I like the geometry of a trail bike over a XC 100mm option.
  8. I picked up a Specialized Diverge a couple years back to just to try and keep fit. I ended up really enjoying riding it. The 1x set up is perfect for the riding I do on it. I took it with me to Rotterdam and it was perfect for exploring Dutch countryside. I put the largest tires I could fit, 28mm I think. This really improved the comfort level. I rode a friends road bike and it was bone jarring...so different! If I rode somewhere with serious climbs I might rethink the drivetrain. I really like the look of the Niner RLT Steel. If I was in the market I would give it serious consideration. W
  9. Haha, I had to look up "hackneyed" ..."hack" makes more sense to me now🙄. That will work. I have 32 up front so the 10-48 makes sense with the limit screw, uhm.. hack. I am out of town till Tuesday. I will PM you to sort a convenient time n place for you. I will bring my box of removed parts and a little cash... Cheers
  10. Thanks for the links guys. Good deals to be sure but I am hoping for a great deal on a mostly worn out cassette. Any more than that and I will just ride what I got until my new bike shows up...although I would have to hide the wheels so I didn't have to look at them every trip through the garage 🙂 Throet; Clock material. That's what I'm talk'n about. 20-30 bux, ya know? I know I sound cheap but I just hemorrhaged thousands for a new bike and drivetrain. If I can't get free-cheap, I should just be patient. Andy at Galaxy (San Marcos) has one in stock for ~150. If I just can't wait...
  11. I am new here so if this request is in the wrong place please LMK. I am looking for a second hand 11 speed mtb cassette, 10-42 ish, with XD drive to use (buy) until my new bike gets in in a couple months. There must be some out there with everyone going to 12. Thanks in advance, W
  12. Thanks Chief, The Topaz T3 rear shock looks nice. I called up DVO and a tech (engineer?) answered the phone. He took the time to walk me through it. I feel like the support from them would be really top notch. W
  13. Hey Lemke, Do you happen to still have the 11 speed XD cassette you upgraded from? I will give you some $$ for it. I only need it for a couple months so, I don't want to buy a new one. To contribute to the thread; I looked pretty hard at the Ripmo... it looks nice. In the end I was hooked by the value of the Fezzari Delano Comp plus, i really want to try out the DVO suspension! I placed my order yesterday. When it gets here I will replace the NX drivetrain with GX/carbon crank set and replace the WTB wheels with the DT 350/Stans Flow wheels with XD driver I just laced up. I want to use the DT wheels on my current rig (Niner Jet 9 11 speed) until my Delano gets here. That's why I need your cassette 🙂 I could change the drive on the 350 but that cost too... Regardless, good luck with the RipMo! Sounds like a bad as bike! Thanks
