Question about Boost and non-Boost components and fit...

Recommended Posts

Need a crankset and just realized that you've got to be careful when used on an older frame.

The Shimano XT M8000 comes in different chainline configurations... Does anyone know what the "B" at the en of the "M8000", as in "M8000B" means?

I guess it's "B" for Boost... But on the Shimano website I only see M8000B1 and M8000B2... But no "M8000B".

Is the "B" designation without the "1" or "2" just an older designation, or a different chainline?

Thanks for the help?

I gather that B is boost and the number after is is the number of chainrings. B1 is a single ring boost, B2 is a double ring boost, and the non-lettered 1 and 2 are narrower chainline single and doubles.

If you're buying for a bike that does not have boost spacing on the rear hub, stick to non-boost cranks.
