RidingAgain
Met someone who wants to get back into mtbing. He's 6'1", 210. There's a large Scott Genius 930 for sale that's a little over his budget, but it might be worth him checking out. Anyone know if a large would work for his height? I'm thinking that 6'1" is right in between a large and x-large, but this Scott has a fairly longer than standard top tube. Thanks for the help. Like this one... Seths Pool
someone 6' 1" will generally be fine on just about any large framed bike. he can always adjust the cockpit with stem length and saddle position, so I wouldn't worry much about it. what's the price and whats the budget? RidingAgain
Under $1,000... But this one is a little above. It's in excellent condition and I think it would be about as good a bike as he could get in that price range.
RidingAgain
BTW, I was asking because I also looked at a Pivot and the top tube is really quite short. Not sure if the Pivot frame design just requires a different style of riding, but it seems that you'd have to be in a very upright position. RidingAgain
There's also a Titus Motolite that I looked at. 2012 I think. But it has carbon fiber stays, and I know from experience that this can be a problem on older bikes.
mack_turtle
Links to geometry of each of the models he is considering? Effective top tube length can be a red herring. I look at reach and stack as well.
larlev
FWIW, I'm 6'1" 200 and ride large on pretty much everything. I looked at Scott's before buying stumpjumper. Definitely size large
