mack_turtle
Edit: for and a good deal on some TRP Slate T4 brakes! It was hard to find much of anything available new, actually. In some places your options are Acera or XTR. Edited August 16, 2020 by mack_turtle
mack_turtle
considering replacing just my caliper(s) if I can determine that will fix it, but I'll be damned. stuff is SOLD OUT everywhere.
ATXZJ
cheap brakes/parts here https://blueskycycling.com/collections/brakes-disc https://www.universalcycles.com/shopping/index.php?resultpage=4&category=13 for ballin on a budget Have tektro 285s on my DJ-ish bike with sintered pads and these little brakes actually stop really well and have surprisingly good lever feedback. They're certainly not saints but IMHO much better than the aivd stuff that it replaced. https://www.ebay.com/itm/TEKTRO-HD-M285-Hydraulic-Disc-Brake-Set-w-160mm-Rotor/333661433923?hash=item4dafc57043:g:d2kAAOSw0fdc2Ter https://forums.mtbr.com/brake-time/tektro-m285-these-brakes-great-1068824.html

I was thinking about the TRP Slate brakes, about $120 a set. I keep finding retailers that don't have them in stock though. all this drama makes me want to go back to mechanicals. BB7s needed to be fiddled with sometimes, but at least it was not so messy! Edited August 7, 2020 by mack_turtle

mack_turtle
Supposedly Shimano hydraulic brakes are not serviceable. I just successfully disassembled, cleaned, reassembled, and bled my caliper and and brake lever. the only thing that makes Shimano not serviceable is that Shimano refuses to sell parts for their hydraulic systems. If they sold replacement master cylinders (I am not going to gamble with sketchy stuff from AliExpress), my brakes would be good as new. so much for being and "environmentally conscious" company.
