  1. Finally got around to trying the GD BIB. It is an age-stated, 13-yr Tennessee Whisky (100 proof) for under $50. I missed out on the batch distilled in 2005 (bottled in 2019) because by the time I sought it out, it was only available at around $100. Now the 2021 release is available in abundance at retail or near retail, with only minor tweaks according to their master distiller, Nicole Austin. Carries a fabulous nose, and delivers the kind of warmth you generally get only from higher-proof offerings, along with a really solid bourbon taste. Get it while you can!
  2. Winding down the work week with a Bucket Head / WT Rare Breed combo. Pairs quite nicely!
  3. I couldn't get past the first minute with this guy. Campbell is a good source of information, but I'm not drawing the same conclusions from his research that this guy is. For me it comes down to 1) believing that we are in fact dealing with a global pandemic, and 2) agreeing that attacking it head on is the best defense for the "greater good", while accepting some degree of risk in the process.
  4. We're going to go ahead and get boosted since we're no longer having any symptoms. Politics and profiteering aside, really just comes down to whether we believe the vaccine / booster affords us enhanced protection or not. Based on the available data and our own personal experiences, we believe that the vaccine / booster is still the best way forward. Getting my third Pfizer jab tomorrow at Randalls and will report back on any ill effects. Speaking of wellness, hoping to get out for a nice ride this afternoon. Been trapped up for far too long over the holidays!
  5. That's really unfortunate about your family member. I have a family member that is anti-vax and an ardent supporter of multiple conspiracy theories. He was down for 7 weeks with COVID, and even after seeing other vaccinated family members suffer only mild symptoms, he's still not a believer in the vaccine.
  6. And yet you were the only one confused, even after a second explanation from the author. The beauty of discussion threads is that the thread itself carries context that keeps the messaging clear. In a case like this, you would have had to intentionally ignore key context to misunderstand the meaning of the multiple messages. There are names for people who would do that just to make a grammatical point, and none of those names would likely have been part of Sister Anne Stephanie's vocabulary.
  7. You weren't hallucinating. I paid particular attention today, having recalled this post. There appear to be some remnants of the original barbed-wire fence in spots, but that section at the bottom of the short plunge that always left you wondering what if, is nothing but posts now. Hopefully nobody gets impaled on one of those.
  8. Curious how many folks who've been vaccinated / boosted succumbed to this latest wave of COVID? Our entire household is fully vaccinated but only my mother-in-law who is here visiting had been boosted. Anyway, our 25-yr old attended some sort of event, ended up getting COVID and passing it along to the rest of us. We all only experienced mild symptoms, including my mother-in-law who is high-risk. I'm scheduled to get my booster next week, but now I'm wondering if I should wait a while since I probably got an immunity boost from the COVID infection.
  9. I've only had one encounter with barbed wire. As a teen growing up in Akron, OH, we used to regularly sneak into concerts at Blossom Music Center. The place was surrounded by forest, and it was a simple matter of being willing to crawl through a ravine, select an opening into the venue, and quickly mingle into the crowd. Then one year they decided to erect a barbed wire fence around the entire perimeter. Determined not to be denied an opportunity to see Sha Na Na, we attempted to scale the fence. My buddies cleared it and dashed in, but I got hung up in the barbed wire at the top of the fence. As the cops rushed towards me, I leapt down to the ground, ripping a huge gash across my inner arm. Adding insult to injury, the cops maced me before recognizing the extent of my injury. Not sure what was worse, getting maced or seeing my parents faces when they picked me up at the Emergency Room after getting stitched up. Don't fence me out!
  10. Rode Snail, Rim, Picnic, 1/4, and DD. All good to go. Should be pure hero dirt tomorrow. Get out for that pre-yuletide ride!
  11. Sorry about that. I was responding directly to ATXZJ's comment about needing a minimum 76 STA on a FS bike. Joking aside, I was serious about the art of climbing and how with old-school geo it was essential to scoot forward in the saddle on long, sustained climbs. When I was racing XC on my Orbea Alma HT in the Cascades, some of those races started with a 5-mi or more climb. I'd find that forward position in the saddle where there was just enough weight on the rear-wheel to maximize traction, then bring my chest down and grind. Even being far forward on the saddle, it's actually not an uncomfortable position because your bike is pointing up and your pedals are supporting your weight. I think you will be just fine with 73.2 degree STA.
  12. Whatever happened to the art of just sliding your ass forward until the nose of the saddle is right up your taint? A little bob from the FS just makes it all the more rewarding! 🤣
  13. Not sure if you got everything you needed, but I have this GoPro handlebar mount and related accessories that I used only once. Free for the taking if needed.
  14. This thread needs to become a Ghost of Christmas Past!
  15. Oh geez .... this thread is falling into a Canyon! I'll rejoin after signs of a Rocky Mountain high!
  16. In terms of readily available whiskeys for everyday drinking, this is what I aim to keep in my cabinet at all times. Other selections will come and go, but I sincerely hope that these remain available. I've yet to try any Japanese whiskeys. Any opinions there?
  17. BTW, I too went to one of those doctors who used a scope to inject steroid, but for my knees. I was amazed at how clearly you could see the placement of the needle. However, the SOB was like 90 years old and his hand was shaking so bad I think he chipped away half of what was left of my patella. Damn that was painful!
